Lexie Fyfe Interview

28 August 2003

Wrestling 101 US Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

As women's wrestling continues to grow, promoters frantically search for combinations of ability and good looks. Lexie Fyfe is one of those women who possesses both of these qualities, as she takes the US Indy scene by storm. She's toured the US, flown over to wrestle in the UK and now (very kindly) granted an interview. So sit back and enjoy.

Thank you for granting this interview, Lexie. How are you doing these days?

I'm fine- thanks for asking. I have stayed very busy in 2002 and am enjoying a little bit of a break over the Christmas holidays. I'm moving to Florida and am looking forward to it. All the packing has me busy though!

Now as not many over here know a lot about you, tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into the business. Had you followed wrestling for a while before becoming a wrestler?

I've always enjoyed watching wrestling but hadn't really considered it as a career choice. I met Brandi Wine at a company we both worked for. She had been valeting for an Indy group and mentioned that they were looking for some women to train. I thought it would be fun and gave it a try. Within a year, I had quit my job and was wrestling full time. I never thought I would get to travel and do as much as wrestling has allowed me to do. It's been a great career!

When and where was your first match? And how did it go?

It was in Thomasville, NC at a National Guard Armory. It was a six-person tag match with me and my partners, Ricky Morton (Rock -n-Roll Express) and Denny Cooley against Brandi Wine and the Mavericks. We lost when the Mavericks and Brandi cheated but the crowd knew who really should have won. I was hooked after that match. The addiction to wrestling kicked in.

You've wrestled in a lot of promotions and against a lot of wrestlers. Which matches stick out in your mind for whatever reason, good and bad?

I did a U.S. military base tour in 1999. One of the places we stopped was an army base in Bosnia. That was a great day. They gave us a tour of the base and treated us so well. The show that night was very crowded. They had even brought in soldiers from other bases. My match was against Wendi Richter and we went all out. We both came away bruised and tired but I knew going into the match that it would be brutal. These soldiers were away from home for the whole year without their families and we weren't about to wuss out and do a lame match. We had a huge autograph signing session after the show and I met so many people. It was a great experience.

Do you have a favourite place to wrestle?

I can't say that I have a favourite place. Anywhere that the crowd is reacting well to what we're doing is great to me!

What do you think of the womens division in WWE, with wrestlers such as Molly Holly, Trish Stratus, Victoria and Jazz?

I think that the WWE divas have really stepped up their ring work lately. I've wrestled against Molly Holly, Ivory and Lita before so I knew their ring work. I've always thought Jazz was good and can't wait for her return. Trish and Victoria are doing really well. They are all nice people too, which makes it even better.

Could you ever see yourself in WWE?

Sure, I did that one little match in 1999 against Tori (Sunday Night Heat) and a couple of house shows last year. I would love to work with them again. We'll see.

Earlier in the year, you came over to the UK for FWA UK Revival, where you lost to Nikita. What did you think of Nikita, the FWA and the UK crowd?

I had wrestled Nikita once before at a US show. I knew she was a good wrestler so I was looking forward to the match. The crowd was awesome. They really got into the show. Of course, the FWA was very professional and put on a top-notch show. The production was excellent and the wrestling was fabulous. They have some very talented wrestlers in the UK. It was a great experience to be involved with.

Would you like to come back over for another FWA show?

I would love to. Tell them to book me right away!!

Who's been your favourite opponent so far?

Wow, that's a tough one. There are a few that I love to work with. Right now, Macaela Mercedes who I have been feuding with and have had some awesome matches with. We've wrestled each other enough where we know how stiff we can be with one another. Watch us chop each other sometime!

What is the best part about wrestling?

The fans! I definitely have the best fans in the world. They are the only reason that I keep on doing what I'm doing. The give me the energy to get back out there even when I'm hurting! Thanks to all of you!

What does the future hold for Lexie Fyfe?

Well, I'll keep wrestling for as long as it stays fun. I love it too much to quit. I am going back to school though. I hold a BA degree in Communications already but I want to get my Education degree. I'd like to be a teacher. I've been substitute teaching already so it's the next step.

Well thank you for the interview. Hope we can do this again someday. Any last words?

Please come visit my site (link below) and if I'm in a town near you, come see the show! Thanks!

THWD: The Legacy Of Bret Hart
By Tink Holloway on 13 July 2008
In my opinion Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, his technique in the ring was unparalleled and he was arguably the most committed, hard-working individual in the history of the sport. At Wrestlemania 10 he put on, what is to this day, my favourite [...]
THWD: Do You Remember The First Time?
By Tink Holloway on 7 July 2008
Much has been written about CM Punk winning the world title on Raw this week. I personally like to view it with optimism, WWE television has been so stale lately that anything that breaks up the monotonous daily grind in the promotion has got to be a plus. Still I do understand [...]
THWD: WWE Raw Find?s It?s Feet
By Tink Holloway on 28 June 2008
WWE Draft RAW - June 23rd 2008 I have to admit to being mildly interested in this year?s Raw draft. WWE is in major need of a change and this was their chance to make those changes. I was convinced however that the creative geniuses behind the WWE would drop the ball again [...]
THWD: One Year On - The Benoit Problem
By Tink Holloway on 22 June 2008

THWD: The case for a WWE off-season
By Tink Holloway on 3 May 2008
My goodness, how long ago does Wrestlemania seem already!? Despite the WWE’s attempts to link everything they could at Backlash with WM24, the night felt far detached from the bright lights of the Citrus Bowl. It’s a shame that there is so little time to take in what happened at the biggest event of the [...]
