NEW FRONTIERS – THE FULL PREVIEW

Saturday, February 26 at the Broxbourne Civic Hall, Hoddesdon, Herts

Box Office Number – 01992 441946

‘The Showstealer’ Alex Shane v ‘The Wonderkid’ Jonny Storm
FWA British Heavyweight Championship Match.

As has become traditional over the past three years, New Frontiers is where the FWA’s new year begins, with the promise of new matches, new feuds, new stars and a new direction. And when it comes to new matches, they don’t come any fresher than Alex Shane versus Jonny Storm.

Shane and Storm have so many similarities. They are arguably the two most charismatic, outspoken and controversial stars in UK wrestling.  They turned pro within months of each other in the mid-90s.  They were both in NWA:UK Hammerlock during their early years, they both entered the FWA at around the same time and in fact Alex Shane is often fond of telling people that it was he who actually persuaded Jonny Storm to leave Hammerlock and join the FWA.  But despite all these similarities, there is one thing Shane and Storm do not have in common. Until Saturday night, ‘The Showstealer’ and ‘The Wonderkid’ have never, ever met in a singles match.

This should be an intriguing championship battle.  Shane certainly has the advantage in size and strength, but Storm certainly dominates the speed category and may even have the edge over the cunning champion in the ‘ring smarts’ department.   Both are extremely confident, Shane having successfully negotiated for British Title matches to be best of one fall and managed to get Ulf Herman banned from the building, and is said to have beefed up his personal security presence in preparation for this match.  But Jonny Storm, with equal confidence, vacated the XPW European Title to concentrate solely on the bigger prize and has a chance to win the British Title, under new rulings, should the champion be disqualified.

Alex Shane and Jonny Storm will sign their final contracts for the match at a special press conference, starting at 3pm at Broxbourne Civic Hall on the day. They will then indulge in a face-to-face interview, hosted by ‘Hardcore’ John Atkins, which should be very interesting as neither of these men is ever short of things to say.  Admission to this press conference is £4.50 on the door.

Speaking of the XPW belt, in late-breaking news, Jonny Storm contacted www.frontierwrestling.com today to promise the FWA fans that he will be bringing his infamous XPW European Title briefcase to Broxbourne and finally, after failing to do so during the whole of his championship reign, will open the case and show the contents to the crowd, by way of tribute to the vacated title.

Special Announcement by ‘The Phoenix’ Jody Fleisch
Ever since Jody Fleisch told FWA officials that he wanted to make a special announcement at New Frontiers, our reporters have been trying to find out what he’s going to say.  We even telephoned Jody at his home this week to try to prise this information out of him.  However, ‘The Phoenix’ is keeping tight-lipped.  We will all simply have to wait until the night of New Frontiers to find out.

‘The South City Thrilla’ Hade Vansen v Spud
FWA All-England Championship Match
The main controversy surrounding this match is Hade’s perceived jealousy of his number one contender Spud, ever since Spud was booked in a quality match against Jonny Storm, Chris Sabin and Petey Williams at the prestigious TWC Supershow – set for Coventry SkyDome on March 19 - an event Hade has not been invited to.

‘The South City Thrilla’, who already holds contempt for the Pocket Dynamo after Spud eliminated him from the Gold Rush, had some choice words to say on the subject to Daily Star reporter Patrick Lennon a couple of weeks ago.  “He’s got to realise that I’ve been in the FWA for four years, laying the foundation for guys like him to come in and do their thing…” moaned ‘The Thrilla’.  Spud has been silent on the subject of the TWC Supershow, preferring to take one match at a time and concentrate on this golden opportunity to win UK wrestling’s secondary belt in only his fourth FWA main show appearance.  What a story it would be.

The Zebra Kid v Chris Hero

One man returns, the other debuts.  The Zebra Kid requested a tough comeback opponent as a means of catharsis after his problems last year and they don’t come tougher than the former CZW Iron Man Champion and one of the true exponents of ‘strong style’ wrestling in the world today, Chris Hero.

With Zebra’s father Ricky Knight, now apparently re-united with his son after their violent war of 2004, and his stepmother Sweet Saraya in the crowd giving him support, the Zebra Kid feels he has a lot to prove to himself, the family and also to the fans.  ZK also has no idea how the FWA faithful will react to him against a popular opponent like Hero and this must surely add to the pressure on his shoulders.  We will see how the hard-hitter from Norwich deals with what promises to be an epic, gruelling and possibly emotional encounter.

James Tighe and Mark ‘Five Star’ Belton v Aviv Maayan and Ross Jordan

James Tighe is obsessed with making Aviv Maayan tap out, after failing to do so at Gold Rush.  This time, he has enlisted the help of his partner-in-crime Mark Belton, a fellow scientific and submission wrestler par excellence, in his quest to force the Red Dragon to give up to the Texas Cloverleaf.  Maayan is equally determined not only not to quit, but also to join forces with his fellow high-flyer Ross Jordan to cause an upset.

The First Ever FWA Open Door Invitational

Ten young men will enter the FWA ring at the Broxbourne Civic Hall for the very first time.  For two of them, it will be the biggest night in their wrestling careers, because they will get to fight for the first time on a main FWA show.  But who gets to wrestle?  You, the FWA fans, will decide!

The entrants to the Open Door Invitational are the cream of the unsigned British talent from around the country.  The two who receive the loudest reaction from the Broxbourne crowd, as judged by an independent adjudicator who will be introduced at the show, will get to wrestle each other later in the evening.  The contestants are, in alphabetical order:

‘The Raging Bull’ TJ Cain
Throwback tough guy from Wigan, a well-schooled and no-nonsense grappler who holds a win over CZW Junior Heavyweight Champion Mike Quackenbush and one of the top stars for his home promotion GPW.

Heresy
A thinking man’s brawler, this Blackpool native is an enigmatic and devious individual who is never lost for words.  Most at home when quoting the bible, the ‘Prophet’ is the most hated man in GPW.

Jamie Idol
Trained by Steve Knight, this high-flyer from Hull shot to prominence when he teamed with Spud in an exciting match against The UK Pitbulls on an edition of UK Round-Up late last year.  IWP regular is short in stature but big in heart and talent.

‘The Golden Boy’ Cameron Knite
Talented, risk-taking heart-throb from Wolverhampton whose over-the-top rope somersault plancha is as suicidal as they come.  A regular for many UK promotions, Knite impressed on his one FWA appearance to date.

Johnny Phere
The Public Enemy Number One’ is intensity and aggression personified.  Warrington-based star gave Burchill a tough time in his only FWA appearance last year and specialises in all-out brawls.  His tantrums are legendary.

Dragon Phoenix
170lb dynamo from Birmingham is a regular for FCW, RBW and IPW:UK.  Charismatic, wacky and fun-loving, the Dragon is a frequent flyer who loves to use the Swanton Bomb.

‘Superstar’ Tony Sefton
The self-professed Superstar from Orpington in Kent is making waves as a popular hometown hero in IPW:UK but is also extremely self-assured, often cocky.  Versatile performer who is as comfortable in the air as on the mat.

Jack Storm
Well-known for his rivalry with fellow Brummie Spud, Jack has experience on the big stage after appearing in a British Uprising 3 dark match.  A real all-rounder with power, technical skills and a sadistic streak if necessary.

JC Thunder
Arrogant, well-groomed technician from Sheffield is in demand all over the UK.  Regularly imitates the moves of other famous wrestlers.  A confident talker and a smooth in-ring performer.

Max Voltage
One of the standout young talents from the FWA Academy in Portsmouth. Trained by Mark Sloan, this exciting flyweight is the master of the devastating Max Factor move and a human highlight reel in the ring.

Hopefully this brief list of the 10 Open Door Invitational candidates has helped you make your mind up on which two you would like to see compete on Saturday night.  Remember – 10 men enter, eight men go home.  Who gets to wrestle?  You decide!

The Duke of Danger and Simmons v Declan O’Connor and Joey Hayes

After Simmons was forced to miss FWA Gold Rush following a serious chest infection brought on by cystic fibrosis, a condition he has had since birth, Hampton Court asked for a tune-up match to ease the butler back into in-ring competition.  The FWA Tag Team Champions will face the Manchester debutants of O’Connor and Hayes, who are confident and not just coming to Broxbourne to make up the numbers.

Jack Xavier v Leroy Kincade
Final Eliminator for the All-England Championship

This could be Jack Xavier’s last chance to earn a shot at the All-England Title he covets so dearly.  His opponent is Leroy Kincade, one of Alex Shane’s Security members, who has been on something of a roll of late.  Xavier suffered an unprovoked and as yet, unsolved backstage attack at Gold Rush, which left him with a hairline skull fracture.  He will undergo a routine fitness check on the night of the show, but expects to be fit to wrestle and when he does, expect the Brummie Bad Boy to hold nothing back in pursuit of his goal.

‘The Specialist’ Mark Sloan v Stevie Lynn
Stevie Lynn makes his FWA main show debut after impressing in a British Uprising 3 dark match.  His opponent ‘The Specialist’ has suffered setbacks of late, mainly thanks to miscommunications with his mis-matched tag team partner Stevie Knight, but plans to make experience tell over the exuberance of youth.

The FWA main show debut of Dirk Feelgood
The Monk of Funk’ will be in the house at an FWA main show for the first time, but his role is as yet unclear.  Dirk has developed a real attitude of late, brought on by the ton of mainstream publicity generated by his double life as a doctor, so whatever he does at New Frontiers, expect it to be worth watching.
