UK Scene #201

Wrestling 101 UK Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

Welcome to a new year and issue 201 of the UK Scene, this is a quiet period for wrestling, where all the wrestlers begin to burn off that Christmas pud and advertising begins for the upcoming shows.

So let's take a look at what we have this week.

First starting off with the devastating news that the NBW ring van was damaged beyond repair by vandals over the Christmas period.

So what? I hear you cry, well, not only is the NBW show on January 13th (probably not the best day to put on a show mind) there are a lot of companies that rely on NBW's ring for their shows and the shortage of the very, very good ring (Yes, I know from personal experience), means that there may be a ring shortage for groups without a ring as an asset.

This could mean shows all over the country may be cancelled, which is not good for the UK Scene.

Let's hope they get a new motor sorted and soon!

Wrestling is coming to the Isle of Wight with "Best of British : Invasion" to be held at the Winter Gardens on the Isle of Wight on Thursday February 16th.

The best news is the return of Sweet Saraya to the wrestling ring, this is the first time I've heard "officially" that she is ok. So that's a good thing!

Tickets are Ringside £15, other seats are Adults £10, Children/Concessions £8 and Family Saver £30 (2 Adults & 2 Children).

Celtic Wrestling will be heading to The Studio Bar in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales on Saturday January 28th. To bring a show entitled "Anger Management".

Current card:

  • The Workman's Open Invitational Challenge
  • The UK Freebirds (Maddog Maxx Blassey & Jonny the Body Costello) vs. Elpsycho & Kade Callous
  • Steve Bassey vs. Frankie Sharp
  • Thomas Bassey vs. Ricky Hype
  • Caiman vs. Chris Recall
  • Matt Vaughn vs. Tyler Browne

Tickets are £5 and are available at the door. Doors open at 6:30pm and bell time is 7:30pm.

LPW have announced the full card for their next show to be held on Friday January 20th at the Royal British Legion Club in Syston, Leicestershire.

Card is:

  • Imperial Dragon vs. S C Supreme
  • John Bull (c) vs. Stixx
  • Toker vs. Surf Digby
  • Samurai vs. Ethan Hayze
  • Rohnin vs. Scott Grimm
  • Mad Mike (c) vs. Ironman Chris Stone

Tickets are £5 Adults and £3 Children. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.

IPW:UK have announced "No Escape" to be held at the Orpington Hall in Orpington, Kent on January 28th.

Current card reads:

  • Martin Stone (c) vs. ‘The Phoenix’ Jody Fleisch
  • Spud vs. ‘Sadistic’ Jack Storm
  • Andy Boy Simmonz vs. ‘The Wonderkid’ Jonny Storm
  • AK47 (Ashe & Kris Linnell) (c) vs. The Southern Alliance (‘The Gift’ Ross Jordan & Chris Wyld)
  • Leroy Kincaide vs. ‘The Human Hate Machine’ Dave Moralez
  • Ashley Reed (w/ Donna) vs. Paul Robinson
  • Battalion vs. JC Thunder

Tickets are £20 ringside, other seats are £12 adults, £6 children, and £30 for family ticket. Doors open at 6pm and bell time is 6:30pm.

CPW announced that "A Quest For Destiny" will be held at the Good Counsel GAA Club in Drimnagh, Dublin, Ireland on Saturday January 28th.

Current card reads:

  • Joey Cabray vs David Dunn
  • Alex Breslin vs. Anthony Idol
  • Stevie Lynn (c) vs. Blake Norton

Tickets are €10. Doors open at 7pm and bell time is 7:30pm.

3CW have released details of their first show of 2006, which includes an interesting story arc, this surrounds their third annual "3 For All" show, held on Saturday January 21st at the Tower Club in Middlesbrough.

The show will feature a Royal Rumble main event where the winner will number one contendership for the title, however, the winner is able to ask for their shot at anytime during 2006.

Interesting stuff, it will hopefully keep the audience guessing as to when the winner will "play their Joker" so to speak.

Tickets are £5 Adults, £4 Children/OAP's, and £15 Family ticket (at least two children). Doors open at 7pm and bell time is 7:30pm.

Things have been more than interesting for FCW at the turn of the year, head referee Joel "Affro" Allen (yes 1PW fans, THAT affro) is looking at tape evidence when masked trainee Zoel Power was alleged to have been eliminated by the official, but he was in fact (I do know because I was there) he had been thrown between the ropes.

Now personally the ref made his decision and Zoel should also be reprimanded for striking an official as FCW were quick to reprimand John Kirkham for his behaviour in the ring, the wrestler known as GBH has been struck off the roster for his part in an incident that, if we are going to be 100% fair, Manipulated and cajoled into his actions by the unscrupulous Danny D.

Eventual winner of the FCW contract was Brett Banner, who I must say, stood out well above the others as a professional wrestler.

But that was the past, what does the future hold for FCW?

They have announced their latest show, entitled "Back To The Future", which will be held at the Baggeridge Social Welfare Centre in Lower Gornal on Sunday January 29th.

Current card:

  • Rob Hunter vs. Dragon Phoenix
  • Celt Kennedy vs. Spud
  • BB Steele vs. Kevin O'Neil

Tickets are £5 each or a party ticket for 4 people costs £17. Doors will open at 7:00pm, and the show will start at 7:45pm.

Just as a note, if you lovely wrestling peeps give me a wrestling storyline to work with, I will work with it!

TXW (Triple X Wrestling) seem to be the new kids on the block with a new show that is marked "not for the kids". They have announce their first show in "The Dog and Trumpet" on Saturday 4th February.

Card includes:

  • Edgar Stryfe and Jetta both in action for the first time since picking up injuries over the summer.
  • SWA’s Adam Shame, Quentin Hyde-Styles, Stiro, ‘Fan boy’ Andy Krae and Imperial Dragon.
  • NWA-UK Junior Heavyweight Champion Zak Sabre Jr.
  • Triple X wrestling is also proud to announce that none other than Majik will be in action on this show.

Looks an interesting show for people looking for something a little more extreme.

I know Imperial Dragon is a great worker as I've been up against him and he is a pleasure to work with, I've also been up against Andy Krae as well, I've seen Quentin Hyde-Styles in action and he's always impressed me, one of the scene's true hard cases!

Check this one out if hardcore is your thang, it's certainly a company to rival Total Bloodsport Wrestling!

KSW commissioner Steve Logan is hoping that 2006 will be a year of growth and has announced the first King of the Ring tournament for 2 years.

KSW King of the Ring will take place at the Yew Tree Sports and Social Club, Brackendale Drive, Yew Tree Estate, Walsall on 18th February 2006.

Sal Americana is confirmed to be taking part after Logan decreed that Sal had taken the KSW championship belt from Cameron Steele without sanction, but as Cameron Steele challenged Sal, his taking of the belt was deemed "legal".

However, Steve Logan has insisted that Sal defend his title at the King of the Ring.

Another wrestler confirmed is Carl Mizzery, whose good record within the event may hold him in good stead as show below (taken from the KSW website).

Previous Kings of KSW
1999 - Jodi Fleisch
2000 - Carl Corporate (Mizzery)
2001 - Carl Corporate (Mizzery)
2002 - GBH
2003 - Carl Mizzery
2004 / 2005 - N/A

Can't really say much to this really, I joined KSW end of 2003, so this is the first tournament run whilst I have been there.

Well, that is me done for this week, hope to see you soon with more exciting news and storylines from the UK Scene.

ST: Do not talk to me about fake
By Saz on 6 January 2008
There’s a saying in wrestling. The person who says that wrestling is fake knows nothing about wrestling at all. Say fake to people like Chris Benoit whose “fake” concussions turned him insane, say fake to Sid whose leg broke in half after the merest of falls, say fake to every single wrestler who has been through agony [...]
ST: What does TV do for the UK Scene?
By Saz on 27 November 2007
Being a professional wrestler can be such an enjoyable experience, yet, sometimes such a frustrating one. There is that old school opinion that wrestling is built from respect and that your time and your actions deserve the opportunities that you get. I know my place in the scheme of things, I have my rung on the [...]

You know, when I came back from Spain, a few things dawned on me. The first being how stuck up our own arses we Brits are. Bear with me on this, I am going somewhere with this.

Howdo, Your friendly neighbourhood Saz here, coming to you live from Tarragona, that would be on the South coast of Spain for all you non geography types. Yup, ole Sazza is sitting here supping Cevesa enjoying the sand, sea, sun, sangria and senoritas!
 ST: More wrestler ramblings
By Saz on 22 July 2007
I mentioned in the UK scene that I think that British wrestling is beginning to carve out a niche of its own, separate to the direct influence of the Americans. There will always be influence of course, that can’t be denied a good idea that works should always be used and the great thing about the [...]
