WWE SmackDown Blast from the Past Results: April 10, 2012
Sheamus’ legendary performance.
The 660th edition of WWE SmackDown would get taken over by legends as Super SmackDown LIVE: Blast from the Past came to you, live, from the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA. Legends and Hall of Famers would descend upon SmackDown as “The Hardcore Legend” Mick Foley, “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, “Cowboy” Bob Orton, Pat Patterson, Sgt. Slaughter, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Hillbilly Jim, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, Howard Finkel, “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas, “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart, and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper will all appear on the live extravaganza! Also, after a questionable call by the referee was responsible for Alberto Del Rio becoming the new #1 Contender, World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus took his frustrations out on the referee, blasting the official with the Brogue Kick. After already being fined for the attack, RAW & SmackDown General Manager John Laurinaitis will announce the punishment for “The Great White” on Super SmackDown LIVE! Could Sheamus be stripped of the World Heavyweight Title or even fired by the General Manager?

Super SmackDown LIVE: Blast from the Past kicks off appropriately with WWE Hall of Famer “Mean” Gene Okerlund as Okerlund brings out World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus. Sheamus states that “honor” is very important in the WWE and, as the World Heavyweight Champion, there is a certain “code” that you follow, but he did not last week. Sheamus continues that there is “no excuse” for his behavior last week before the champion apologizes to the referee he assaulted, Chad Patton, as well as the rest of the referees and all of the fans. Sheamus then says that he always learns things the “hard way”, but the World Heavyweight Champion is then interrupted by RAW & SmackDown General Manager John Laurinaitis, who shows what happened last week as the referee disqualifies Sheamus upon seeing a steel chair in the champion’s hands, despite Sheamus never actually using it. Following this decision, Sheamus blasted the referee with the Brogue Kick, hence the apology from Sheamus. Laurinaitis reminds Sheamus that he is the General Manager and he is going to take “action”, telling Sheamus to publicly apologize to referee Chad Patton. Sheamus explains to the GM that he just did that, but Laurinaitis claims that he did not “hear it”, telling Sheamus to apologize again. Sheamus redoes the apology to Chad Patton and Laurinaitis tells the champion to apologize to all of the referees, again claiming he did not hear Sheamus apologize the first time. Sheamus apologizes to the referees a second time before Laurinaitis tells him to do a second apology to the fans, as well. Sheamus gladly does it over, but the GM claims that, despite doing all three apologies twice, it is still not good enough before Laurinaitis puts Sheamus on “permanent probation” and fining him a whopping $500,000 and, if Sheamus touches another referee, either on purpose or on accident, he will be fired from the WWE! The GM then informs Sheamus that he will be in action in the main event as Alberto Del Rio teams with Daniel Bryan to face Sheamus and his tag team partner, “Mean” Gene Okerlund! Having never wrestled in his legendary career as an interviewer and announcer, what will happen when Gene Okerlund steps into the ring?
Before he challenges CM Punk for the WWE Championship in a match with no disqualifications and no count-outs on next week’s RAW, “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry went one-on-one with “The Viper” Randy Orton in the opening match of the night. During the match, Kane would appear on the big screen, saying that Randy Orton proved last week why he is “The Viper”. Kane continues, saying that it would be a “shame” for their rivalry to end now because he is having so much “fun”, the type of fun the entire family can enjoy. Kane then kneels down, showing Orton’s father, Hall of Famer “Cowboy” Bob Orton, unconscious on the floor! Orton then rushes backstage, finding his father, but also finding Kane, who comes out of hiding to drive a steel pipe into Orton’s mid-section and again to the back of Orton’s skull! Kane then says he is a “sucker for family reunions” before leaving a writhing Randy Orton next to his unconscious father.
With legends Tony Atlas, Pat Patterson, Hillbilly Jim, and “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase watching from the back, the unknown Benny Camer says that it is his first match in the WWE, but he is interrupted by the powerhouse newcomer, “The Juggernaut” Ryback. Ryback makes quick work of Benny Camer, hitting a modified Samoan Drop en route to picking up a dominant win.
“The Hardcore Legend” Mick Foley then appears, in suit and tie, to join Michael Cole, Josh Mathews, and Booker T on commentary!
With Hall of Famer “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart in their corner for one night only, Tyson Kidd teamed with Heath Slater to face Jimmy & Jey Uso on Super SmackDown LIVE. After having Jimmy Hart holler in his ear with his trademark megaphone throughout the match, Mick Foley gets up from the announce position, chasing Hart away with Mr. Socko as Hart crawls through the ring. This distracts Heath Slater long enough for Jimmy & Jey Uso to take advantage as Jey Uso hits the Superfly Splash on Slater en route to picking up the win. After the match, Heath Slater shoves Jimmy Hart to Mick Foley, who puts the Mandible Claw on “The Mouth of the South”!
After publicly breaking up with and embarrassing A.J. on last week’s SmackDown, Daniel Bryan would enter Piper’s Pit to explain himself to Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper! After recapping Daniel Bryan’s eighteen second loss at WrestleMania and his public break-up with A.J. last week, Roddy Piper introduces Daniel Bryan as Bryan makes his way to Piper’s Pit. Piper tells Bryan that Bryan seems happy for a guy who lost the World Heavyweight Title in eighteen seconds at WrestleMania, but Bryan informs the Hall of Famer that John Laurinaitis has granted him his mandatory rematch for the title at Extreme Rules in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match! Bryan says that A.J. will be nowhere near the rematch at Extreme Rules. Piper admits that A.J. may not be involved at Extreme Rules, but she is in the building tonight. Piper then brings A.J. to the ring as A.J. says that, deep down, Daniel Bryan is a “good person”. Piper reminds A.J. that Bryan called her “dead weight” and said her kiss was a “kiss of death”, but A.J. claims it is her “fault”. A.J. elaborates that she made a “mistake” at WrestleMania and, if they could just talk, she thinks she can make it up to him. Piper tells A.J. that she is “strong” and “smart” before saying Bryan is “using” her, but Bryan interrupts, saying that if A.J. really loved him, then she would leave the ring. A.J. is then faced with the choice of listening to Daniel Bryan or listening to Roddy Piper, but A.J. heeds the advice of Bryan, leaving the ring. With a smile on his face, Bryan tries to leave the ring, but Piper calls Bryan back. Piper tells Bryan that he had four children and three of them are girls, saying you do not tell a lady to “shut up” and you do not yell at a lady and you do not use a lady as a human shield. Piper then calls Bryan a “coward”, adding that all three of those things are a “no” before telling Bryan that he is going to get to see Sheamus kick Bryan’s head off of his shoulders twice in one match. Bryan tells Piper that, at Extreme Rules, the fact that he is better than Sheamus is going to slap Sheamus and everyone else, including Piper, across the face. Bryan then does just that as Bryan slaps the Hall of Famer across the face before making a quick exit from the ring, proud of his actions.
Super SmackDown LIVE also saw a 6-Person Mixed Tag Match as “The Punjabi Giant” The Great Khali teamed with Natalya and Alicia Fox to face Drew McIntyre & The Bella Twins. However, when coming face-to-face with The Great Khali, Drew McIntyre quickly tags out of the match, walking out on The Bella Twins. Alicia Fox then hits a bridging suplex on Nikki Bella to pick up the win. After the match, the trio dances their way up to the stage, but Hall of Famer Mae Young comes out, forcing herself on The Great Khali!
Hall of Famer “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan was in action on Super SmackDown LIVE as “Hacksaw” went one-on-one with Hunico, with Camacho in his corner. Early on in the match, Jim Duggan comes face-to-face with Camacho, but “Hacksaw” calls for his backup in the form of Sgt. Slaughter. Slaughter tosses the two-by-four to Duggan, who uses it on Hunico, ending the match via disqualification, before Slaughter locks in the Cobra Clutch.
After being cost two matches by new Intercontinental Champion Big Show for the past two weeks, Cody Rhodes appears on SmackDown, saying they are wasting their time on the legends because they should be looking to the future, a future where he is the Intercontinental Champion. Cody Rhodes is then interrupted by his father, Hall of Famer “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. Dusty says that Cody came into the WWE as a naturally gifted athlete, but recently, all Cody wanted to do was pick a fight with Big Show. Cody then interrupts his father, saying that Dusty is “embarrassing” him, explaining that they can talk about it backstage. Cody then exits the ring, but Intercontinental Champion Big Show comes out, saying he is going to show the “real” Cody Rhodes, showing footage from Cody’s days of being “dashing” as Cody is shown applying lip gloss. Cody then has to turn and face his father, but an embarrassed Cody offers no explanation for “The American Dream”.
Then it was time for the unusual main event as World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus teams with Hall of Famer “Mean” Gene Okerlund to face the team of Daniel Bryan and Alberto Del Rio. During the match, Alberto Del Rio would take Sheamus out with a kick to the skull on the outside of the ring before Alberto Del Rio, Daniel Bryan, and Ricardo Rodriguez corner Gene Okerlund in the ring, but Roddy Piper emerges, leading the cavalry of legends to the ring as Piper, Pat Patterson, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, Jimmy Hart, Dusty Rhodes, Hillbilly Jim, Tony Atlas, and Sgt. Slaughter lend aid to a legend in need. With Piper and Patterson causing the distraction, Daniel Bryan turns around into the Brogue Kick by Sheamus en route to Sheamus picking up the win for his team. After the match, the sea of legends surround Ricardo Rodriguez as “The Million Dollar Man” delivers a right hand, Dusty Rhodes hits the Bionic Elbow, Pat Patterson gets a right hand in, Tony Atlas scoop slams Rodriguez, Sgt. Slaughter locks in the Cobra Clutch, Roddy Piper delivers a poke to the eyes, and Sheamus rounds it out with a Brogue Kick to the face of the personal ring announcer! After ridiculing the legends throughout the night, Michael Cole gets in the ring and is surrounded by the legends before Pat Patterson decks the commentator!
