I’m sitting here trying to get rid of this fever I seemed to have picked up recently, blanket wrapped around me, so it’s a little hard to type. I think the worrying thing for me is that it has compounded a story that was passed to me by a work colleague.

Apparently the MRSA bug, the one that always gets people in hospitals is now spreading to gyms and in particular contact sports like wrestling. Now, seeing as I have probably picked this fever up from one of the guys in the gym, I can see the potential harm that this could cause.

Wrestlers are notoriously hygienic people, but apparently MRSA bug spreads through wounds, this could mean that the risks of the wrestler have just increased.

I had a great time at KSW Wrestlefest on the 19th, the room was packed to its safety capacity and the atmosphere was electric in there. I have been persuaded to use a gimmick given to me by Jack Taylor, so Saracen as a wrestler is probably no more; but then again it is advantageous to me that I keep a separate online personality to my backstage personality.

Anyhoo, I have been practising my top rope work, which for someone of my size and weight, you can imagine, wasn’t an easy task, however, with the help of the guys at the gym I managed to do it.

Ok, I’m not the most graceful of wrestlers at the top, but the audience went wild when I leaped from the top rope to perform a frog splash on my opponent. It was definitely an achievement for me and proof that I am developing my skills within wrestling.

It is a great desire of mine to have a broad set of skills so I can become a diverse wrestler, so that I can fit in any style of show, I think if I will be honest, my technical ability lets me down slightly at the moment, so I will be looking to improve upon that this year.

I think another thing that hit home to me was that despite the importance of an Internet community as a whole, they are never there to share a moment with you. The fan who pays his ticket and cheers or boos you is the only person of importance to a wrestler.

That may be a bitter pill to swallow sitting there reading me say that, all I can do is apologise, but I think I can safely say that a wrestler promotes himself in the ring, not on the net.

However, I am the first to defend the Internet wrestling community, I think for one, the speculation and the interest alone keeps British wrestling ticking along.

However, the fact still remains with the Internet that anyone can write anything at anytime and there will always be someone there to believe what they have just read. At University I was told that whenever I took information from the web I had to justify it and prove it, not only by finding concurring stories, but to also find the arguments as the Internet is full of opinions and very rarely cold hard fact.

But there are little gems, like ukworkers.net and our very own UK Scene here on Wrestling101 that try to benefit the scene. Actually I was sent a couple of emails asking me why I hadn’t put myself on Ukworkers, the simple answer is that I have been a wrestler for just over a year, I don’t consider myself in the least ready to offer my talents for external work. I do work outside of KSW, but usually it is a learning experience for me, as opposed to me getting the job done and being paid for it.

So maybe in another 3 or so years…

All the best.

Saracen

ST: Do not talk to me about fake
By Saz on 6 January 2008
There’s a saying in wrestling. The person who says that wrestling is fake knows nothing about wrestling at all. Say fake to people like Chris Benoit whose “fake” concussions turned him insane, say fake to Sid whose leg broke in half after the merest of falls, say fake to every single wrestler who has been through agony [...]
ST: What does TV do for the UK Scene?
By Saz on 27 November 2007
Being a professional wrestler can be such an enjoyable experience, yet, sometimes such a frustrating one. There is that old school opinion that wrestling is built from respect and that your time and your actions deserve the opportunities that you get. I know my place in the scheme of things, I have my rung on the [...]
ST: Time to get the attitude right
By Saz on 22 September 2007
You know, when I came back from Spain, a few things dawned on me. The first being how stuck up our own arses we Brits are. Bear with me on this, I am going somewhere with this.

Howdo, Your friendly neighbourhood Saz here, coming to you live from Tarragona, that would be on the South coast of Spain for all you non geography types. Yup, ole Sazza is sitting here supping Cevesa enjoying the sand, sea, sun, sangria and senoritas!
 ST: More wrestler ramblings

I mentioned in the UK scene that I think that British wrestling is beginning to carve out a niche of its own, separate to the direct influence of the Americans. There will always be influence of course, that can’t be denied a good idea that works should always be used and the great thing about the [...]
