CBlog #47- Bret Hart, SmackDown and WWE Hell in a Cell Predictions
by Cassidy Haslett on 27 September 2009

Hello and welcome to the 47th edition of CBlog; the most updated blog on all of Wrestling101! Right off the top, I want to thank everyone who have posted their comments (good or bad) in response to my previous blogs. It makes me feel like I am really accomplishing something and reaching out to people who care about what I have to say. It really is an honor. So, thank you again.

Don’t forget that you can follow me on Twitter at WWELife. I am always tweeting about something; sometimes it is wrestling related and sometimes it is just my random opinions.

In this CBlog, I will be discussing the exciting rumor that Bret “Hitman” Hart may be returning to the WWE in the future. I will also be giving my thoughts on the Decade of SmackDown special airing next week and the current and former talent that is scheduled or rumored to appear. Finally, I will be giving my predictions for the upcoming WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. All that and much more, right now on the CBlog:

Let’s start off with something I am really excited about, but also very sceptical about and that is the alleged return of Bret Hart to the WWE. I was always a Bret Hart fan and to see him back in the WWE after almost twelve years would be unreal for me. However, there is a lot of disappointment to be had when it comes to rumors and I will believe Hart’s return when I see it.

Well, next Friday will be the special “Decade of SmackDown” celebration and it will feature Superstars from RAW, SmackDown, & ECW. It also supposed to feature past SmackDown stars like Vickie Guerrero and even a taped appearance by The Rock! I am predicting a special appearance by Stone Cold Steve Austin as well. It should be a very interesting show to say the least. While I am excited to see the former stars, the current stars are going to have quite a match in the main event and I am very much looking forward to it. It will be (in case you have not heard) an 8-Man Tag Team Match that will see WWE Champion John Cena and D-Generation X (Triple H & Shawn Michaels) from RAW teaming with The Undertaker from SmackDown to face off with World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk from SmackDown and Randy Orton & Legacy (Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase) from RAW! With all of these big stars in one match, it should be great for all fans. When you look at the lineup, there is no doubt that Legacy kind of sticks out a bit as not really being as big of stars as the others. Let’s face it, though, Rhodes & DiBiase will not be as big as DX in their careers. It’s a bold statement, but true. I have been impressed with the DX/Legacy feud as it has really given Legacy a chance to shine. Legacy is no doubt the future of the WWE, but there is no way they will ever be as big as Triple H & Shawn Michaels.

I started on the new SmackDown DVD the other day and it is a pretty good compilation of moments from the ten-year history of SmackDown. I have only watched the first disc, but it has already had some classic moments and it promises even more. The DVD set is a countdown style where they count down SmackDown’s greatest matches and moments from #100 to #1. The first disc has numbers 100 to 70 and there are a few good ones in there; like the time that Kurt Angle shot Big Show with a tranquilizer dart and shaved his head when he was unconscious or the time that the WWE Champion Triple H faced the ECW Champion Tazz. There’s also the time that Eddie Guerrero auctioned off a bunch of Kurt Angle’s memorabilia. Then there was the whole “Mr. America” thing, the return of Piper’s Pit, Eric Bischoff kissing Stephanie McMahon, Carlito winning the United States Title in his WWE debut, the Steel Cage Match where Eddie Guerrero finally defeated Rey Mysterio after their lengthy feud, and the time that Mr. McMahon sang to Stone Cold Steve Austin and Stone Cold blasted Vince with the guitar. There are really a ton of great moments on there. What I like about it is that when they discuss some of the great SmackDown matches, they show the match in its entirety! Now the downside about the compilation is the pieces with Michael Cole & Matt Striker (who host the whole thing). It is not a problem with Cole & Striker (even though I hate Cole and hate to look at him even more), but whenever they are shown and they’re talking, there is a bunch of noise going on in the background as they are building the ring and the set for a WWE event and it’s annoying to listen to. It’s like they threw Cole & Striker in front of the camera at the last second or something. The other bad thing is that there was an 8-Man Tag that was featured on the “All-Star Kick Off” that celebrated the debut of SmackDown on MyNetworkTV and it had Batista, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, & Finlay taking on JBL, Kane, MVP, & The Brian Kendrick and it was featured as #70 on the DVD! It was a pretty good match, but I would not consider it as one of SmackDown’s 100 Greatest Moments. Other than those two things, the DVD has been really good (so far).

Now, on to my predictions for WWE Hell in a Cell, which will be airing on pay-per-view on October 4. I plan to order it whenever my DVR decides to cooperate with me (or when I get fed up with it and call DISH or email them or something). Anyways, here are the predictions:

WWE Championship: Hell in a Cell: John Cena (c) def. Randy Orton to retain.

Now, I have a simple explanation for this result and it is that Cena just won the title at Breaking Point, so I highly doubt that he would lose it in his first defense unless he suffered some sort of injury before next Sunday. This match has potential to be really good, maybe even great, but it all depends on how it is booked. Hopefully, we will see more of the vicious Randy Orton and less of the weak Randy Orton. I liked how Orton was portrayed in the Breaking Point “I Quit” Match up until the point he was put in Cena’s version of the STF where he almost immediately tapped out. That made Orton look even weaker. Anyways, I think we will see some awesome spots by both Cena & Orton, but in the end, Cena will come out as champion.

World Heavyweight Championship: Hell in a Cell: CM Punk (c) def. The Undertaker to retain.

Now, I originally thought that there was no way that Punk would go over Undertaker in Hell in a Cell, but that was until I heard the news/rumor that Punk could be getting an on-screen bodyguard. That made me change my prediction as I can see the bodyguard interfering in the match (somehow; they always find a way) and costing Undertaker the title. Then we could have a rematch on SmackDown or something and the bodyguard keeps the title on Punk again and then the feud moves on or something. I just don’t see them putting the belt on Undertaker when CM Punk is doing so well as a heel and, as far as I know, is in much better health than Undertaker. In any case, I see CM Punk walking out of the match as the World Heavyweight Champion by any means necessary (shot out to the Nation of Domination!).

Tag Team Hell in a Cell: D-Generation X def. Legacy

Believe it or not, I almost forgot about this one! This has promise to be an excellent Hell in a Cell Match (as all of them do, really), but there’s no doubt that DX will defeat Legacy in the match. I also see the match ending in a submission victory. Now, the feud is supposed to end after this match (as it should, really) and I would absolutely love to see DX win the Unified Tag Team Titles. As you will see below, I picked Batista & Mysterio to be the new tag champions, but I still hold out hope for DX to hold the gold in the future.

Unified Tag Team Championship: Batista & Rey Mysterio def. Big Show & Chris Jericho (c) to win the Unified Tag Team Titles.

Ever since Batista returned to SmackDown, he has defeated both Chris Jericho (cleanly) and Big Show (by disqualification) and also made Jericho tap out and Big Show almost tap out. That combined with Rey Mysterio making his return for the match makes me believe that Batista & Mysterio will become the new Unified Tag Team Champions. It totally makes sense to me to have Batista & Rey as the champions, considering that both men don’t really have a place on the roster at the moment. In my opinion (since this is my blog), Batista feuding with main event level stars is the only place he can be where he does not look out of place. Since he is not in the World Heavyweight Title picture at the moment, the only sensible thing to do is to make him one-half of the new tag team champions. The case with Rey Mysterio is that he lost his spot when he was suspended and now the guy who got the Intercontinental Title, John Morrison, is now in a feud with Dolph Ziggler, so while we will probably see a one off title defense by Morrison against Mysterio in the future, I think they will ultimately keep the title on Morrison for the time being. Unlike Batista, it does not look odd when Mysterio is below main event status as he can has worked well in the mid-card area for a while now, but like I said, he’s lost his spot. The bottom line is that I predict Batista & Rey Mysterio winning the Unified Tag Team Titles. Big Show & Chris Jericho have had a good run as the champions and I think it’s time to crown new ones.

Intercontinental Championship: John Morrison (c) def. Dolph Ziggler to retain.

This prediction is far from a “sure thing” for me as I can easily see Ziggler winning the Intercontinental Title. However, I am predicting Morrison to retain since it is his first title defense and it seems to me that they would have had Dolph beat Rey for the title if they wanted Dolph to have it in Rey’s absence.

United States Championship: Triple Threat: Kofi Kingston (c) def. The Miz & Jack Swagger to retain.

I know I am not alone when I say I am so, so sick of these multi-person title defenses they keep putting Kofi into. Not only that, but it is against the same group of opponents over and over in different combinations. Though The Miz is a likely candidate to win the title, I am predicting that Kofi Kingston will pull a “Cena” and keep defying the odds to retain the title. One theory that I believe is that, when Big Show & Chris Jericho lose the Unified Tag Team Titles, it will send Big Show back to his “home brand” of RAW. Once Big Show resumes his singles career, I can see him being the one to beat Kofi for the title as that seemed to be the original plan before Edge’s injury. I am just hoping that the new champion, whenever he is crowned, will be booked better as the champion than Kofi has been.

I see a match for the ECW Championship being added to the card, but I highly doubt that it will be a Hell in a Cell Match. I do believe that it has to be some sort of specialty match, however, as we have seen Christian defeat William Regal to retain the title twice now and both times, Christian has done it in a regular match. It might be an Extreme Rules Match or possibly a Scramble Match, but I see the title being defended regardless and I also see Christian retaining the title as well. I could also see Mickie James Vs. Alicia Fox for the Divas Title and/or Michelle McCool Vs. Melina for the Women’s Title thrown in there at the last minute as well. As for those matches, I am hoping that this punishment being put on Mickie James will not lead to her dropping the title to Alicia Fox as that would be too much. Mickie losing the title is an inevitability in the future, but the title should go to someone like Gail Kim or Beth Phoenix, not Alicia “Don’t Call Me Sharmell” Fox. As for the Women’s Title match (if it happens), I am kind of torn as to who would win as both McCool & Melina have been booked about equally as of late. I would have to go with McCool retaining though. Whenever these two do face off (again) for the title, I imagine it will end with McCool getting a cheap win over Melina using the knee injury to her advantage somehow (there are a number of ways, really).

Well, that is it for this installment of the CBlog. Keep reading and tell your friends! Again, feel free to follow me on Twitter at WWELife. You can also feel free to email me with any questions. Thanks for reading! Peace!
