Undertaker UMD

Length: 140 mins

Cert: 18

Since his debut in 1990 the Undertaker has dominated the WWE, in this UMD version of the history of some of his finer moments, we take a look at what the portable media player has to offer you as a wrestling fan.

Due for release in November, Tombstone: History of the Undertaker has potential to attract many generations of fans. The Undertaker has been involved in some of the most memorable wrestling moments in the history of WWE spanning now what is an impressive 15 year career.

This UMD is designed to give you an abridged version of events laid out in the DVD version.

Chapters

  • WWE Championship match VS HULK - Survivor Series 11/27/91
  • VS. Kane - Wrestlemania XIV 03/29/98
  • Hell in a cell match VS. Mankind - King of the Ring 06/28/98
  • First Blood match for the WWE Championship VS. Stone Cold - Fully loaded 07/25/99
  • VS. Kane Wrestlemania XX - 02/14/04

Interface

The PSP leads us into the mood of the undertaker by changing it's menu system to the blue colour and plays a version of the Undertaker music from 1998 as well as bringing up a picture of the UMD's Logo and a video montage for this film.

Highs and Lows

The choice of matches are pretty good picks save the last, important wins over celebrities and the career making match with Mick Foley really pass over the feeling that the Undertaker has achieved something with his career.

The simplicity of how it is all set out compliments the ethos for the PSP, you can put this down and do something else and come back to it later without missing a beat. The introduction and voice over history is good, if a little rushed and you cannot select it from the chapter menu, you have to play it through to hear about the wrestler's career.

My biggest gripe is that it jumps too much history, as you can probably see by the chapters above, a good 7 years is cut out and not explained. For instance we saw that the Undertaker teamed up with Jake the Snake Roberts and caused misery for Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth, but we didn't see the conclusion to that.

I understand that there is a lot of history to fit in, but even just mentioning it with short clips would have been worthwhile to make the thing seem complete.

However, that isn't completely amiss, they manage to "forget" about the whole biker gimmick which to hardcore Undertaker fans will be a huge relief!

My only other gripe is the cost, despite the quality of matches (which dips when it gets to Wrestlemania XX) you pay £13.99 for five matches.

UMD Extras

  • Undertaker attacks Hulk Hogan at the Funeral Parlor
  • Undertaker builds a casket for Yokozuna
  • Undertaker in the graveyard talking about Diesel
  • Undertaker in the graveyard talking about Mankind
  • Undertaker interrupts Mankind's interview
  • Undertaker vs. Bret Hart

Overall

Impressive selection of matches towards the beginning of the undertaker's career but after the Hell in a cell match things begin to slow down. The real problem with this UMD is the feeling that there is so much more to tell, but even with some quality matches, it cannot justify the price asked for it.
