WWE Week In Review XXX
November 23, 2008- November 29, 2008

Welcome to the thirtieth edition of the WWE Week In Review. Feel free to contact me on TWO or Wrestling 101 anytime with comments, questions, and anything in between. Also, check out my blog on Wrestling101.com.

The 22’nd Annual WWE Survivor Series came to you, live, from the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, MA. Confirmed for the Thanksgiving Tradition was World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho defending his title against the returning, and Boston’s own, John Cena. The WWE Title would also be on the line as Triple H defended the title in a Triple Threat Match against Jeff Hardy & Vladimir Kozlov. Also, The Undertaker would face Big Show in a Casket Match. Three Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Matches were announced for Survivor Series, as well as Team Batista faced Team Orton, Team Michaels faced Team JBL, & Team RAW took on Team SmackDown in a Divas Elimination Match for brand supremacy.

WWE Survivor Series 2008
Good Night For: Edge & John Cena (Both Made Big Returns To Win A World Title)
Bad Night For: Triple H & Chris Jericho (Both Lost Their World Titles)
It Will Be Interesting This Week For: Edge & John Cena (To See Who Will Challenge The New Champions)

And In Other News…
-It was originally reported by WWE.com early this morning (and it was repeated on the pay-per-view) that Jeff Hardy had been found unconscious in his Boston hotel room and had been rushed to the emergency room. Later that afternoon, Jeff was released from the hospital. In an interview later that night, Jeff’s brother Matt revealed that Jeff had been attacked from behind with a "blunt object" from an unknown assailant.
-The opening bout for the 22’nd annual Survivor Series was a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match that saw Team Michaels defeat Team JBL with three survivors- Team Captain Shawn Michaels, Rey Mysterio, & The Great Khali.
-The second match was a special RAW Vs. SmackDown Divas Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match where Team RAW bested Team SmackDown with only Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix remaining.
-In the most unique Casket Match in the WWE, The Undertaker defeated Big Show. Big Show tried his best to avoid being put in the casket, even going so far as to break the lid of the original casket, but much to Big Show’s dismay, Undertaker’s trusty druids brought another casket out and set it on the staging area. Undertaker used an Irish Whip into the standing casket to win.
-In the final Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match, Team Orton was able to defeat Team Batista with two survivors- Randy Orton & Cody Rhodes.
-Prior to the WWE Title Match, Jim Ross revealed that he had gotten word that Jeff Hardy would NOT be competing in the Triple Threat Match for the WWE Title and that it would be one-on-one with Triple H defending his title against Vladimir Kozlov.
-In a shocking turn of events, a new WWE Champion was crowned at Survivor Series in controversial fashion. Triple H & Vladimir Kozlov fought tooth and nail in their one-on-one encounter for the WWE Title, but after Triple H hit the Pedigree on Kozlov, both Triple H & Kozlov were down in the ring. SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero then appeared and announced that there will still be a Triple Threat Match and that "he" is here. It turned out that the "he" was not Jeff Hardy, but Vickie Guerrero’s long lost husband Edge. The Ultimate Opportunist slid into the ring and laid out the WWE Champion with a Spear. Before Edge could get the pin, Jeff Hardy sprinted to the ring and assaulted Edge. Jeff then wielded a steel chair at Edge, but Edge dodged the shot and Jeff inadvertently hit Triple H with the chair, Jeff then waylaid Kozlov before getting Speared by Edge. Edge took advantage of a downed Triple H to win the WWE Title.
-In the main event for the World Heavyweight Title, John Cena made his return to the WWE in Boston (near his hometown) and after a hard-fought battle with World Champion Chris Jericho, Cena was able to plant Jericho with the F-U to capture the World Heavyweight Title in his first match back from injury.

The 809’th edition of WWE RAW will come to you, live, from the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, RI. Confirmed for the post Survivor Series RAW was a special appearance by the new World Heavyweight Champion John Cena in his return to RAW. Also, in a rematch from last week’s RAW, the team of Shawn Michaels & Rey Mysterio took on The Miz & John Morrison. The Opening Rounds of the Intercontinental Title Tournament would also take place as eight men vie for the opportunity to challenge William Regal for the Intercontinental Title- Kane, Kofi Kingston, Snitsky, CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, The Miz, Finlay, & John Morrison.

Monday Night RAW
Good Week For: John Cena (Made Return To RAW And Assaulted #1 Contender Chris Jericho)
Bad Week For: Shane McMahon (Got Slapped by His Sister Stephanie In A Sibling War of Words)
It Will Be Interesting Next Week For: Stephanie McMahon (To See How She Runs The Show)
Best Mic Work: Stephanie McMahon

And In Other News…
-As RAW came on the air, Shane McMahon was shown arriving at the arena. Shane made his way out to the stage and announced that in RAW’s main event, Chris Jericho and Batista would go one-on-one to determine the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title at Armageddon in three weeks. However, Shane’s sister Stephanie came out and added Randy Orton to the match, making it a Triple Threat Match. After some bickering, Stephanie slapped her brother. Shane responded by telling his sibling that he will watch Stephanie McMahon run RAW right into the ground.
-Despite a distraction caused by the arrival of JBL, Shawn Michaels & Rey Mysterio were able to avenge their loss last week and defeat The Miz & John Morrison in the opening bout. After the match, JBL made his way to the ring. John Morrison held Shawn Michaels for JBL, but instead of striking Michaels, JBL hit Morrison with a big boot. JBL revealed that he and Shawn Michaels are working on some sort of agreement and that Michaels is currently pondering the offer.
-In an opening round of the Intercontinental Title Tournament, Kofi Kingston defeated Kane by DQ. After the match, Kane laid out Kofi with the steel steps. Stephanie McMahon then appeared and granted Kane a match against World Heavyweight Champion John Cena on next week’s RAW.
-It was revealed during RAW, that in two weeks time, RAW will host the return of the WWE Slammy Awards. The 3-Hour Special will commence at a special start time of 8/7c.
-In a match that would determine the #1 Contender for the World Title at Armageddon, Chris Jericho took advantage of a spear by Batista on Randy Orton to earn the right to challenge John Cena for the title.
-In his in-ring return to RAW, Goldust defeated Santino Marella.
-RAW also saw a special appearance by Mr. Kennedy, who discussed his new movie- "Behind Enemy Lines: Columbia".
-In the second opening round match in the Intercontinental Title Tournament, CM Punk defeated Snitsky to advance.
-Melina also made her return to RAW when she teamed with Mickie James & Candice to defeat Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix, Katie Lea, & Jillian.
-RAW was capped off by a special appearance by the new World Heavyweight Champion John Cena. After a verbal battle between Cena and his #1 Contender Chris Jericho, Cena assaulted Jericho in and out of the ring. The crazed new champion locked Jericho in the STF-U, forcing the former champion to submit.

The 129’th edition of ECW on Sci-Fi emanted from the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, RI. Confirmed for ECW was an Extreme Rules Match between Tommy Dreamer & Jack Swagger. Also, Finlay would go one-on-one with Mark Henry.

ECW
Good Week For: Jack Swagger (Picked Up Biggest Win Of His Career)
Bad Week For: Mark Henry & Tony Atlas (Got Hit Repeatedly by Finlay’s Shillelagh)
It Will Be Interesting Next Week For: Jack Swagger (To See What Steps He Will Take To Pursue The ECW Title)
Best Mic Work: The Miz & John Morrison

And In Other News…
-In the opening contest, Jack Swagger survived an Extreme Rules Match with Tommy Dreamer to pick up the win.
-After his big win over Tommy Dreamer, Jack Swagger interrupted an interview with ECW Champion Matt Hardy to let Hardy know that he was coming for the ECW Title.
-"The Thunder From Down Under" DJ Gabriel defeated Jared Gainum.
-In the main event, Mark Henry & Finlay fought to a No Contest after Tony Atlas threw Hornswoggle into the ring. Mark Henry & Tony Atlas then attempted to steal Hornswoggle, but his ever protective father, Finlay assaulted both with a shillelagh to save his son.

The 485’th edition of WWE SmackDown came to you from the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. Confirmed for SmackDown was the SmackDown Return of the new WWE Champion Edge.

Friday Night SmackDown
Good Week For: Triple H & Jeff Hardy (Both Were Able To Advance In The Beat The Clock Challenge)
Bad Week For: Edge (Despite Being The New WWE Champion, Has Three Angry Challengers For His Gold)
It’ll Be Interesting Next Week For: Triple H & Jeff Hardy (To See Who Will Get The WWE Title Shot)
Best Mic Work: Edge

And In Other News…
-New WWE Champion Edge & SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero opened the show to celebrate the return of new WWE Champion Edge. The husband and wife reunited in the middle of the ring and Edge tells the GM that he won the title for her. Vickie thanks her husband for saving her from the irresponsibility of Jeff Hardy. A furious Hardy rushed to the ring, but was stopped by several members of security. Triple H then rushes out and knocks down the security and Jeff Hardy, but is stopped by even more security. Vladimir Kozlov then comes in from the other side and is in the ring with the champion and threatens to beat up Edge and take his title. Vickie Guerrero steps in and announces three Beat The Clock Matches to determine the #1 Contender for Edge’s WWE Title at Armageddon. The first of the three to compete will set the time and the other two competitors must beat the previous time to advance. If a competitor does not beat the clock or does not win their match, they will not receive a WWE Title Match.
-In the first Beat The Clock Match, Jeff Hardy defeated The Brian Kendrick to set the time to beat at 12:13.
-In 6-Diva Tag Action, the team of Maryse, Natalya, & Victoria defeated Divas Champion Michelle McCool & The Bella Twins after one of the Bellas accidentally clotheslined McCool and Maryse took advantage and pinned the champion. After the match, McCool and The Bellas argued in the ring and Maria came in to break it up, but McCool shoved Maria to the mat before leaving the ring.
-In the second Beat The Clock Match, Vladimir Kozlov was unable to beat the clock against ECW Champion Matt Hardy, who promised to get Jeff into the WWE Title Match at Armageddon.
-Jesse & Festus also scored a win over The Miz & John Morrison by disqualification. During the match, John Morrison slipped to the outside of the ring and, like last week, rang the ring bell to "deactivate" Festus. However, Jesse knocked Morrison down and threw him into the ring with the stoic Festus. Jesse then rang the bell and Festus commenced his assault on The Shaman of Sexy. Miz then took Jesse down and rang the bell again to send Festus back into his trance. Miz & Morrison then double-teamed Jesse to the point of getting disqualified. After Miz & Morrison taunted Festus using the ring bell, Miz blasted Jesse with the bell, but Miz also dropped the hammer onto the bell, ringing it again and Festus cleared the ring of the duo.
-In the Beat The Clock Match, Triple H defeated United States Champion Shelton Benjamin, but The Game tied Jeff Hardy’s time of 12:13. Before the end of the match, the referee was inadvertently knocked down, which caused Triple H to lose the few crucial seconds it took to beat Jeff’s time. While the original referee granted Triple H the win, the referee from Jeff Hardy Vs. The Brian Kendrick came out and argued that Triple H did not beat the clock. With both men finishing their matches at the exact same time, who is the #1 Contender?
-It was announced after SmackDown went off the air that General Manager Vickie Guerrero and the WWE Board of Directors have decided that Edge will defend the WWE Title in a Triple Threat Match at Armageddon against both Triple H & Jeff Hardy.
-A huge main event was announced for next week as The Undertaker will face off with Big Show in a Steel Cage Match. Also, Hurricane Helms will make his return to SmackDown.

Superstars of the Week: Edge & John Cena
