X-Bonez Interview

3 August 2003

Wrestling 101 UK Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

X-Bonez isn’t the normal run of the mill wrestler, what makes X-Bonez stand out is that at 15 years old this young determined lad has become a pro-wrestler. K-Star owner and former British wrestler Steve Logan trained x-Bonez. Steve has wrestled for Stampede Wrestling in Canada, So X-Bonez was trained by a man that has been around the wrestling circuit. This was an interview to catch up to how a 15year old school lad goes from the class room by day and enters the squared circle by night.

First off I would like to welcome you to Talk Wrestling Online / Wrestling 101.

Hey, people. And thanks for letting me do this interview.

Can you start off by telling us how you got in to wrestling? And who trained you?

I got into wrestling from an early age, about 5-6 I think, when the likes of Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart graced our screens (I can honestly say I didn’t mark out for them though!). I saw it on TV just after we got Sky TV and I was instantly hooked.

I never really thought seriously about getting into wrestling until a few years back after seeing the UWA fail, I thought well if there’s an English fed there surely there’s one around by me. A friend told me about K-star. I sent away for the details on a wrestling seminar and they came back about August. I attended the October seminar and was trained mainly by Steve Logan and I’ve never looked back.

Now your only 15 yrs old and already had 4 pro matches, did you ever expect to become a pro so quickly?

No, I got my first show in February, on the junior show for Sedgely. The month later I was being put on a full show for K-star, which I can honestly say I didn’t expect. I expected to do a few junior shows and then maybe ease my way into the full shows later on. I’m not complaining though!

Can you tell us about your gimmick?

At the minute my gimmick is that I am not being booked to my potential. I started it as a heel at the last show. I came out and started moaning to Steve that I wanted to be booked better than I am. In a few words, to sum it up my gimmick is a little whining, complaining heel.

Who came up with the idea for the gimmick? And do you see yourself winning a match any time soon?

Ummm, I think it was Snake that came up with the idea so I could get over as heel more for our match, and to tell the truth I’m pretty sure it worked. To tell the truth, I really don’t mind whether I win or lose each match, as long as I can get out there on shows and put on matches.
What’s been the best part of your short career?

Probably my match against Snake last month at the Collingwood Centre. I feel it did me a lot of good getting a match like that where I can use my preferred style of wrestling as opposed to when I was wrestling Iranian Warrior and I was playing the Spike Dudley style face, taking loads of bumps and getting thrown around.

Any good stories you can share with us from your career so far?

Well there’s the most obvious one that I’m sure everyone has heard about my mic work at the last show in the Collingwood Centre on 5th August. I came out and grabbed the mic. It was going pretty well at first but then I started stuttering, stalling and in my opinion just plain choking.

Then there’s the one from my first show, it wasn’t for my match but it was on a later on. Someone hit a swanton bomb, got up and started celebrating. Steve shouted ‘Oh, he’s missed!’ so the guy hit the ground and started selling like he had missed!

Who has been most supportive to you through your time as a wrestler?

I can’t really pick one person who has been the most supportive since I started, but I think really it’s been the people at school. Some of the ones that like wrestling are impressed, and that’s played a big part in me keeping going as a wrestler. Probably just so I can show off to them! :)

Were your parents shocked you became a pro-wrestler?

They hate it. As soon as I started, they were doing everything within their power to try and stop me doing it. They were grounding me from it, pleading with me to stop going. But I like it too much :) and I don’t think at this time, anything could stop me wrestling.

What’s it like working for K-Star?

Working for K-star is great, all the people there are really tight with each other, the atmosphere there is brilliant. That I know of there are no grudges, hates or anything, which makes working there all the easier.

Being a pro-wrestler at 15yrs old must be quite breath taking, what do all your school friends and family feel about this?

Like I said, my family hate it, my parents anyway. They want me out of it. But in some cases some of my school friends are impressed, while others think I’m stupid. But wrestling is something you either like or hate. For me though the whole ride has been great, if I had the chance I wouldn’t change a thing!

What’s been your best match so far?

Definetly the one against Snake last month at the Collingwood Centre. We had a lot of high paced spots, high impact spots etc. In my previous matches I haven’t been able to do any high paced spots because I’ve been wrestling Iranian Warrior (No offence Abbas!) and he prefers to work power spots to high paced.

Also, I’ve been told by a few people that the match was really good with Snake, I never managed to get my hands on a tape though for it.

Out of all the wrestlers, which one from k-star do you like to wrestle the most? And why?

Really, I don’t have a preference, I don’t mind wrestling anyone. Of course I’d rather wrestle people that wrestle the same style as me so we can both do the spots we want. We can get in high spots, high paced spots etc.

There are people your age doing backyard wrestling, and you have shown them that you can become a pro so early in age, what would you say to anyone competing in backyard wrestling?

I’d tell them to bring all their innovation to a good wrestling school. Because I’m sure people that know me know that I like the innovation of backyard wrestlers. But we should encourage them to get into a wrestling school to stop them ripping each other apart. Also, if we did this successfully, it would greatly benefit British wrestling.

Well X-Bonez I wish you all the luck in your career, is there any last comments you want to share with us before we close this interview?

Sure, thanks for letting me do this interview and check out my site at http://x-bonez.2ya.com for more updates on what’s going on for me and K-Star.

ST: Do not talk to me about fake
By Saz on 6 January 2008
There’s a saying in wrestling. The person who says that wrestling is fake knows nothing about wrestling at all. Say fake to people like Chris Benoit whose “fake” concussions turned him insane, say fake to Sid whose leg broke in half after the merest of falls, say fake to every single wrestler who has been through agony [...]
ST: What does TV do for the UK Scene?
By Saz on 27 November 2007
Being a professional wrestler can be such an enjoyable experience, yet, sometimes such a frustrating one. There is that old school opinion that wrestling is built from respect and that your time and your actions deserve the opportunities that you get. I know my place in the scheme of things, I have my rung on the [...]

You know, when I came back from Spain, a few things dawned on me. The first being how stuck up our own arses we Brits are. Bear with me on this, I am going somewhere with this.

 ST: More wrestler ramblings

I mentioned in the UK scene that I think that British wrestling is beginning to carve out a niche of its own, separate to the direct influence of the Americans. There will always be influence of course, that can’t be denied a good idea that works should always be used and the great thing about the [...]
