Heroes Leave, Tango and Cash Prevails and Others Randomness

I know, long time since I wrote a new article; life got in the way of things so this took a backseat to that. But in the meantime certain things have happened, some good some bad but it all makes for some news in the end, such as a departing Hero, PWG’s Tango and Cash Invitational, five years of CZW and other random things that only I can mention.

Chris Hero has finally made his final exit for IWA Mid South at the end of January, losing his “Loser Leaves IWA Match” with the current champion Danny Daniels. Its probably one of the more bittersweet departures for that fed. Hero’s been the backbone of that fed for the last year and a half, as a wrestler, and even as a trainer for the fed. They both were synomous with one another.

It was also where I got my first taste of him, specifically in the ninety minute match between him and CM Punk that happened the year before. That one match showed me how for real he was in wrestling. I watched with my brother, unfortunately it was a bad mistake, Hero wrestles a style more for Old School Wrestling fans than anyone else. But something about him makes you want to root for him. He made it to TNA, albeit only on Xplosion and is going to do more MLW, along with more at CZW. This year more doors will be open to him than there was ever before.

Pro-Wrestling Guerilla, or PWG held their PWG Tango and Cash Invitational in a search to crown their first ever tag team champions. Their owners are smart, they found a way to make it interesting for the wrestling fan. Each tag team was placed together and given a specific name based on a buddy movie, such as American Dragon and Superdragon, “Double Dragons”, Samoa Joe and Puma “Lilo and Stitch”, and the personal favourite of mine and the winners of the whole thing, B-boy and Homicide “Friday”. I can’t review yet until I get the tape, but when I do I’ll be more than happy to give an overview for all to see.

From the So-Cal to the East Coast, Saturday Night will signal the debut of World-1 Wrestling, the American Zero-1 in a early show in Viking Hall as part of a double header with CZW and their 5th year anniversary show. If the World 1 show delivers and keeps the novice fans in the seats for the CZW show, the draw should be good. I can’t make predictions, but if Zandig has a good showing on Saturday, he better keep up the storylines, and start to push those guys that deserve the chance. He finally did with Sonjay and Jimmy Rave who’s been the whipping boy for almost all of wrestling recently. If he doesn’t start the year off right, it might not be a good path for the rest of the year. But I’m optimistic, and hope for the best, if he works with the guys he does have he will make more strides and hopefully legitimise CZW as something other than some garbage fed that it still gets known as.

Other thoughts:

-BJ Penn just had to go beat Matt Hughes... I hate losing money soo much.

-The more I look at Tito Ortiz the bigger his head gets

-HHH is starting to bear an uncanny resemblance to Zandig when he’s at the right angle. I think we may have to start asking him when the baby is due also.

-I now love Samoa Joe. You got to love a guy who loves his Korean BBQ.

-Is it me or does it seem that ROH’s pure wrestling title seem to be pure...crap? If your going to have a pure wrestling title, at least have pure wrestler’s in the final?

Can’t think of much else to talk about, so I won’t, hopefully I can get these up regularly if the powers at be at college decide that a paper every 2 weeks might be a tad overkill. Until then later.

THWD: The case for a WWE off-season
By Tink Holloway on 3 May 2008
My goodness, how long ago does Wrestlemania seem already!? Despite the WWE’s attempts to link everything they could at Backlash with WM24, the night felt far detached from the bright lights of the Citrus Bowl. It’s a shame that there is so little time to take in what happened at the biggest event of the [...]
 THWD: MMA and Wrestling?
By Tink Holloway on 25 April 2008
I’d like to make a survey asking fans of professional wrestling why it is that they watch it. I wonder how many of them would answer because it’s a form of combat? I only wonder about this because over the last 3 or 4 years I’ve become increasingly perplexed at the close proximity of sports-entertainment [...]
THWD: UK - The WWE?s nice little earner
By Tink Holloway on 18 April 2008
Ever since I was very young and watched my first WWE (F as it was at the time) pay-per-view, Royal Rumble 1994, I had always wanted to see it live. The way Vince McMahon would assure everybody that the arena had gone cold when The Undertaker came out and the fan reaction to Bret Hart?s [...]
 KR: The Road to WrestleMania
By Robert Heard on 29 March 2008
Right, well it is well known that I am a Puro writer and have never written on the subject of American Wrestling. But a Puro blog on the eve of WrestleMania seems wrong, not in the least because WrestleMania is not a Japanese event at all?HustleMania is but then the less said about that the [...]

So WrestleMania, the biggest event on the calendar for wrestling fans will be a huge event. It will be the second ever to be held completely outdoors. It is reported it will pump twenty five million into the local economy and bring 60,000 people to Orlando as well.
