Welcome one and all once again to your weekly dose of UK scene news, reviews and opinions. It has been a quiet week on the news front but there has been lots of live action up and down the country this week to keep you all happy. This week I am going to talk about the big FWA weekend just gone, discuss some upcoming shows including Hostile Intent and Golden Harvest as well as speaking a bit on a promotion which has re-emerged over the last month. So please do sit back and enjoy.

So it’s with the FWA I start and their latest ground breaking weekend of action they put on last week. The weekend involved four shows in four nights for the FWA as they continued their comeback after the winter break. The busy schedule meant it gave the chance for some names that the FWA faithful may not be familiar with chance to shine. Damon Leigh, Spud and Murat Bhosphorus all grabbed their opportunity to impress with both hands, featuring on three out of the four cards.

Although the crowd size wasn’t anywhere near what was hoped for the first ever FWA Unsigned show it was a huge success in the ring. The show was being filmed for a new series to be screen on The Wrestling Channel so it was important that the show went well. The card featured talent from numerous promotions up and down the country and from what I have heard was a big success with some real stars for the future.

The weekend was of course capped off by the big event that of course being Crunch from the Civic hall in Broxbourne. In the main stories from the night Doug Williams held on to his FWA title beating D’Lo Brown two falls to one, Alex Shane won a battle in the war between himself and Jack Xavier, Hade Vansen was up to his usual tricks to keep hold of the All England belt and Jonny Storm made it two for two losses for our American counterparts as he beat Sonjay Dutt.

RBW this week announced ambitious plans to bring live wrestling back to the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton. You may remember from back in the World of Sport days this was a regular stop and this 2000 seater hall was jam packed to the rafters. When the TV cameras left this venue stopped being viable in the eyes of the promoters at the time so the venue lost its live wrestling well that is of course up until now. If my memory serves me correctly I believe it was the arena where Kendo Nagasaki unmasked just as British Wrestling on TV was coming to an end.

Many people have been quick to ask if they will be able to fill a 2000 capacity arena especially in the current climate and with no national media backing. I think it will be an impressive task if they pull it off but I do think it is a big step. Saying all this though I do like to see a traditional promotion going back to a historic venue and I really do hope the people get behind it, I just can’t wait to see the card.

GPW owner Lee Butler has been a busy man of as late after taking over the reigns of the Hostile Intent show originally promoted by ICW at short notice. In double quick time though he has managed to arrange a full 11 match card and is in the process of putting the finishing touches to the Fanslam arrangements. Tickets have been priced from £20 all the way down to £5 depending on where you sit and your age. To buy your tickets for the show which takes place on the 25th of April from the Darwin Centre ring 07816390257. The card currently shapes up like this:

  • Cam Knight V J C Thunder
  • Jorge Castano V X Dream
  • Battle Royal (winner takes on un-named opponent later in the show... wrestlers taking part to be announced soon)
  • T J Cain V Demo (submissions match)
  • Jonny Storm V Jorge Castano
  • Damon Leigh V Joey Hayes GPW (exhibition match)
  • MiddleMan Lee Butler V Spitfire Tony Warrior (british rules match, 2 falls, 2 submisions or a knock out to take the win)
  • Winner of Rumble V T.B.C
  • Jonny Storm V X Dream
  • Pippa V Shelby
  • B-Boy V Chris Hero (2 out of 3 falls match for the GPW International Championship)
  • Jonny Storm, Jorge Castano and X Dream will all be fighting it out to be the number 1 contender for the GPW International Championship.

Back when I started writing this column many moons ago there was a young promotion starting to get off the ground called Sovereign Championship Wrestling not to be confused with the SCW north of the border. Over the last 6 to 12 months they have been no where to be seen but that has all changed now as they are officially back in business. There comeback show on March 13th was a big success and they have another show lined up in the Midlands on the 18th of April.

Over the years some top British talent has come through its doors including the Coalminers, Andy Hogg, Jack Xavier and in the future the UK Pitbulls are coming back to do shows for SCW. Could 2004 be the year where they breed even more talent for the UK Scene the only way to find out is by going to one of their shows and to find out information on their shows log on to: http://www.SovereignWrestling.tk.

After weeks of waiting the big FCW Collision Course weekend is finally upon us. To mark this big weekend Jonny Storm is making his return to FCW to face off against Laken Xander on Saturday night (17/04) at the Haden Hill Leisure centre near Halesowen. Then Jonny will see the weekend out working for FCW by leading a training seminar on the Sunday from Thorns School and Community College.

Both events sound awesome and a real must for anyone in the area. The cost of the training session is £20 and you can get more information by emailing training@futurewrestling.co.uk. Or for last minute updates on the weekend’s events be sure to check out the FCW forum.

To finish off this week I will leave you with the full card for SCW latest show from Greenock town hall “Golden Harvest” which takes place this Saturday (17/04)

  • SCW Scottish Heavyweight Championship Match - Last Man Standing
'The Highlander From Hell' Drew McDonald (C) vs Conscience
  • Majik vs Sabotage
  • SCW King of Scotland Title:

  • Billy Grange vs Flight
  • Six Man Tag Team Action
Total Annihilation & Chris Charizma vs The Nattrass Boyz
  • The Lowlanders vs Karl Harker
  • Lance Thunder vs Ice XVII

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
