Welcome grapple fans to a brand spanking new edition of the UK Scene. Tony Blair may still be in charge but hey look on the bright side I’m still here. Ok maybe not much of a silver lining but work with me on this one. This week I will be discussing the big FWA London Calling event this weekend as well as all the other stories making the news this week.

Before I start my column this week I want to thank everyone who has emailed or posted on the forums with praise for my interview with William Regal. Unfortunately though the support hasn’t been across the board and it has been a hard week for me. When the first part of the interview went up I sent a press release to every mainstream wrestling website on the net which I have done in the past for other sites when they have had a big WWE star interview which has seen it got mentions on websites like Wrestling Observer. However this time for some reason only two websites printed something for me and for this I thank them very much.

I know it is up to the respective webmasters and writers what stories they feature but when in the past I have done them favours and put their press releases in my column or on the newsboard it saddens me that they can’t even give me the common courtesy to do likewise. Even with all of this going on the traffic has been high this week with people coming back to check if part 2 had gone up all through the week. All I ask is if you like the interview tell your friends and post it on the forums and remember if you want to win a signed copy of William Regal’s book “Walking the Golden Mile” to get your answers in quickly.

I do however have to give a shout out to Jim Varsallone at the Miami Herald newspaper who posted a story about the interview in the sports section of the Miami Herald Website. Jim has done a lot to get wrestling news and information out to a mainstream audience and his section of the website is one of the few wrestling pages I read on a regular basis. The story can be read by clicking here. You have to sign up to view the site but it is free and only takes a matter of seconds.

After mixed reviews on their last big event (Crunch) the FWA will be out to prove their critics wrong with this weekends offering London Calling. Creatively it looks good as Dr. Dirk Feelgood brings us his version of Carlito’s Cabana entitled “The Clinic” which should bring us some quality entertainment. The event will also see the FWA debut of Bubblegum who has received many good reviews from his performances across the country. The double main event will be making all the headlines as relative rookie to the FWA Spud gives up a huge weight difference when he squares off against Doug Williams and the Showstealer Alex Shane has somehow managed to get himself out of defending his title in a one on one match by tagging with Hade Vansen to go against the new paring of Jack Xavier and Paul Travell.

I think the event has potential to be another solid FWA event for which I am glad to see much deserving Jack Xavier in the main event. It will be a history making night for Spud as well as we see if he can do in FWA what Rey Mysterio did in WCW. I am fully behind the FWA using ideas that work in the WWE with the debut of “The Clinic” and I think if used rightly it will make the FWA shows a bit more complete. The only thing about the event was one advertising post I saw somewhere for the event which included an announcement that a forum member from the UKFF under the name of Bagga would be drawing a raffle. Ok a raffle is a good way to get a little extra cash but advertising the raffle and even who will draw the raffle makes the event look a bit cheap the only reason I would advertise this is if I had a celebrity drawing it.

Wrestling101’s very own Scott Future is receiving public backing from his peers for his ongoing campaign against those damn Celebrity Wrestlers. BRAWL’s MTX and Shabazz have come out in support of Scott even offering to help fight some of the battle with him. After speaking with Scott this week he assures me he is not planning on going away any time soon and he is sounding really upbeat about where the campaign is going so hopefully I will have more news for you in the next few weeks.

After months of waiting and asking it looks like FCW’s website is back on track. After problems with their old server they have now moved servers and are gearing up to restart the website. To view the statement from the website go to: FutureWrestling.co.uk. A website is an important promotional tool for UK promotions due to no widespread media attention so the sooner FCW can get it back online the better.

Now speaking about promotions that have problems with websites I am now going to talk about IPW:UK. It maybe a problem my end but when I tried to go on to their website it wouldn’t let me log on so I will have to rely on the information that was emailed through to me. After showcasing the lightweight talent that Britain has to offer, at Best of British 2 it’s all going to be about the heavyweights. Two matches have been signed this week for this big event which include Jack Storm going against Tony Sefton and in a match that will see two newcomers compete Chris Wyld will square off against Eamon O’Neil.

Now I know this is old news but there has been a lot happening at GPW recently. The promotion which was originally started by Lee Butler has now parted ways with him and a man named Richard Noble has taken charge. There have been stories circulating the net about Lee so who knows what the truth is but all I do know is that GPW is back on track. GPW have been a sleepy hollow type of promotion since the start. They had a little involvement with the FWA at one time but besides from that they have been happy producing events from the Monaco Ballroom without much hoopla or coverage on the net. Who knows what direction Richard will take them in but I hope it work outs for them.

A quick note for all those wrestling fans living in Exeter that RBW have moved the location of their weekly training sessions. Their weekly wrestling training sessions used to emanate from the Riverside Leisure Centre but they have now moved to Fitness First. Prices and times are still the same I am lead to believe.

Thanks guys for tuning in once again this week. It has been a pleasure attempting to entertain you again and I will catch you all next week. Sorry the column was a bit on the light side this week but there wasn’t many news worthy stories doing the rounds.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
