UK Scene #95

Wrestling 101 UK Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

Welcome one and all once again to another explosive edition of the UK Scene. Since my column last week all the huge site changes have taken place which look awesome and it is a big credit to Kam and I think all the millions of hours have been well spent in my opinion. We have lots of news to get through this week including yes you guessed it more news from X-Wrestling, Flash Barker relinquishing his title and much more besides.

First off I must apologize for a little mistake on the column last week for some reason without telling me my spell checker changed Mikey Whipwreck to Mikey Whiplash but it was indeed Whipwreck who appeared at British Uprising 2. Speaking of Mikey his actions at Uprising have caused a lot of discussion and controversy it was one of those situations where you had to be there to believe it. I think the flame thrower (where Paul Travell was set on fire) incident for good or bad will go down in FWA history.

So it looks like X-Wrestling are keen to get all the weekly headlines around the UK wrestling scene by them adding more foreign talent each week. This week Jasmin St. Clair, The Blue Meanie and Matt Striker have all been added to the card for their debut event entitled "Revolution" set to take place April 2004. This brings the number of foreign stars up to 10 if my maths serves me correctly making it the most heavily stacked card of foreign talent ever attempted by a UK promotion that is if the event goes ahead.

The thing scaring most people at the moment is that still no date and venue have been set for the event. Do the promotion themselves know and are keeping it quiet or do they not have anywhere confirmed yet? These questions and no doubt more will be answered in the upcoming weeks in the run up to December when they hope to have tickets on sale I believe. The only problem with ticket sales in December is that historically it is a bad month for live arena events and ticket sales due to Christmas being so close. Saying this though what an ideal Birthday present tickets to the event would be.

Following on from the news of the injury to Flash Barker, Phil this week made an appearance at the latest Premier Promotions event from Worthing to make an announcement. It was not an easy one he had to make as he had to drop the PWF heavyweight title due to not being able to compete for 6 months. Phil picked the injury up in September against Doug Williams in the Worthing Trophy. Phil though to his credit tried to work through the pain barrier working many important dates after he picked up the injury but in doing so has aggravated further. Our thoughts go out to Phil and everyone here at Wrestling101 wishes you a speedy recovery.

I had a very interesting chat this week with the powers that be in the FWA this week and I can tell you there are some very exciting plans in the work for the future of FWA. A lot of ideas are being bounced about and a few are very promising indeed. All I will say is if half the stuff comes off 2004 will be another big year for the FWA. I would advise you to keep up to date with all the FWA news to hear what these plans could involve.

Must give a big thumbs up to the boys at SCW this week for getting featured in the Daily Record newspaper. Their next big event is called "When Spirits Rise" and will take place on the 15th of November from the Couper Institute in Glasgow. Drew McDonald headlines the card against Eric Canyon and the event will feature the first ever Caledonian Skirmish. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

Everybody at Wrestling101 would like to send our thoughts out to RBW joint owner Gerry Norton who recently suffered a heart attack whilst abroad. He has been flown back home where he is said to be critical but stable at the time being. All get well messages can be emailed to: office@revolutionbritishwrestling.co.uk and they will be passed on.

Spanning from all the big news around and about the site this week I thought I would close the column this week by talking about what the changes mean to you the UK Scene fan. One thing myself and Kam wanted was more UK Coverage which is a situation I think we have very much in hand now with Wrestling 101.

We also have a UK Scene newsboard in place for those who just can't wait for my weekly column. If you have a story for the newsboard please email me through adam@wrestling101.com and I will do my best to get it up. The board can be viewed here.

On top of this we hope to bring in more UK Scene columnists, reviewers etc. So you don't have to put up with just me every week. Goldy has recently done an excellent review of FWA British Uprising 2 and I hope there will be much more from Goldy to come. To add to this I am in the process of organising a big name in the UK Scene business to do a regular column for the site so watch this space.

The site changes have also seen the birth of http://www.wrestlingdirectory.co.uk a brand new edition to Kam's family of sites. This is a brilliant tool for wrestling related sites to promote themselves and an excellent place for wrestling fans to go to in order to find web addresses of wrestling sites. If you are a UK Scene promotion, wrestler or related website go to the site and click on the add site button which will take you through how to get your web address on the site.

Finally the UK Scene forum is still at the same place at Talk Wrestling Online where all the interactive features of the site will be hosted (forums, chatrooms and games). The site though has also changed and looks very funky indeed. The good news though that it is so simple to navigate through the three sites even I managed it.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
