WWE: Internal Feeling on the Company’s Direction

Posted on May 24th, 2012 by

PWInsider.com is reporting that several people within the WWE feel that the company currently has no direction in their storylines. The feeling is that things were looking up post-WrestleMania with the return of Brock Lesnar, but the whole “People Power” era and the John Laurinaitis push have made things go downhill as of late.

In addition, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that a lot of people within the WWE do not expect the three-hour RAW idea to be permanent, despite claims of the contrary on television and in the official announcements made. Pretty much all of the internal feedback about the three-hour move has been negative as the general feeling is that RAW already drags by as a two-hour show and adding a third-hour on a regular basis will only make it worse.

While the format of the new three-hour RAW (which kicks off on July 23 with the 1,000th episode of RAW) is still being determined, the current plan is to treat the show like a weekly pay-per-view event, but with interactive features (allowing the fans to decide match stipulations, among other things).

The USA Network has been interested in making RAW a three-hour show for several years, but Vince McMahon and the WWE have not interested (as a matter of fact, Vince has gone on record as saying that he would prefer RAW be a 90-minute show). USA currently pays the WWE around $700,000 per episode for RAW and a $100,000 increase would mean $5.2 million in new gross revenue for the company.
