UK Scene #143

16 October 2004

Wrestling 101 UK Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

Welcome one and all to another review of the last 7 days in British Wrestling. Now the WWE are back in the states after a successful tour its now left for the UK promotions to once again take centre stage. After a hugely successful debut in August IWP have finally announced their much anticipated follow up show, WAW have been busy this week making some top matches for Battle of the Champions and feuds are hoting up in EWW. All of this and more to come as we delve in to this weeks edition.

Before I start this week I must do a shameless plug I will be featuring on BBC Radio 7 this weekend talking about the WWE and the UK wrestling scene so be sure to be listening in:

Saturday 16th October

The Big Toe Radio Show is a daily live magazine show for kids which goes out from 4 to 6pm on BBC7 - a new national digital radio station. Everyday we have kids in the studio and on the phone talking to guests about all kinds of subjects including sport, music, science and nature. This Saturday young wrestling fan Luc will be telling us about his experiences watching WWE and we'll be finding out a bit more about the (sport?) with wrestling expert Adam Sibley.

BBC 7 is available on:
D-A-B Digital Radio
Freeview channel 78
Digital Satellite channel 922
Digital cable: (Telewest Broadband channel 910/ ntl:home

Right now on to the news and yes you heard it right I was in America when International Wrestling Promotions (IWP) ran their first show but I am in the country for their 2nd.  The first show was a huge success drawing a thousand fans to the Vulcan Arena at KC Stadium in Hull where they will be returning to on November 6th for The Second Coming 300 tickets have already been sold for the event so it should hopefully be another strong crowd on hand to witness this event.

It has already been announced that Burchill will be defending his IWP championship on the line in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs but we still don’t know who will be crazy enough to step in to the ring with this monster. Also competing on the card will be Colt Cobaba continuing his UK tour along with UK Scene stars Sweet Saraya, 5 Star Flash, Mark Sloan, Stevie Knight and many more. For more information log on to IWPromotions.com.

WAW’s next big event Battle of the Champions is shaping up very nicely with another match lined up this week which will pit Ricky Knight against Zac Zodiac to determine who will be the number one contender to the WAW British championship. The match was signed by Knight and not by their commissioner as Knight sees Zodiac as an easy stepping stone so it will be interesting to see how the match goes and if there is an upset on the cards. These matches have already been announced:

  • WAW British Champion, "The Dark Angel", Ashe vs. Justin Starr
  • WAW Cruiserweight Champion "The Tattooed Warrior" Steve Quintain vs. "Gentleman" Jimmy Ocean
  • WAW Women's Champion Sweet Saraya vs. Klondyke Kate.
  • WAW Tag champions UK Pitbulls vs. Bash and Kraft

The event takes place this Saturday (16/10) from Lowestoft.

Now quickly sticking with WAW there is some good news for any of you like me that live in the south west as in 2005 WAW are going to be bringing some shows to us. WAW have already planned 10 south west events for 2005 including venues in Penzance, Plymouth and Exeter so it looks like we could be getting some regular wrestling action. WAW have been down our way before but not as much as they plan for 2005 which is a brave move for them considering their routes are further up the coast so must give them a big pat on the back for their plans in 2005.

Now things are really starting to heat up in EWW. After Fransisco Capone leaving the SINdicate their leader the Dominator has vowed to put him in hospital if he returns for New Revolution and has urged him to stay in TNA if he knows what is good for him. The Dominator has also announced in a statement that he has already replaced him with a new member to go alongside himself, Alex Shane, Thunder, Poision and Necrosis. With Francisco now being the EWW British Champion does he have the power to overcome these odds who knows all I know is that it will be very interesting if he decides to turn up for New Revolution.

The FWA had another big weekly news announcement this week. They announced that another US star would be coming to Uprising for a shot at the All England title. The identity of the star will be announced in the Daily star this Saturday (16/10) but after the FWA gave the hint that he has performed in the FWA before many fans have already started guessing. One more American that is confirmed is Colt Cobana who will be wrestling Dirk Feelgood in the first ever Uprising pre-show called Uproar. Uproar can be attended by Gold, Siler and bronze ticket holders with doors opening at 4:45pm.

I have saved the best for last though as this week it has been confirmed that The Wrestling Channel will be debuting a UK Round up show on November 19th. The show will include action from top UK promotions as well as matches from FWA unsigned. Any promotion interested in being on the show should email: [ukroundup@frontierwrestling.com].

I think this is brilliant news for the UK Scene and it will be awesome to finally be able to see some of the top UK matches from the last year. I can’t wait until November 19th.

Before I go just one last mention if you are in the Coventry area this Saturday (16/10) be sure to go and see MPW at the Centre AT7 on Bell Green road. It should be another awesome night of entertainment not to be missed.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley

ST: Do not talk to me about fake
By Saz on 6 January 2008
There’s a saying in wrestling. The person who says that wrestling is fake knows nothing about wrestling at all. Say fake to people like Chris Benoit whose “fake” concussions turned him insane, say fake to Sid whose leg broke in half after the merest of falls, say fake to every single wrestler who has been through agony [...]
ST: What does TV do for the UK Scene?
By Saz on 27 November 2007
Being a professional wrestler can be such an enjoyable experience, yet, sometimes such a frustrating one. There is that old school opinion that wrestling is built from respect and that your time and your actions deserve the opportunities that you get. I know my place in the scheme of things, I have my rung on the [...]
ST: Time to get the attitude right
By Saz on 22 September 2007
You know, when I came back from Spain, a few things dawned on me. The first being how stuck up our own arses we Brits are. Bear with me on this, I am going somewhere with this.

Howdo, Your friendly neighbourhood Saz here, coming to you live from Tarragona, that would be on the South coast of Spain for all you non geography types. Yup, ole Sazza is sitting here supping Cevesa enjoying the sand, sea, sun, sangria and senoritas!
 ST: More wrestler ramblings
By Saz on 22 July 2007
I mentioned in the UK scene that I think that British wrestling is beginning to carve out a niche of its own, separate to the direct influence of the Americans. There will always be influence of course, that can’t be denied a good idea that works should always be used and the great thing about the [...]
