UK Scene #162

5 March 2005

Wrestling 101 UK Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

Welcome one and all to another one of my expeditions through the stories that have been making the news in the UK Scene this week. Today I will be talking about the FWA’s first show of 2005 that went down last weekend, did they deliver? I will also talk about Chad Collyer’s tour of the UK, all the news out of the WAW camp and much more so sit back relax and hopefully let the fun begin.

The FWA are now off and rolling in 2005 after getting their first event of the year “new Frontiers” under their belt. It was a packed night of action from top to bottom last Saturday if not a little confusing at times with so many storylines going on, the event did what it set out to do and create some interest to take with them in to 2005.

In a shocking moment the guys from WAW made a huge impact on “New Frontiers” as after a 30 minute encounter with Chris Hero Zebra Kid was left laying by his father Ricky Knight leaving his Wife Sweet Saraya and son Zak Zodiac to pick up the pieces. Looks like we now have the first family of the FWA all be it a very dysfunctional one.

The main event which saw Alex Shane defending his title against Jonny Storm was marred in controversy. Jonny Storm gained a pinfall over the Showstealer only for Elisar Cabrerra to come in saying that Alex hadn’t signed his contract for a one fall match so the event must be fought under the old best out of 3 falls rules. This is one of the weakest reasoning I have ever seen at a wrestling event as surely if Alex Shane hadn’t signed a contract the match shouldn’t be going ahead whatsoever but hey what do I know except Alex came back to win it 2 – 1.

The headline news making events happened after the main event though as James Tighe and Mark Belton came down to lay the beat down on the defeated Jonny Storm. This was broken up by Jody Fleisch who chose that moment to announce his full time return to the FWA and that his come back match will be against Mark Belton to avenge the incidents from British Uprising III and recent events.

Having Jody Fleisch back actively competing in the UK Scene is the best news we could of hoped for this year and hopefully this news will spur the UK Scene on to even greater things this year as we now have our golden boy back. I would of personally liked to see him have his comeback match against either against Jonny Storm or at least tagging with him but it is just amazing to have him back fighting anyone.

US star Chad Collyer is enjoying a good tour of the UK at the moment. Again like many stars he was brought over by Brian Dixon at All Star but he is also getting about working for other promotions. Last week he appeared at FCW “Reckless Abandon” showing once again the reputation FCW is developing as he tagged with Spud to defeat Rob Hunter and Morales in the quarter final of the tag team tournament so hopefully that should see Chad stepping in to a FCW ring again some time in the near future.

In other All Star news Dave Taylor has now returned to the US to take up a coaching role with the WWE.

Whilst the big show of the year International Showdown happens at the Coventry Skydome on that same very night March the 20th WAW will be making a bit of history as they come down my neck of the woods to promote their first event from Exeter St. George’s Hall. This venue is steeped in wrestling history as over the past decades it was a regular stopping point for All Star and TWA but now that TWA have gone and All Star are now using the Riverside leisure centre in the city WAW are bringing back wrestling to the hall.

Three matches have already been signed for the card. The matches are Zebra Kid vs. Jason Cross, The Kraft vs. Rock Weiler and Sweet Saraya vs. Destiny. This event will be the fall out from the night before as WAW present “Who dares wins” on March 19th from “The Talk” in Norwich. It is good to see that one of my favourite wrestlers Majik will be appearing on the card as he continues to expand his work across the UK.

Following on from the successful IWF / NWA-UK joint show Jonny Moss from NWA-UK will be invading IWF’s card from Gateshead this weekend to take on IWF favourite Younsta. To add to this the IWF will be involved in another joint show on March 25th as they go against the best 3CW have to offer in Middlesbrough. It’s good to see IWF starting to emerge over the last few years by doing things the right way and developing links up in the North of the country.

I have just been on to EWW website and they have put the card for their next big event “Rage” on April 8th up on the website and it looks like this:

  • EWW World Heavyweight Title
    Contract vs. Title Match
  • 'Uptown' Frankie Capone vs. The Dominator
  • No DQ - Falls Count Anywhere Match
    Flatliner vs. Marcus Dillan
  • No Holds Barred Grudge Match
    Ashe vs. 'Playboy' Phil Bedwell
  • Tables Match
    'Psycho' Silvera vs. Battalion
  • Bash vs. Cyclone

This should be an awesome event and it once again take place from the Palace Nightclub in Witney, Oxfordshire.

Thanks once again for reading it’s been a pleasure entertaining you all. Be sure to catch Goldy’s excellent fully comprehensive UK scene coverage in the TWO newsletter and as always be sure to read Saracen’s latest Tenet it’s another top notch read.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley

ST: Do not talk to me about fake
By Saz on 6 January 2008
There’s a saying in wrestling. The person who says that wrestling is fake knows nothing about wrestling at all. Say fake to people like Chris Benoit whose “fake” concussions turned him insane, say fake to Sid whose leg broke in half after the merest of falls, say fake to every single wrestler who has been through agony [...]
ST: What does TV do for the UK Scene?
By Saz on 27 November 2007
Being a professional wrestler can be such an enjoyable experience, yet, sometimes such a frustrating one. There is that old school opinion that wrestling is built from respect and that your time and your actions deserve the opportunities that you get. I know my place in the scheme of things, I have my rung on the [...]
ST: Time to get the attitude right

You know, when I came back from Spain, a few things dawned on me. The first being how stuck up our own arses we Brits are. Bear with me on this, I am going somewhere with this.

Howdo, Your friendly neighbourhood Saz here, coming to you live from Tarragona, that would be on the South coast of Spain for all you non geography types. Yup, ole Sazza is sitting here supping Cevesa enjoying the sand, sea, sun, sangria and senoritas!
 ST: More wrestler ramblings
By Saz on 22 July 2007
I mentioned in the UK scene that I think that British wrestling is beginning to carve out a niche of its own, separate to the direct influence of the Americans. There will always be influence of course, that can’t be denied a good idea that works should always be used and the great thing about the [...]
