Welcome one and all to another one of my weekly insights into the world of professional wrestling. After spending the week conducting interviews with people involved in the wrestling business stateside it is good to find myself once again in the safe realms of the British grapple game. This week I will be talking about the FWA embarking on their first tour of the year, Celebrity Wrestling competing against Breakfast with Frost and the busy weekend of shows we have over the bank holiday. So once again I beg of you please read on.

After I had the privilege of being involved in the first FWA tour “The Breakout tour” in 2003 FWA are launching themselves in to their biggest tour to date as they bring to us “The Celebrity Carnage Tour” The Celebrity Wrestling programme may have been carnage for all the wrong reasons but hopefully this tour will finally something good which involves the words wrestling and celebrity, two words which most wrestling fans don’t want to mutter in the same breath again.

This tour will see the two head trainers from the programme Joe Legend and D’Lo Brown taking their feud to the ring across 6 dates in 6 different towns. The FWA have produced a mini site for the tour which look a lot to different to their normal standard website layout which can viewed by going to http://www.frontierwrestling.com/tour/index.html. I just hope the tour is better than the website that’s all I can say. The good news is that the tour will feature rare appearances in the FWA by Johnny Angel this could even be his FWA debut on the tour whichever way he is a great addition to the tour.

The good news about the tour is that it will see the FWA visiting a host of new venues which if successful could become regular touring venues for the FWA. In past tours they have tested venues like the Winter Gardens and the Morecambe Dome which are now two regularly visited venues by the FWA. The only way for the FWA to grow is to get more regular venues added to their touring list and hopefully this tour will see the birth of a few more.

I know this is old news now but for once on Sunday I woke up in the a.m hours with a grin on my face. Normally after a heavy night out on Saturday I hate being woken up on Sunday morning but to be greeted by the sight of Celebrity Wrestling on Sunday mornings did make me smile. I personally then flicked over to see Breakfast with Frost and the Heaven and Earth show being the intellectual that I am, ok I watched Hollyoaks I lie but T4 is brilliant hangover TV.

Reflecting on the situation in the afternoon some thoughts did hit me about the whole situation. The viewing ratings will plummet again because of the change but now a higher percentage of children will be watching it which is the key audience for wrestling so will this have a greater effect on the wrestling business. I will let you ponder that one.

An event which really fell off the radar after it was announced went down a couple of weeks ago in Holland as DCW presented “Thursday Turbulence.” The event featured a strong British contingent and all in all it was a successful night for our Brits. TJ Cain, Cameron Knite and Damon Leigh went to a no contest with Joey Hayes. So well done to our boys and I hope the run in DCW continues.

It is a proud week for us here at Wrestling 101 as a wrestler we had a lot of a faith in is currently on his Pukkamania world tour. Of course it could only be the Pukka one himself Darren Burridge. He recently lost a casket match with Vampiro in Italy but who would of thought all those years ago when we were tipping him he would be competing on the same card as the likes of Johnny Stamboli, Chuck Palumbo, Rikishi and of course Vampiro. I hope when he gets back from the tour he will be used more in the UK as like Jonny Storm said in an interview for Slam Wrestling it seems you have to do well overseas before you can be a star in the UK.

The promotional drive for the Best of ITV Wrestling DVD due out on June 6th is in full swing. The honour was given to the Dropkixx wrestling academy to hold the launch event by Granada. Dropkixx supremos John Hall and Jon Ritchie were also on hand for this big event which saw reporters and Dropkixx trainees getting in to the ring and being put through their paces by the legendary Mick McManus.

It was like Black Hawk Down at IPW:UK’s Best of British 2 event last weekend. Both Andy Simmonz and Tony Sefton were on the receiving end of some injuries. Big news coming out of the event is that Martin Stone will face Stevie Douglas for the IPW:UK title at the next event for which Aviv Mayaan is planning a huge number one contenders match.

The Sun is shining which can only mean one thing it’s the bank holiday weekend and with that has come an abundance of wrestling events. Forget about getting a tan or going to the beach why not go and see some grapple action instead. There are 16 shows that I know of taking places from Friday all through the long bank holiday weekend. Events are happening from Somerset to County Durham and across to Ireland. So whatever you do this weekend be sure to check if there is any wrestling happening in your town.
