K-Star KotR Video Review

23 August 2003

Wrestling 101 UK Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

This week I will be doing a UK Scene related review as I go over the latest K-Star event video which was their King of the Ring 2003 tournament held earlier this year.

K-Star King of the Ring 2003

Now you may remember me talking about this event in the UK Scene column in February. Well this week I finally managed to sit down and review the tape from the show and here are my thoughts on from what I was hearing about the event was a sound night of entertainment.

I must first off start by talking about the production values of the tape itself. I was mightily impressed by the intro sequence they had put together and with the on screen graphics used throughout the show like wrestlers names appearing at the bottom of the screen and the use of instant replays whilst still being able to see the action going on. On top of this the use of multi camera was edited together superbly so even without watching the action I was impressed.

Now for the production values of the show itself. I thought once again these were high with a brilliant entrance way set up with black curtains, K-Star banners, lights the lot looked very impressive. The venue looked huge and was filled, could hardly see an empty seat in the house.

I have already reviewed the results so I wont go over those but for in-ring action it had some superb moments. The guy I keep on raving about Carl Mizzery pulled it out again as he put on three stellar performances on the night and was well over with the fans. Saying this though Carl wasn't my man of the night I know shock, shock horror.

My man of the night award had to go to a wrestler who doesn't get praised enough that being Sal Americana. Working in a Kurt Angle like role he was brilliant he worked the crowd brilliantly to the point they were mobbing him come his third match. His in ring work was impeccable with a good arsenal of moves and some very innovative throws.
Match of the night was definitely Carl Mizzery vs. Sal Americana without doubt one of the best matches I have seen so far this year. Both competitors had already worked two matches but this didn't matter as they had brilliant chemistry being the top heel and face on the night respectively. The crowd were really in to it and was a brilliant way to cap a good night of entertainment.

One guy I want to see more now from the show is a wrestler called "The Bouncer" I had never seen him wrestle before the show but he impressed me very much so will have to get some more K-Star videos.

Until next time

ST: Do not talk to me about fake
By Saz on 6 January 2008
There’s a saying in wrestling. The person who says that wrestling is fake knows nothing about wrestling at all. Say fake to people like Chris Benoit whose “fake” concussions turned him insane, say fake to Sid whose leg broke in half after the merest of falls, say fake to every single wrestler who has been through agony [...]
ST: What does TV do for the UK Scene?
By Saz on 27 November 2007
Being a professional wrestler can be such an enjoyable experience, yet, sometimes such a frustrating one. There is that old school opinion that wrestling is built from respect and that your time and your actions deserve the opportunities that you get. I know my place in the scheme of things, I have my rung on the [...]
ST: Time to get the attitude right
By Saz on 22 September 2007
You know, when I came back from Spain, a few things dawned on me. The first being how stuck up our own arses we Brits are. Bear with me on this, I am going somewhere with this.

Howdo, Your friendly neighbourhood Saz here, coming to you live from Tarragona, that would be on the South coast of Spain for all you non geography types. Yup, ole Sazza is sitting here supping Cevesa enjoying the sand, sea, sun, sangria and senoritas!
 ST: More wrestler ramblings
By Saz on 22 July 2007
I mentioned in the UK scene that I think that British wrestling is beginning to carve out a niche of its own, separate to the direct influence of the Americans. There will always be influence of course, that can’t be denied a good idea that works should always be used and the great thing about the [...]
