WWE Spoilers: JBL Returning as a SmackDown Commentator?

Posted on August 5th, 2012 by wwe-jbl-03061

WrestleScoop.com is reporting that former WWE Champion John “Bradshaw” Layfield may be returning to the WWE to serve as the color commentator for the SmackDown brand after Booker T was removed from the announce position to serve as the SmackDown General Manager. Speculation on JBL’s return began to run rampant after Layfield posted the following on Twitter: “I was only debating coming back, not very serious. But after @michaelcole shows he is still alive and an idiot. I’m coming back!”

Sending out his first tweet in six months, Michael Cole responded, “It was Jordan and Pippen. You got glory, I did the work. Sorry I am actually working and not golfing at St. Andrews or fishing in the Bahamas. Enjoy retirement. I am sure they have a spot for you at NXT and FCW. Enjoy learning the ropes again.”

However, when addressed by a fan on Twitter regarding a return, JBL responded, “You never know. Just having fun on Twitter, but if [the] job was offered to me, [it] would be very tempting…..SmackDown job would be great, but hasn’t been offered, so no plans as of now [to return].”

JBL’s last match was at The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania on April 5, 2009 where he lost the Intercontinental Title to Rey Mysterio in only a 21-second match, the third shortest match in WrestleMania history (the second shortest was at this year’s WrestleMania with Sheamus defeating Daniel Bryan for the World Heavyweight Title in 18 seconds and the shortest was at WrestleMania 24 when Kane defeated Chavo Guerrero in 11 seconds to win the ECW Title). After the quick loss, Layfield proclaimed, “I quit” and then he retired from in-ring competition. JBL would re-emerge in a surprise appearance on RAW last year as he came out to accept Michael Cole’s offer to be the Special Referee for Cole’s match against Jerry “The King” Lawler at WrestleMania 27, but Stone Cold Steve Austin interrupted the proceedings and hit Layfield with a Stunner before signing the contract to officiate the match. JBL’s most recent appearance was on the 1,000th Episode of RAW when he reformed The A.P.A. with Ron Simmons for one night only to provide “protection” for Lita in her match against Heath Slater.
