WWE: Company Doing Scooby-Doo Crossover with Warner Bros.

Posted on August 15th, 2012 by

The Wrestling-Online Newsletter is reporting that WWE Studios and Warner Bros. have announced a new project that will see WWE Superstars and Divas crossing over, in animated form, to join Scooby-Doo and the gang to solve a WrestleMania mystery. John Cena, Triple H, The Miz, Brodus Clay, AJ Lee, Santino Marella, Kane, Sin Cara, and even WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon will be lending their voices and likeness to the crossover movie.

WWE Studios President Michael Luisi commented on the exciting new project, saying “We are excited to partner with Warner Bros. on this wonderful animated film. Kids and adults are going to enjoy seeing their favorite WWE Superstars in animated form join forces with an icon like Scooby-Doo to solve a mystery at the biggest pop culture event of the year- WrestleMania.”

Executive Vice President and General Manager of TV for Warner Bros.’ Warner Home Video division Jeff Brown stated, “Warner Bros. is thrilled to get into the ring with WWE Studios to bring fans an unprecedented animated adventure. We’re excited to leverage the WWE’s family-friendly brand and passionate fan base and integrate some of the most popular WWE Superstars and Divas within the Scooby-Doo gang.”

WWE Studios and Warner Bros. have released a synopsis for the DVD and Blu-Ray movie, saying that Scooby-Doo and the gang win tickets to WrestleMania, but a ghost appears to try and ruin the show, so the gang teams with WWE Superstars to solve the mystery and ensure that the event goes off without a hitch. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will handle the distribution of the film, releasing it on DVD, Blu-Ray, Video-On-Demand, and digital download while WWE will handle the marketing and promotion for the animated movie.

Considering that WWE’s new Saturday Morning Slam kids show will debut on August 25 on the CW Network, a joint network created by CBS Corporation and Warner Bros., one would assume that the creation of Saturday Morning Slam got the WWE’s foot in the door to work with Warner Bros. and several sources anticipate that the kids show will feature the heaviest promotion of the WWE/Scooby-Doo film. While a release date for the animated production has not been revealed, it is widely speculated that it will be released around the time of WrestleMania 29 on April 7.

Since its establishment in 1918, Warner Bros. has been responsible for some of the most iconic and legendary characters and television shows in history. Names such as Batman, Superman, DC Comics, Looney Tunes, Animaniacs, and, of course, Scooby-Doo have all come from Warner Bros. The company is also responsible for the film production company, New Line Cinema, which has released such films as the A Nightmare on Elm Street series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mr. Nanny (which starred Hulk Hogan), the Friday series, Dumb and Dumber, Freddy vs. Jason, The Lord of the Rings, The Mask, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the Rush Hour trilogy, and the Friday The 13th films.

Scooby-Doo has been around since 1969 and the WWE crossover is not the first for Scooby and the gang as Warner Bros. has included The Harlem Globetrotters, Batman & Robin, Don Knotts, Sandy Duncan, The Addams Family, and The Three Stooges in the Scooby-Doo world.
