Well hello there and welcome to another rant, ramble call it what you may about the UK Scene. On the biggest sporting weekend in the United States which will see millions from around the world tuning in to the Superbowl. I’m going to be talking about the sport we fill our local village halls and social clubs for that being of course British Wrestling. News has been a bit thin on the ground this week but I will do my best to talk in depth about the news we do have.

This week one of my favourite wrestlers and a guy I think is much underrated Carl Mizzery returned to the promotion he started with K-Star. Carl left K-Star not on the best terms in 2003 and from then he started to take bookings with various UK promotions. In 2004 Carl took a break from wrestling and it was a big loss to the UK Scene but after talking to him in late 2004 he was in high spirits about returning even working on a new image and character for his return.

Now wrestling is a strange business but I for one couldn’t see him going back to K-Star. Once again though I have been proved wrong and I think it’s brilliant that both parties can put it all under the bridge and have continued where they left off as they did good business in the time Carl was with them. Hopefully Carl and the K-Star can use this to develop themselves and go on to even greater things.

Now there has been interest in Carl from many UK promotions including the FWA but for one reason or another things have never worked out which has blighted Carl’s career. Hopefully this will be the kick start Carl needs as he is still a very young wrestler with a big future ahead of himself. To see Carl’s debut back in K-Star you need to get to the Black Horse in Walsall on February 25th for Wrestlefest 3. With tickets only costing £5 its well worth the watch.

There is a north and south divide developing in All Star at the moment as Dave Taylor makes his intentions known before his upcoming return tour for Brian Dixon. For the last week a war of words has been developing between Scotland’s Drew McDonald and England’s blue blood Dave Taylor. The rivalry stems back from events that happened in Hannover, Germany last year but now national pride has been added to this already volatile situation.

Dave Taylor started his career 20 years ago for All Star and has since worked with WCW and the WWE and now has a home in America. Dave will be taking part in a three week tour this month which will no doubt see him take his feud with Drew McDonald up and down the UK.

In the last few weeks I have had my scouts out around the UK Scene. Some of my friends have been down to the new RBW training sessions in Exeter and I’m hearing good reports. Well done to RBW for coming to the south west where there is a huge void of live shows and training facilities. What is also good to see is the number of guest trainers who are making the long trek down to the West Country to help out the up and coming talent in the South West. Hopefully some day it may get popular enough so that you could have your own training facilities in Exeter and not just the leisure centre but for that to happen people have to get out there and support it.

FWA TV series 2 hit our screen this week on The Wrestling Channel. Many changes have been made to the format to make it a more magazine style show which was enjoyed by most. With new host Tony Giles taking us through the programme with one feature match alongside clips from past matches as well as news and views. FWA TV series 1 was used purely as a tool to hype this big British Uprising 3 event but hopefully now series 2 can be a more sustainable show used to promote the FWA and not just one show.

The 26th of February will be a big night for British Wrestling as well as the FWA as Jody Fleisch is coming to New Frontiers to make a special announcement. After appearing at British Uprising 3 to thank the fans that he didn’t get chance to say goodbye to when he left British Wrestling has Jody once again got the wrestling bug? Could we see him back in 2005 and see our greatest asset back in the ring to make 2005 the year that really changes the UK Scene for good? You will have to be at New Frontiers to find out.

As we draw nearer to International Showdown more and more news is being announced. It has been reported this week that Sonjay Dutt will no longer be coming to the UK due to commitments in Japan. This leaves a space open in the fatal four way match to go against Petey Williams, Spud and Jonny Storm. Many think it will be filled by NWA:TNA star Chris Sabin but we will have to wait for official word.

The Wrestling channel have also announced they will be following in FWA’s footsteps from 2004 and having a guest World of Sport match between Steve Grey and Mal Sanders. These two veterans must have lost count of the times they have wrestled each other and always seem to be brought out to represent world of sport so hopefully it should be another classic.

So that’s it for this week as I get ready for the all night fest that will be the Superbowl be sure to watch it and of course be sure to get to some live UK action.
