This past week I had the opportunity to interview US independent star Mighty Angus. Angus has worked on the independents scene for over 4 years, traveling over most of the United States; This guy has wrestled for a lot of promotions and as also worked dates for the WWF and ECW. Angus is currently in talks with a major wrestling organization and will let us all know which one it is once the deal is signed. Angus was 400lbs plus, but now weighs in at around 340lbs, he is over 6ft tall and a man that can go all the way to being a top wrestling superstar. The legendary Ed Sharkey trained Angus, who has produced stars like Rick Rude, Road Warriors, Lenny Lane, X-Pac and many more, and there is no doubt in my mind that can stop Angus going to the top of the ladder. So lets get to this fantastic interview with Mighty Angus.

First off I would like to welcome Angus to Talk Wrestling Online / Wrestling 101.

Could you firstly tell us how you got in to wrestling?

I grew up watching the WWF, AWA, NWA and it was always something I wanted to do! I used to love watching it, especially when my dad, my grandfather, and I would all go together. When I had the opportunity to attend wrestling school I finally did.

You was trained by the legendry Ed Sharky what was it like training and being at the Monster Factory?

It was pretty incredible, being around all the names that used to stop by the training camp, names like Lenny Lane, Charlie Norris, Road Warrior Animal, X- Pac, the list goes on and on. It was very hard on the mind and body, and you had to really want it, or else they would tell you to hit the door, they were there to make wrestlers, not pansies. I was taught old school, which very few are nowadays, and I am glad. I have a lot more respect because I was taught the old school way.

How did you find Ed Sharkey? And any good stories about him?

I had attended a local show, that was actually about 65 miles away, and during intermission, talked to one of the wrestlers, and asked him about how he got in it, and who did the training, and he told me the referee did the training, which was Eddie Sharkey! So that following Monday afternoon, I went and attended a viewing session and was immediately hooked. I started the following Wednesday. We attended 3 days a week for 3-4 hours at a time, it was very tough. I had owned my own business so it freed me up somewhat, as I had to travel 120 miles one way 3 times a week just to be there! There are a lot of good stories about Eddie, I don’t know how clean you want this interview to be? (Laughing) Actually one of the things few people know about Sharkey is that he is a legit badass, a real shooter! He was once known as one of the best street fighters in all of Minneapolis!

What promotions have you worked for?

Oh god, too many to list! Let just say this, I have worked from Minnesota, to as far west as Colorado, and as far east as Florida, West Virginia and all up and down the southern states.

Tell us about your time with the AWF?

They had brought me in as a bodyguard for the PWO, after which a short time, I started wrestling singles matches, then was pushed as a killer heel, put in a series of matches with the champion, and due to political reasons I left the AWF before I was given a run with the world title!

I saw on your website a picture with you posing with X-Pac and Road Warrior Animal, can you tell us a little how this photo came about?

A friend of mine named Brad Kohler, of the Ultimate Fighting, was very good friends with Animal. Any way Animal would let some of the Indy wrestlers in his gym in Minneapolis to work out for free, and I was in there working out, and Animal and X Pac where in there also, so we took the picture.

What championship belts have you won during your career?

God, to be honest with you, I have probably held at least 15 to 20 belts for various promotions, not counting tag team belts! Most recently I have held the Ultimate Extreme Wrestling belt out of Chattanooga Tennessee.

I know you have been in many wrestling magazines like WOW, PWI and many more so you have had a lot of coverage, but as there been a time you have been approached by a major wrestling promotion? And if so can you tell us about it?

Yes, I have worked for the WWF and ECW without a contract on several occasions, and currently I am in negotions with a major player, but would prefer to not say until details are finalized.

I read that you were kicked out of high school for power bombing the Dean is this true? And if so tell us how this came about?

Well, at one time I had a bad temper, and had been in trouble quite a bit, and this didn’t change when I attended college. Lets just say i never finished college, and had it not been for a stellar football career in high school, i would not have a diploma today. (Laughing)

What’s the most memorable moment so far in your career for you?

Probably the first time i had ever had a show in my hometown, it was like my third match ever, and it was a show I promoted myself, and had worked very hard at promoting, the town only had 2000 people in it, of which 1100 were legitimately in attendance! It had been the first pro wrestling show in that town for over 10 years, they had the local radio stations there doing a live remote, the local TV station was there taping it, the crowd was in such a frenzy, it is something I will never, ever forget. It was standing room only, and by the time main event came around, of which I was in, the people were absolutely nuts! The sound of 1100 people, most of which I knew, chanting Angus! Angus! It was unbelievable! And then in the end, I was being double teamed, and X-Pac ran out and saved me with a chair, this was during the heyday of the NWO, when he was a vital member, all the boys knew he was there, but absolutely not 1 fan knew he was there as we slipped him in the back door. It was a moment i will always remember!

Who as been the most influential in your wrestling career?

There has been a few people, mainly Eddie Sharkey and terry fox, and Charlie Norris for teaching me the ropes and how to act in the locker room, and how to respect people, I am very big on respect with people! I would also have to say, one of the biggest supporters in my life was my wife, of which we are no longer together, she stood behind me 100% and there were many times when I wanted to hang it all up, she was there to encourage me. Last, but not least important, I would have to say the Lord, as he has showed me right from wrong, and has helped guide my career all the way.

What can we expect for the Mighty Angus in say the next 12 to 15 months?

Well, to keep losing weight, as I am now down to 337 pounds, of which I legit weighed 425 when I started in wrestling. I lost weight to improve my ring skills, and try not to get hurt, I also have my sites set on Japan and Germany, where big men are appreciated.
