Following in the footsteps of previous releases focusing on the WWE and Intercontinental Championships, this retrospective look back on the history of the World Heavyweight Championship, a title that, arguably, runs from the belt around the waist of Undertaker at the moment (this review was written pre-Elimination Chamber, so it may be on someone else by the time you read this), back to the early days of the NWA... some say even further back than that, all the way to the Frank Gotch/George Hackenschmidt at the turn of the century.

What do you think of when you hear Hell in a Cell? Does your mind automatically go back to June 1998 and the immortalised image of Mankind being hurled from the structure through the commentary table as Jim Ross makes the greatest call in pro-wrestling history? Or is your primary recollection that of the inaugural HiaC bout featuring Shawn Michaels and Undertaker tearing the house down in October of 1997?

Like the previous month's Extreme Rules, WWE tweaked the name of 2009's event, removing the words Great and American and leaving us with a PPV simply called The Bash. I actually prefer the new title (reasons for the alteration are rumoured, but the one I believe is to do with making the event more palatable to the overseas markets) and think is simply rolls better off the tongue...

The first thing that went through my mind when this retrospective look at WCW was originally announced was how great a job WWE had done with The Rise & Fall of ECW. If they could put out such a polished and well-researched look back at a small-time promotion that reached heights no-one ever thought it could, just imagine what they could do with a promotion going back decades. The sad fact is that The Rise & Fall of WCW falls way, way, way short of its ECW equivalent... and that's a crying shame...

May 9th, 2002 was the day that Dave Batista made his WWE debut as the bodyguard for D-Von Dudley. His physique got him noticed, but there have been hundreds of large muscular men to show up and impress with their physical stature, only to disappear into the night having amounted to nothing. Over seven years later, it's safe to say that “The Animal” didn't fall into that trap...

A lot of people will have written off 12 Rounds simply on the basis it's from WWE Studios. Others, unaware of Vince's non-wrestling project, will simply dismiss it because it stars “that wrestler guy”. These assertions are unfair, as it creates a judgemental attitude before the opening credits have begun running...

This was always going to be a hugely ambitious project and, in this case, it doesn't quite come off. The first issue is with the hosts, Miz & Morrison. Now, don't get me wrong, both guys are great talkers and were a fantastic team, but that's the problem, they WERE a fantastic team. Having a collection centred around the greatest tag teams of all time hosted by a team no longer together just doesn't seem to sit right...

Smackdown, the WWE “B” show, reaches double-digits and the company is going all out to celebrate that fact. As I write this, the special broadcast of the show is getting set to air this Friday, the latest video game to carry the name is due to be in stores in three weeks time and, in my hand, I have this, a three-disc look back at the top 100 moments in the show's history...

A lot of people are dismissive of the “B-level” pay-per-views, but you usually get at least two or three good bouts and a few decent ones as well. Judgement Day 2009, on paper, looks to have one of the better cards for a non-Big Four event. The Chicago crowd also deserve a heap of credit for being up for it pretty much from the first blast of the opening pyro...

Wrestlemania, the biggest show in the wrestling calendar, is the official year end for WWE. It's where everything comes to a head, where all the talent want to be showcased and where the biggest matches take place. To highlight this, the show opens with a brilliantly put together video package that puts across the magnitude of the event, featuring the performers talking about watching the early 'Manias and letting us know which match was their personal highlight, before cutting to previews of the bouts on this year's card. I actually had goosebumps during some of the historic footage...
