Welcome one and all to a belated UK Scene column. With all the hype in the media this week about black Friday and Saturday who was I to disappoint so enjoyed the merriment that comes with the yearly tradition of staff Christmas parties. The news this week has been dominated by tickets going on sale and names announced for The Wrestling Channels supercard show in March. In other news this week some of our Brits have been looking forward to a quiet Christmas as they fly the flag for Britain abroad in January and WAW announce the formation of WAWW a separate women’s division that will be working under the WAW banner. So if you’re sober please read on and enjoy and if you’re not you may even enjoy it even more.

If you have been following this column over the last few weeks you will know I haven’t been a big fan of the upcoming TWC supershow but as the weeks are going on my opinion is changing slightly. Anything that can help bring money in to TWC and guarantee its future has to be seen as a good thing as without national media coverage at the moment TWC is so important to wrestling in the UK. I don’t see myself going to the show as am not a big fan of the US and Japanese scenes so much of the names and talent would be wasted on me but I do hope it attracts new fans to the wrestling world.

Since going on sale this week tickets have been selling well with all of the TWC websites allocation of gold, silver and bronze tickets being sold so they have a solid base to build off as they continue to promote and advertise the event in the months to come. The tickets coincided with the announcement of the first five stars that are confirmed for the event who were Raven, Doug Williams, Sonjay Dutt, AJ Styles and Petey Williams. Like I say some of these names are wasted on me but if they can bring in a few other stars like Raven who has been on British TV it will help ticket sales and with a new huge international name being announced this week that could be the case.

This week WAW has decided it’s time to start championing women’s wrestling in the UK and make it a big part of their promotions plans for 2005 with the formation of the WAWW division. Their plans are to shake up the current women’s scene in the UK to find a credible women champion and develop a national rankings system. The project is being spearheaded by one of the most dominant women ever in the UK that of course being Sweet Saraya. If this comes off as WAW hope I think this could be another stepping stone in the development of the UK Scene as good women’s wrestling on a national basis is something it has been lacking. I know it is doing well up north with the likes of IWF putting on ladies nights of wrestling but in the so called big promotions you are lucky to have more than one good female wrestler which leaves you in a position of not knowing what to do with them so if we can pull another demographic in to the UK scene I’m all for it.

Robbie Brookside will be headlining for NWF on January the 8th as he competes for the Eurostars European Championship against Erik Isaksen. FCW (the European version) have also announced their live dates for the first quarter of 2005 which will hopefully see more UK stars heading across to Holland and Belgium. In the past they have used the likes of Doug Williams, Jonny Storm, The UK Pitbulls and I believe the Dominator if I’m not mistaken.

Everyone at 101 would like to send out their best wishes to FWA favourite Andy Simmons this week as he continues to recover from a severe chest infection which took him out of the Gold Rush event. This news is unfortunate as it has meant Andy has had to come out with something that was quite personal to him that being that he has suffered from Cystic Fibrosis since birth. I’m sure he didn’t want the news to come out like this but everyone at 101 is behind 100% and can’t wait to see him back in the ring in 2005.

The interest in the column was that great that Simon Lilsboy down at the Sun decided to ask me to write a feature about the main arguments in his weekly column at the Sun Online. Just remember as the Band Aid single reinforces to give a thought to those less fortunate than ourselves at this time of year.
