UK Scene #90

Wrestling 101 UK Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

Welcome one and all to a very belated edition of the UK Scene this week. I apologize for the delay this week and if your weekend plans were completely messed up because of it I am truly sorry. Anyways less about you lot and more of what you came to read, the UK Scene column. This week brings news of a new promotion starting up, a promotion reforming its website as well as all the news doing the rounds including all the latest news on the run up to FWA British Uprising II.

I start this week on the news on the new promotion causing a stir which is being called X-Wrestling and it promises to bring the X-Factor to the UK. So far not many details have been announced but they are aiming to put on an event in the North East of England called “Revolution” in Spring 2004. They say the top names are ready to play so that could mean almost anyone so there will be no doubt be a lot of speculation in the upcoming months on what they plan to do and who they plan to bring over.

The wording they use links to many things like the X-Division in NWA:TNA, WCW where the big boys use to play and of course you could draw similarities if you wanted to between themselves and Wrestlexpress. If you want to find out more about them you can visit: www.xwrestling.co.uk although at the moment there isn’t much information on the site they say that will change in the upcoming weeks.

Doug Williams has been a busy man as of late on the “Gilde 2003” tour put on by EWP. He has been wrestling nearly every night over the last week. It has been very successful for him though as he is just about undefeated on the tour so it shows you how much he has come on and earned respect over the last few years to be put in such a position by EWP. Alongside Doug Williams representing the UK over there is Robbie Brookside, Drew McDonald, James Mason, and Thunder. The EWP is also currently like a reunion for foreign wrestlers who have worked in the UK the list includes Joe X. Legend, Cannonball Grizzly, Ulf Herman, Gangrel, American Dragon, Brody Steele and Ecki Eckstein who are on the current tour.

Now last week saw the latest FWA event in the run up to British Uprising II which was Hotwired from the Broxbourne Civic Hall. Now this event is traditionally used to set up the feuds and matches for the FWA’s biggest event of the year. This year though whilst they were doing that there were also some great matches to watch and it was a brilliant show in itself Uprising or no Uprising. The event saw the UK debut of EZ Money who a lot of people had been wanting for some time and to add to this the FWA brought back one of the most requested American stars who had worked previously for the FWA that was none other than Chris Hamrick.

This was no doubt a recipe for success and with all the news and rumors surrounding Jody Fleisch I think it was very important for the FWA to put on a solid show which they more than delivered on. In amongst all the excitement there was also one of the first in what promises to be a series in guest matches in which Jace the Ace and Lee Darren from Premier Promotions went at it one on one. This match got mixed reviews but I feel it was important for the FWA as they continue to try and give their fans something different every time and also to help bring the UK Scene together.

Garage Pro Wrestling seem to be going from strength to strength at the moment as they get ready to put on their third show and this time it is in association with Summers Productions so the future is looking bright so it seems for Lee and his Garage crew. The show entitled “Nemesis” is taking place on November 2nd from the Royal British Legion on Leigh, Lancaster. The show will feature stars of British Wrestling alongside up and coming guys and girls from the gym. Putting a unique touch to the event will be the Gargetron which is an impressive 8ft tall, will play entrance videos, backstage promos and build up to matches.

Sheffield based Elite Pro Wrestling have recently had a major re-launch of their website to coincide with the crowning of its first tag team and middleweight champions. The site is fully interactive and invites fans to write show reports and upload photos to its gallery I am also told that an online forum is also on the way. From the site you will also be able to keep up to date with the latest goings on, storylines, results and characters. This is another major step for a promotion which uses it shows to promote wrestlers who train at their facilities. To visit the site go to: www.eliteprowrestling.co.uk

Revolution Pro Wrestling are set to open a new training school to accompany its current facilities in Nottingham. The venue for the school is going to be the London Martial Arts Centre in Enfield. It will sun every Sunday starting from the 19th of October and will be lead by Jorge Costano. For more information about this school please phone: 0208 524 7801 or 07940 476612. or email: londontraining@revolutionbritishwrestling.co.uk

Finally this week it seems as if a fan has got that annoyed with the lack of wrestling in their area that they have decided to do something about it and start up a website to help federations publicize shows in their area. The fan who lives in East Anglia has started up www.easternwrestlingnews.cjb.net and it will be used as a place for promoters, wrestlers, fans etc. to put news up regarding wrestling in the area. So if you live in the area log on to the site and voice your support.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
