ST: Inspiration

Wrestling 101 UK Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

Sometimes looking at other things that go on in life can really inspire you to go on and try to do great things. Funnily enough it usually tends to be one of the arts that does it for people and I have to admit I have recently got the bug.

I am looking forward to this year’s wrestling, my passion for the business has only increased and I hope I will end this year with a better knowledge of the business as, perhaps, I might end the year actually running a show, just once, just to see what it is like and report it to you.

The things I do for you eh?

I am also looking forward to working closer with the hard working guys here at wrestling 101, Adam and I have had a few preliminary chats about what we want to achieve this year and we have come up with similar ideas. So hopefully the UK scene will expand to serve the wrestlers and the fans alike.

After my holiday I have returned to the UK with a fresh vigour, a little more weight to burn off in the gym but an ever burning passion to get in that gym and work on my abilities.

And I have Michael Stipe to thank, yup, the lead singer of R.E.M. because while I was in Italy, I popped over to Milan to see R.E.M. in concert and I just stood in wonder at Stipe. You see the man’s dancing is well, a little made up, but it is done with passion and he gets away with it because you detect that he dances to the music he plays to because he believes in the product he is performing to us.

This got me thinking on the coach ride back that to believe utterly in what you are doing then it begins to show. So this year I am going to take care and pride with my matches, to have the audience either with me or against me.

This is a challenge I relish for this year as well as to work with many of the great workers that put themselves on the line for your entertainment.

It is a shame that a lot of people don’t consider UK shows against sitting at home and watching WWE on the TV, I think that sometimes people miss a lot of the live action through the TV, there is so much to show and there is nothing like feeling the air vibrating to a powerslam.

The other thing I find a shame is that people not allowing anything to improve, I have seen many examples of, all I can describe it is, staunch fans. It can work on anything, someone goes to a bad show and then will only have the opinion that the UK scene is bad, a wrestler has a bad day, or is inexperienced and then they are thought of as crap. It is a flaw in human society that hits home in many walks of life.

So I ask, if you read this but don’t go to shows, give one a go, or look at that wrestler again, give the New Year a chance to show how much federations and wrestlers have developed.

I’ll be 30 this year, I’ve had enough of the backstabbing crap as well, I know I said something once which I regret and I will work to treat everyone as my equal in the ring. So I’m just going to reside this year in the gym and in a sense of being, if someone takes issue with me then that is up to them. There is no point in defending myself to anyone who doesn’t want to listen, not that I am saying that anyone has taken cumbrance with me.

Apart from that slight depressing note it looks like a lot of UK promotions have pulled the stops out to try bring quality to audiences, so please give the UK scene a chance again. I am going to support as many federations as I can.

Plus if you are in Wales and going to a show, you might just see me, but not know it!

Have a good one!

Saracen

ST: Do not talk to me about fake
By Saz on 6 January 2008
There’s a saying in wrestling. The person who says that wrestling is fake knows nothing about wrestling at all. Say fake to people like Chris Benoit whose “fake” concussions turned him insane, say fake to Sid whose leg broke in half after the merest of falls, say fake to every single wrestler who has been through agony [...]
ST: What does TV do for the UK Scene?
By Saz on 27 November 2007
Being a professional wrestler can be such an enjoyable experience, yet, sometimes such a frustrating one. There is that old school opinion that wrestling is built from respect and that your time and your actions deserve the opportunities that you get. I know my place in the scheme of things, I have my rung on the [...]
ST: Time to get the attitude right
By Saz on 22 September 2007
You know, when I came back from Spain, a few things dawned on me. The first being how stuck up our own arses we Brits are. Bear with me on this, I am going somewhere with this.
 ST: Viva l?Espania!

Howdo, Your friendly neighbourhood Saz here, coming to you live from Tarragona, that would be on the South coast of Spain for all you non geography types. Yup, ole Sazza is sitting here supping Cevesa enjoying the sand, sea, sun, sangria and senoritas!
 ST: More wrestler ramblings
By Saz on 22 July 2007
I mentioned in the UK scene that I think that British wrestling is beginning to carve out a niche of its own, separate to the direct influence of the Americans. There will always be influence of course, that can’t be denied a good idea that works should always be used and the great thing about the [...]
