SSP#14: Jeff Hardy, Celebrity General Managers and Edge’s Injury
by Edgedogg on 12 July 2009

In this edition of SSP I will be doing my usual “Good Idea, Bad Idea”, speaking about Jeff Hardy, Kane, celebrity general managers, Edge’s Injury and introducing a new segment to my blogs entitled “One to Watch”. This will cover a superstar that is either new or trying to break through or a current star who is performing exceptionally well. To start this week I will be speaking about one of the new faces of ECW, Sheamus.

Edge’s Injury

As everyone is probably already aware Edge had surgery this week to repair his torn Achilles tendon in his left ankle. This could have Edge out of action for up to a year. Personally I think this is tragic, Edge is one of the best on the roster and a level of quality will defiantly be missing from WWE television with Edge on the shelf. I was loving the whole Team Ego thing being on both brands…and now that has come to an end. What does this mean for Chris Jericho is what I want to know? Hopefully Edge will be back in time for WrestleMania next year, it would be a shame for him to miss out on it.

Jeff Hardy

A continuing topic over the last few months…will he or won’t he? I would like to pose a few more questions…is the whole thing a work? And why would the WWE put a superstar in a World Heavyweight Title match on a PPV when he hasn’t signed a contract to be with the company a month later? Sure Jeff Hardy is over…but that’s never stopped the WWE before…after all, Vince has made it clear numerous times than no one star is bigger than the company and he’s right. I wonder if this whole thing is a work to make us think that Jeff can’t win the title at Night of Champions if he hasn’t resigned and then do Jeff Hardy swerve number 3 and have him win the title…shock horror…Jeff signed a new contract months ago…it’s either that…or the WWE believe that their talent can work at top level professionally when they are near the end of their contracts. I don’t believe for a second that Tommy Dreamer signed a new contract the day after winning the ECW title…he signed that when they decided to give him the title. I would like to believe Jeff has signed a new contract and if that means sacrificing CM Punk’s run….I say why not? If John Cena and Edge could play pass the parcel with the title, why can’t CM Punk and Jeff Hardy?

Kane

Despite what many have discussed, Kane’s gimmick does not need to change, but what does need to change in the writing around Kane. He has by far one of the greatest presences on the roster and could be the best tweener on the roster. Kane doesn’t need a reason for doing bad things or good things…he’s Kane…he can do whatever the hell he wants. With Edge now out…a spot within the main event has opened…I think Kane should fill this void as soon as possible and get out of this pointless feud with Khali.

Celebrity General Managers

In my opinion, this is a very good idea; it adds unpredictability to the show which can only increase ratings. You are guessing every single week to see who the next general manager is going to be. I think they should keep this running as long as possible and eventually give the public a vote on who they want to see as a permanent GM. I’m going to go over the two we’ve had so far and the one to come.

Batista – Not the best of starts but I understand the logic in it as far as storylines go. It makes things bad for Orton who was having things his own way up to that point. Batista did an ok job, but it was one I would of expected from any face wrestler to of been put in that position.

Million Dollar Man – Brilliant; I’ve read so much around the internet this week about how he still has the ability to get over angles at the highest level and I couldn’t agree more, I would be happy if the Celebrity GM storyline ended in the morning with Ted as the permanent GM. Ted is a legend in so many ways; this is going to be a hard one to follow.

Seth Green – This is either going to be very good or very bad; I don’t see a middle ground with this one. As an actor I like Seth and his comedy from Robot Chicken is priceless but in this role I’m not to sure. I do think it’s a good start to actors and the like playing the role. Lets hope it’s not cringe worthy.

Sheamus

Sheamus, better known to the Irish audience as Sheamus O’Shaunessy or SOS has been trying to get onto the main WWE roster for years and he has finally made it. Personally as an Irish wrestling fan I’m delighted, having met him a few times while touring around with Irish Whip Wrestling I know he’s a genuine guy who’s ring work was always top notch whenever I saw him. Now that he is in the WWE, he can hone the skills he already has and could quite possibly become a strong player within the WWE. For those who don’t speak gaelic and want to know what Sheamus said, he basically said, “Hi, How are you? My name is Sheamus and I am a big ginger man!!” Which I think is just totally priceless; the guy couldn’t be anymore Irish. I think the WWE have finally realised how much of an Irish following they have, I was at WrestleMania this year and the amount of Irish fans that were over there was unbelievable, the wrestlers themselves commented several times on the amount of Tri-Colour flags they had seen.  I am really looking forward to watching what they do with Sheamus, I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised by what the Dublin born ginger can do.

It’s time for another “Good Idea, Bad Idea!”

Good Idea

* Running with the whole celebrity GM- thing, you don’t know what’s going to happen and who it’s going to be.

Bad Idea

*Breaking up the Colons  – I think it’s too soon, although I do like Carlito as a heel, this one has already bit them on the ass by losing Edge out to injury..

Until next time peeps…..this has been another edition of the Shooting Star Press.

Regards,

Edgedogg
