ST: Disappointment and sheer anger

I know from personal experience that, when you have set your mind to doing a wrestling show, it is the worst thing in the world when something happens that prevents you from getting into that ring and entertaining people.

From having people not turn up to the venue being double booked, it can happen to any promoter and wrestler alike and the feeling is crushing, it is possibly the last decision you want to make as a promoter and the last thing you want to hear as a wrestler.

So I really felt for ACW when, with everything set for a decent looking show, the whole of Bedfordshire has a powercut. The worst thing in that situation is, people letting you down you can solve, ring doesn’t turn up you can solve that, but when the power company fails you there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

So I can understand the frustration of the ACW promoters and the disappointment of the wrestlers too. It wasn’t all a loss though, I had the chance to meet a few wrestlers I have read about, forced Turkish Delight on MTX and caught up on the gossip in the wrestling world.

I’ll catch them again sometime soon though.

Onto other matters, I usually don’t talk about what is going on “behind the scenes” of the wrestling world, but I felt I had to mention this as it is important to all the promotions out there to know. I’m sure the message has most likely got to them already, but it is best to make sure.

At the moment a promoter is being sued by a wrestler for injuries received whilst wrestling.

Take time to read that statement again.

As ludicrous as this sounds, a person who, at worst, works as a “Sports entertainer” and is trained to take serious falls, bumps and knocks, a person who gets into a wrestling ring with people who will perform all matter of moves on them seems to think that the promoter is to blame for any accident that might occur.

Now any wrestler who has any shred of self worth will concede that when they step into a wrestling ring with an opponent, they risk injury. I fell out of a ring and smacked my elbow on a strut sticking out of the ring, did I complain? No, it was my own stupid bloody fault for falling out of the ring!

To compound matters it seems that this wrestler begged to be on the show he was hurt on.

It should be known that, contrary to the U.S. influenced urban myths we Brits are saturated with, there are a lot of shoot wrestlers in the UK, they WILL hit you, they will punish you and you have to be big enough to take it. You get into the wrestling ring you have to take responsibility for yourself.

Some wrestlers wonder why the UK scene is suffering, it is because we have public schoolboy-esque fops running around thinking they are a professional wrestler, then, when they actually meet one, cry foul!

I think this issue should encourage every promoter to make wrestlers who perform in their shows to sign a form acknowledging that they enter the ring at their own risk.

And let a bit of common sense return to this country!

Training has been going well, as is the beard growing, I’ve been asked to grow it for a show, not 100% sure why they want me looking like a woodcutter, but It’s just facial hair and I can shave it off later. However the itching is really starting to bother me!

I’ve also been helped by everyone at the K-Star gym to do something that I really shouldn’t be able to do. But then again, there is no reason why I can’t do it, as I learnt, it is just a question of trusting yourself and your body.

To see the results you will have to see me at KSW’s next show, cheap plug? Nah, not really, I’m just really excited about making a solid stride forward in my ability.

Anyhoo, time for me to get some work done.

All the best,

Saracen

ST: Do not talk to me about fake
By Saz on 6 January 2008
There’s a saying in wrestling. The person who says that wrestling is fake knows nothing about wrestling at all. Say fake to people like Chris Benoit whose “fake” concussions turned him insane, say fake to Sid whose leg broke in half after the merest of falls, say fake to every single wrestler who has been through agony [...]
ST: What does TV do for the UK Scene?
By Saz on 27 November 2007
Being a professional wrestler can be such an enjoyable experience, yet, sometimes such a frustrating one. There is that old school opinion that wrestling is built from respect and that your time and your actions deserve the opportunities that you get. I know my place in the scheme of things, I have my rung on the [...]
ST: Time to get the attitude right

You know, when I came back from Spain, a few things dawned on me. The first being how stuck up our own arses we Brits are. Bear with me on this, I am going somewhere with this.

Howdo, Your friendly neighbourhood Saz here, coming to you live from Tarragona, that would be on the South coast of Spain for all you non geography types. Yup, ole Sazza is sitting here supping Cevesa enjoying the sand, sea, sun, sangria and senoritas!
 ST: More wrestler ramblings
By Saz on 22 July 2007
I mentioned in the UK scene that I think that British wrestling is beginning to carve out a niche of its own, separate to the direct influence of the Americans. There will always be influence of course, that can’t be denied a good idea that works should always be used and the great thing about the [...]
