FWA Summer Classic Tour Preview

29 July 2005

Wrestling 101 UK Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

After the recent Vendetta show in Broxbourne, the FWA take to the road again this week for their Summer Classic Tour. This features shows in Morecambe on July 30 and a round-robin tournament in Enfield on the 31st. The shows mark the return to the FWA of ‘Classic’ Colt Cabana (who’s interviewed in the next edition of Piledriver).

Starting with the show in Morecambe, the main event sees a non-title Lumberjack match in the FWA for the first time ever as Alex Shane takes on the soon to retire, Stevie Knight.

At the FWA’s last show in Morecambe, held on June 18, Stevie Knight announced he was to retire from pro wrestling as he was moving to Spain. After a verbal bashing from Alex Shane, Knight ended up challenging the Showstealer for his FWA British Heavyweight Title. Of course that challenge was unsuccessful but this weekend sees a return match with ten lumberjacks outside the ring.

The card also sees Colt Cabana take on James Tighe and Jonny Storm. Now this really is an interesting match, not just because of the presence of Colt Cabana but Tighe and Storm in the same ring again. It was last year when Tighe beat Storm in Morecambe in a loser leaves the FWA match. Both wrestlers have had a bit of an attitude adjustment since then but there’s definitely ill-feeling between the pair. Cabana will have to be on his top form if he’s to make this pair laugh! Tighe also beat Cabana in Morecambe last year, can he repeat that feat this time around?

The FWA will crown their first ever Flyweight Champion this weekend as Spud takes on Ross Jordan in the tournament final. Spud has beaten Jack Storm and Max Voltage to reach this final, while Jordan has defeated Bubblegum and Aviv Maayan. At Vendetta, Jordan pinned Spud, can the midlands youngster get revenge and claim the title this weekend?

Jack Xavier meets Dr Dirk Feelgood (with Nurse Stephanie Scope) in a grudge match, while Iceman, now managed by Greg ‘The Truth’ Lambert, takes on Stevie Lynn. Iceman made his debut at Vendetta when attacking Paul Travell during his title match with Alex Shane. He has to fight in Morecambe this weekend as he’s barred from the Enfield card where Travell again meets Shane, more about that soon.

Aviv Maayan who surprisingly didn’t make it into the flyweight title final takes on Declan O’Connor.

Colt Cabana isn’t just in a great three-way match in Morecambe. Before the event he’s hosting ‘Good Times, Great Memories’ pre-show in the Waterfront Bar (tickets are four pounds) and also drawing the Morecambe Raffle!

Tickets for the show can be purchased on 01524 582 203 82803. Prices £16 Front Row Ringside, £10 adults, £7.50 children, £30 family ticket Doors 7pm with the show beginning at 7.30pm.

The following evening, it’s the Enfield Round-Robin Tournament at the Southbury Leisure Centre. Fiction meets fact as Jonny Storm really is part of the Fantastic Four!! He takes part in the round-robin tournament alongside Colt Cabana, Spud and Jodie Fleisch.

Now this could be an absolute classic with each wrestler having to wrestle all his opponents in singles matches. Storm has plenty of history with Cabana from the American’s UK tour of 2004 and of course takes on Colt in Morecambe on Saturday night. As for Jodie Fleisch, the pair must know each other backwards by now. Recently they’ve become tag team partners but is that friendship about to come to an end? As for Spud, well he could well be entering the ring as Flyweight Champion, could he achieve a great double this weekend?

If a classic round-robin tournament wasn’t enough, Alex Shane has to defend his FWA British Heavyweight Title against Paul Travell. It was at Vendetta that Travell won a battle royal to claim a title shot at Shane, a match he could have won but for interference by Iceman. FWA Commissioner Flash Barker has called for a rematch and barred Iceman from the arena. Can Travell finally get his hands on the British Title?

There’s another title match as Stixx and Martin Stone make the first defence of their Tag Team titles against Aviv Maayan and Ross Jordan.

This defence should have been taking place in Morecambe but the champion’s manager, Dean ‘The Twisted Genius’ Ayass has been rather outspoken about the qualities of Morecambe and prefers to defend the titles the pair won from Hampton Court in the south of England.

Could Ross Jordan win both the Flyweight and Tag titles in the same weekend? It might be a long shot but who knows?

Before the show there’s a Q&A session with Colt Cabana and an AJ Styles DVD Launch Party. This is at the Leisure centre at 4pm, admission two quid. Doors for the show open at 5.15pm with the show due to start at 5.45. Tickets are available by calling 07930 218243 and through www.fwaonlineplus.com Prices are £15 Front Row Ringside and £10.

ST: Do not talk to me about fake
By Saz on 6 January 2008
There’s a saying in wrestling. The person who says that wrestling is fake knows nothing about wrestling at all. Say fake to people like Chris Benoit whose “fake” concussions turned him insane, say fake to Sid whose leg broke in half after the merest of falls, say fake to every single wrestler who has been through agony [...]
ST: What does TV do for the UK Scene?
By Saz on 27 November 2007
Being a professional wrestler can be such an enjoyable experience, yet, sometimes such a frustrating one. There is that old school opinion that wrestling is built from respect and that your time and your actions deserve the opportunities that you get. I know my place in the scheme of things, I have my rung on the [...]

You know, when I came back from Spain, a few things dawned on me. The first being how stuck up our own arses we Brits are. Bear with me on this, I am going somewhere with this.

Howdo, Your friendly neighbourhood Saz here, coming to you live from Tarragona, that would be on the South coast of Spain for all you non geography types. Yup, ole Sazza is sitting here supping Cevesa enjoying the sand, sea, sun, sangria and senoritas!
 ST: More wrestler ramblings
By Saz on 22 July 2007
I mentioned in the UK scene that I think that British wrestling is beginning to carve out a niche of its own, separate to the direct influence of the Americans. There will always be influence of course, that can’t be denied a good idea that works should always be used and the great thing about the [...]
