UK Scene #88

25 September 2003

Wrestling 101 UK Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

Trouble has come back, yes that’s right they let me back through customs after my trip to the states. So unfortunately you have to put up with me again instead of the brilliant Goldy who has been doing a marvelous job for the last two weeks putting me to shame. So I will try and do my best to make the transition as smooth as possible as I delve feet first back in to the UK Scene.

The news this week which has got me hyped the most was the news that one of my favourite US wrestlers EZ Money will be making his UK debut at FWA Hotwired on the 21st of September from the Broxbourne Civic Hall. He will be accompanied by in my opinion one of the nicest and funniest workers we have had working in the UK from the US that being Chris Hamrick. The only down side is that due to injury Jody Fleisch will not be able to compete in his match against Jack Xavier. So this leaves the card looking like this:

  • Flash Barker vs. James Tighe (#1 contenders tourney final)
  • Chris Hamrick vs. Jonny Storm
  • EZ Money vs. Jack Xavier
  • Alex Shane & Ulf Herman vs. The Family (Double barbed wire baseball bat match)

This card has got me hyped for Hotwired more than I am for Uprising II at the moment and I think they will have to go some, to better the card on paper so hopefully now the FWA can deliver like they usually do. Besides EZ Money UK debut the Storm/Hamrick bout looks set to be one hell of a grudge match as Hamrick battles to stop Storm using the XPW name to promote himself but Storm will be out to get the win so he doesn’t have to face Jody Fleisch which is part of the deal.

Now if this wasn’t enough from the FWA they have been enjoying one of the biggest media weeks they have had for sometime. Earlier in the week they featured on popular daytime TV program This Morning on ITV 1. This featured the likes of Nikita and Paul Travell putting on some display action in the FWA ring whilst the Showstealer was interviewed by Philip Schofiled who had the nerve to cut off the Showstealer now not many people are that brave.

To add to this FWA featured heavily in the launch this week for new Eidos video game “Backyard Wrestling don’t try this at home.” Once again the FWA put on some showcase matches in the FWA ring alongside doing interviews, meet and greets etc. So I feel this has been a very important week for the FWA and it is good to see them getting more and more mainstream attention.

As we are now in to September and going in to autumn although the weather is doing its best to try and keep us in a summer mood. This means children are back at school but more importantly means more live shows are happening around the country. This week the smaller feds have started announcing shows again like FCW and UKWA. This Saturday (13/9) sees FCW back at their regular stomping ground “The Mill” in Sedgley. Wrestlers on the event include Rob Hunter, Celt Kennedy, The Bouncer and more. It is not until the 26th of September though that we see UKWA back in action as they present a show at Lightwaves Leisure Centre in Wakefield. If there is some live wrestling near you coming up I strongly suggest getting down to see it.

This time of year also means that All Star start leaving the holiday camps and go back on the arena tours. The first tour has been billed as the Autumn Aggression Tour which sees them back at all the old haunts as well as for the first time in some years, back at the Southampton Guildhall. The tour will be going back more to the old style of All Star featuring more over the top rope rumbles but good news is that the American Dragon has extended his deal with Brian Dixon so will be competing in the upcoming events.

On a side note to All Star I must say big congratulations to Dean Allmark who you all might know as Dean “2xtreme” who recently got married to Brian Dixon’s daughter Letitia. A big congratulations to both of them and I hope they have many years of happiness together.

Speaking of more live Wrestling NWA-UK Hammerlock announced their 10th anniversary tour this week which is another milestone for the organisation. The tour throughout the November/December period will see them back at all their old stamping grounds with a busy schedule of events. Hopefully they will be as successful in their 10th year as they have been in their previous years.

I would like to thank everyone for their feedback to the interview I did with Baxter Burridge before I went on holiday. It was one of my favourite interviews I have done for the site and was definitely more in depth than most. I am at the moment trying to get my stone aged computer to work so I can get some pictures to go with the interview for those of you who are unfamiliar with him and his work.

Now I am going to leave you all now as I try and work out how I am going to afford to go to both FWA Uprising II and WWE Passport to Pain tour at the NEC in the same month. Who knows I may even add to that quandary and got to Hotwired as well. If anybody fancies a meet up at any of these events drop me a line and we will arrange something. I maybe a skint student now but it feels so good to be back in the chair again writing the UK Scene column.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
