UK Scene #155

16 January 2005

Wrestling 101 UK Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

Welcome one and all to another trip down the path of the UK wrestling scene, I hope this week finds all my lovely readers well and free of any ailments. Anyway less about your health as I have some issues to talk about this week. As the TWC supershow looms ever nearer more and more names are being announced but to the detriment of the TWC show these stars are now confirming bookings for other events around the country. So with my list of who you can see where and the rest of the UK scene news you come to expect please do read on.

TWC have this week announced that pro wrestling NOAH stars Mitsuharu Misawa, Yoshinari Ogawa and Kotaro Suzuki will be coming to the "International Showdown" in March. Now this is another history making move for the UK Scene as this is the first time that I can remember in recent history that three Japanese wrestlers will be appearing on one UK bill. Many fans have wanted this for some time and it is has been widely discussed on the Internet about how well they can draw so we are about to find out.

The TWC supershow will also go down in the history books for most possibly being the biggest budget show to hit our shores outside the international touring companies. I would dread to think how much this show is costing and we are still two months away from the show so there is a good likelihood that things could get even more expensive with more talent added. To keep up to date with the event TWC have set up a site specifically for the show: InternationalShowdown.com

The problems that TWC has now is because they can’t sign them to exclusive deals and the talent on the show wanting to make the most of their trip to England many of the stars featuring on the show are confirming bookings for other events around the country. Not all of the stars on TWC’s bill work for other promotions so if you want to see all the guys in the same place that show is your only hope but if you don’t want to travel you maybe in luck.

For those that live in Ireland IWW are holding its first annual supershow on the 20th of March in Dublin which will feature AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Sonjay Dutt, Jonny Storm and many other international superstars from “International showdown.”

Samoa Joe will be appearing for WZW in Middlesbrough on the 18th of March. Also on that day Christopher Daniels and Sonjay Dutt will be making their way to Walsall town hall to compete for FCW. On the 20th of March CM Punk will be competing for WAR. With these dates already announced and certainly more to come it looks like we are going to be invaded in March. If you’re a promoter and you have booked some of these stars on your show and I have neglected to mention it be sure to get in touch with me and I will get you featured.

One of my favourite up and coming promoters Daniel Edler is continuing to plug away with his IPW:UK promotion this week as he gears up for his next event. Undeterred from previous lower than expected crowds Daniel continues to believe in his ideas and his promotion as he brings us "Best of British 1" on January 23rd. He has in the past booked Americans for his show but after testing the water he is going in a new direction as it says in the show title. I haven’t looked forward to a match quite like the main event in some time as Spud, Aviv Maayan, Jonny Storm and two yet to be announced opponents are set to go at it in a 5 way elimination, scramble rules match. So this is event well worth getting to if you can make it.

The much anticipated WAWW looks set to start 2005 with a bang as the divisions involvement on WAW’s "Who dares wins II" show was announced this week. There is going to be a fatal four way match pitting the best women’s wrestlers in the UK against each other as Sweet Saraya battles with Jetta, Charisma and Destiny. The show takes place on March 19th from “The Talk” in Norwich.

I am starting to get a little concerned about EWW it has been a little while since they last put on a show and I can’t get on to their website at the moment. Has this legendary promotion been stopped again so short in to its comeback or is it me just jumping to conclusions? If you can shed any light on the matter please do email me to let me know what is happening so I can report back to the fans.

NCW are looking for your help this week. If you live in Reading, Southampton, Winchester, Bournemouth, Slough, Berkshire or Dagenham they want you to tell them about your area. So if you want a foot into the PR world and think you can advise NCW of local advertising avenues drop them a line by emailing [ncwuk@hotmail.com]

Before I go I must give huge praise to Goldy this week for bringing the most comprehensive UK wrestling news coverage I have ever seen in last weeks Talk Wrestling Online newsletter. This is definitely the place to go if you don’t want to miss any shred of information.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley

ST: Do not talk to me about fake
By Saz on 6 January 2008
There’s a saying in wrestling. The person who says that wrestling is fake knows nothing about wrestling at all. Say fake to people like Chris Benoit whose “fake” concussions turned him insane, say fake to Sid whose leg broke in half after the merest of falls, say fake to every single wrestler who has been through agony [...]
ST: What does TV do for the UK Scene?
By Saz on 27 November 2007
Being a professional wrestler can be such an enjoyable experience, yet, sometimes such a frustrating one. There is that old school opinion that wrestling is built from respect and that your time and your actions deserve the opportunities that you get. I know my place in the scheme of things, I have my rung on the [...]
ST: Time to get the attitude right
By Saz on 22 September 2007
You know, when I came back from Spain, a few things dawned on me. The first being how stuck up our own arses we Brits are. Bear with me on this, I am going somewhere with this.

Howdo, Your friendly neighbourhood Saz here, coming to you live from Tarragona, that would be on the South coast of Spain for all you non geography types. Yup, ole Sazza is sitting here supping Cevesa enjoying the sand, sea, sun, sangria and senoritas!
 ST: More wrestler ramblings
By Saz on 22 July 2007
I mentioned in the UK scene that I think that British wrestling is beginning to carve out a niche of its own, separate to the direct influence of the Americans. There will always be influence of course, that can’t be denied a good idea that works should always be used and the great thing about the [...]
