UK Scene #151

Welcome one and all back to the normality which is the UK Scene column. The party hats and streamers have been cleaned away from last weeks celebrations so it means it’s time to get back down to business with this weeks column. It’s getting even closer to Christmas so lots of promotions up and down the country are closing their doors for the holidays but there is still plenty going on to talk about and debate.

WAR got in the Christmas spirit last week by putting on one of their biggest shows to date “Twisted Xmas.” The show saw the invasion of FWA stars Alex Shane and Stixx who were to compete in the main event against now FWA regulars Spud and Ross Jordan. It’s really good to see the current talent sharing happening in the UK Scene at the moment and I for one hope that the FWA / WAR friendship continues in to 2005. Also on the show Rob Hunter won the Midlands title and in a moment of wrestling history WAR held the first ever Christmas present match which involved getting your opponents in a box, closing it and tying the bow. I would just like to say a big well done to WAR for putting on such a good show to put us in the festive mood.

WAR isn’t the only promotion putting on Christmas themed events this festive season. Last night (10/12/04) 3CW presented the “Fight before Christmas”, on the 17th of December NPWA bring us “Xtreme Xmas”, on the 19th FCW join the act with “Violent Night” and this Monday the 13th RAMWA present “Xmas Xtermination”. So there are plenty of shows to go and see to get yourself in the festive mood and to keep you busy during School and work holidays so be sure to get yourself to an event.

Following on from the very successful FWA online Radio, WAW has thrown their hat in the ring setting up their very own WAW radio station. The show will hosted by none other than WAW’s roaming reporter Mr. Twosheds himself Julian Radbourne. The show will feature interviews with all your favourite WAW stars including this week Ricky Knight and Sweet Saraya. The show will be run monthly and December’s is now available for download so go to WAWrestling.co.uk to check it out. Talking about Radio shows if you’re lucky there is a chance there may be a new wrestling radio show hitting the internet in the not so distant future, nothing is confirmed as of yet but test broadcasts sound very hopeful.

IPW:UK have announced this week that the Mexican luchadores who received a 10 minute standing ovation at show 2 will be invading the “Best of British 1” show on January the 23rd. To make the Mexicans feels at home IPW:UK are even flying in a Mexican wrestling referee so we can get the full Mexican experience without having to leave the country. The event also promises one hell of a main event with a best of British high flyers 5 way scramble rules match, so far only Spud has signed up to take the challenge but with the right guys in there the match has a lot of potential to be an early contender for 2005 match of the year.

It’s another big couple of days in the history of the FWA this weekend as British Uprising III gets its first airing on national TV this Sunday on The Wrestling Channel as this weeks Supercard. For all of those fans who have never seen a full event from the FWA and have just been catching their weekly TV shows it will be a real insight in to what the FWA can deliver at a live event. Those who were in attendance will be eagerly glued to the screen to see how the event came out on tape compared to the live experience and they can play the fun game of trying to spot themselves in the crowd. Hopefully by airing their biggest event so close after the event took place it will encourage more people to get themselves to a FWA live event in 2005.

Speaking of FWA live events this week they announced their provisional schedule for 2005. The schedule sees them once again kicking off another year with their annual “New Frontiers” show in February and then hitting the gas full steam as they roll on through the year. The main events FWA have confirmed so far for next year are New Frontiers, Crunch, Carpe Diem, Vendetta, Hotwired and Goldrush. On top of all this they will be touring the country with the FWA live events as well as being a force behind the big TWC supershow in March at the Coventry Skydome but it will be interesting to see if the FWA in their own right try the Skydome again as Alex Shane confirmed when promoting Uprising III he had built up long term deals with local media organisations so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was tried again.

Last week the UK Pitbulls flew the flag for Britain with pride in France as in front of 800 fans they became the first ever ICWA world tag team champions. They defeated successful European tag team from Holland the Van Kunders for the honour in Chalon-sur-Saône. With the UK Pitbulls already accepting bookings from all over the world in 2005 we could see these two teams cross paths again when the Pitbulls hit Holland which is one of their confirmed stops.

Doug Williams will be making his presence felt in RBW this weekend (11/12/04). Doug will compete in the British heavyweight championship tournament going against the Misfit Jorge Costano which should be a doozy and in the other tournament match happening on the card Stixx will be going against Ashe which should be a hotly contested encounter. The event take place in Finchley London with doors at 7:30 so well worth getting to for those two matches alone.

That’s it for this week folks hope you enjoyed things getting back to normal. Remember if you have a few spare minutes to make your opinion count in the Talk Wrestling Online Community Awards 2004.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
