United State of Wrestling #10

10 June 2005

Wrestling 101 US Scene RSS Feed | Feeds

This. Is. Extreme. When those words ring out in the Hammerstein Ballroom this coming Sunday, it will spark an evening of memories and nostalgia for many old ECW supporters and hopefully give many people, who may never have seen ECW, the opportunity to see what all the fuss was about.

I am going to give full marks to the WWE for their handling of the One Night Stand PPV, for they have produced some entertaining build up for the event (especially on Raw) and apparently the whole event is going to be pulled off without a WWE logo in sight.

Rumors are rife that there will be limited camera angles to give the old-style feel and with the New York crowd being the only one that could match the Philly passion and voice, this Sunday looks like it could be one of the best in a long time.

Hopefully, the PPV will be as good as I am anticipating and who knows, maybe more shows will be staged in the near future. I can’t see why Heat and Velocity can’t be merged into a two-hour ECW TV show on a Saturday night for example. If Vince writes the cheques and Paul Heyman books, given the right publicity, it could make the McMahon’s even richer.

Moving on, I don’t know about anyone else, but the Triple H v Batista feud is starting to bore the pants off me. The build up in late 2004/early 2005 was magnificent, but ever since WrestleMania 21, it has been down hill all the way.

Unfortunately, big Dave has proved that whilst capable of some good matches, he is not capable of having great, main-event style matches. Triple H for his part, has been excellent on the mic, but these Triple H main-event feuds every single month are really grating me now.

Quite possibly the most watchable thing this feud has produced in the last month is Triple H’s beard which appears to have a life of it’s own. Every week seems to produce a different looking patch of facial fluff.

The draft is upon us, and without dishing out any spoilers on what has already happened, it looks set to be an impactful one this year. Last year’s was rather wishy-washy if you recall, with such major names as Chuck Palumbo being drafted.

If it was up to me, as I have said before I would restructure both shows. Why not just have the champions being saved and then the chance that every name could move? It would be quite engaging. Instead a ‘lottery’ held over a month, whilst dragging it out longer in the hope of sustained high ratings, will lose the excitement after a couple of weeks.

Just a short United State this week as I have been rushed off my feet again at work, so my apologies, but enjoy One Night Stand and I’ll give you my thoughts on the show on Tuesday.

CBlog XXVIII- No Mercy, RAW and Cyber Sunday
By Cassidy Haslett on 8 October 2008
I know it’s been a little while since I’ve done a blog, but I’m back to give my thoughts on No Mercy, RAW, and the upcoming Cyber Sunday pay-per-view on October 26 (which, coincidentally, is CM Punk’s birthday and he is also the featured star on the poster). Let’s start with this past Sunday’s No Mercy [...]
CBlog XXVII- RAW, SmackDown and No Mercy
By Cassidy Haslett on 18 September 2008
I did not post a blog last week because I did not feel that RAW was really worth posting a blog about. It was okay, but nothing much to discuss. This week, there is a bit more to discuss and I also wanted to provide my thoughts on SmackDown and the current line-up for No [...]
CBlog XXVI- Thoughts on WWE Unforgiven 2008
By Cassidy Haslett on 9 September 2008
The 10′th WWE Unforgiven in Cleveland was just awesome and worth the $39.95 I paid. Sure, every match was not great, but I look at the overall when I judge a pay-per-view. Here are my thoughts on Unforgiven:
CBlog XXV- WWE RAW, Rey and Unforgiven
By Cassidy Haslett on 2 September 2008
RAW was average to me this week. Granted, it may have been better had there not been spoilers on every single wrestling site or in every wrestling email I got after RAW was taped this past Sunday. It was nice to see Randy Orton make an appearance on RAW, even though it would have been [...]
CBlog XXIV- WWE RAW, Unforgiven & Cena?s Injury
By Cassidy Haslett on 26 August 2008
Let me start off with the unfortunate news - John Cena has a severely herniated disc in his neck and will require surgery, leaving him out of action, indefinitely. The probability of him making another early return seems very unlikely. With Cena gone from television for who knows how long, I for one will certainly [...]
