CBlog XXX- Thoughts On Cyber Sunday
by Cassidy Haslett on 22 November 2008

Welcome the the thirtieth edition of the CBlog. As the title suggests, I will be giving my thoughts on last night’s Cyber Sunday pay-per-view:

United States Championship- This was a special WWE.com Exclusive that aired right before Cyber Sunday started. The match started a little after 6:45PM (central time) and ended about five minutes later. R-Truth was voted in to challenge Shelton Benjamin. Unfortunately, Benjamin gave Truth his first loss in the WWE (at least under the R-Truth name). I was hoping to see Truth take the belt and preserve his undefeated streak. I would’ve settled for a DQ or Count-Out ending.

Kane Vs. Rey Mysterio- No real surprises in this one, the No Holds Barred Match got voted in and Rey won the match. Since Kane has been riding roughshot in this feud, it seemed like Rey would win no matter what the stipulation was.

ECW Championship- Usually, the ECW Title matches on pay-per-view just suck, but this one was awesome. To me, that can be accredited to Evan Bourne getting voted in. Had it been Finlay or Mark Henry, I don’t think the match would have been half as good as it was. You can tell a good championship match when you actually believe that the title will change hands, despite the predictions you make before the match gets underway. I definetly look forward to more matches between Matt Hardy & Evan Bourne. Actually, Bourne will face Rey Mysterio on tonight’s RAW, which should be another great encounter.

Cryme Tyme Vs. The Miz & John Morrison- Little surprised that the World Tag Team Title Match did not get voted in (though it was close). This match was okay, not any better or worse than their TV matches.

Intercontinental Championship- This match was good for it’s purpose, which is comedy. Phoenix getting Marella the DQ and then Marella objecting seems backwards for a heel. In any case, I wonder if this is it for this Marella/Honky feud?

Big Show Vs. The Undertaker- The third best match on the show for me, it had some great spots all around and Undertaker bringing back that supposively “illegal” choke was great. J.R. gave it a great name- the Death Valley Vice. This was one of the matches that made me want to buy the pay-per-view. I am surprised that the Knockout Match got so few votes, I guess the mentality is that that match would be to Show’s advantage. The funny thing here is that before the match, Vickie Guerrero got confused and announced the wrong match and then after a long awkward pause, redid the segment. It was great.

Halloween Costume Contest- I’ll keep it simple, Mickie deserved (and did) win, hands down.

WWE Championship- The second best match of the night for me. In a pure championship match, this had to be the top one. I was expecting a Triple Threat to get voted in, but Triple H and Jeff Hardy were actually able to top their No Mercy match, which is hard to pull off since they had quite the classic at No Mercy. Also surprised to see no interference by Kozlov.

World Heavyweight Championship- If you look at the match itself, it wasn’t too good, but all the pandomoneum with Stone Cold, Shawn Michaels, JBL, & Randy Orton made it the best of the night as it was hard to call a winner. Batista winning the title never even crossed my mind as a possibility since Jericho just won the belt at Unforgiven early last month. After he won the belt, it clicked in my head that WWE is planning to have Batista Vs. John Cena for the World Title at Survivor Series (which will see Cena return to action, as advertised during the pay-per-view). I did enjoy RAW during Cena’s absence, but I guess it’s short-lived and I should have expected he’d be back at some point. I was just hoping it would be somewhere between next year and never.

My next blog will probably be sometime close to Survivor Series, unless something else happens that’s blog-worthy. Peace.
