WWE: Jerry Lawler Holds Press Conference in Memphis

Posted on September 20th, 2012 by

The Wrestling-Online Newsletter is reporting that, for the first time since his near-fatal heart attack during RAW on September 10, Jerry “The King” Lawler spoke publicly about that scary night in Montreal, as well as his recovery. The Hall of Famer held a press conference in his hometown of Memphis as Lawler revealed that he can only remember the opening segment of the show between CM Punk and Bret Hart, but remembers nothing after that point and does not even remember wrestling that night, despite the fact that his heart attack did not occur until about an hour after the opening segment. “The King” also mentioned that he had to watch that night’s RAW to even know what happened and that fellow Hall of Famers such as Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan called him after learning of his heart attack.

Lawler also spoke on his present condition, saying that, besides a sore throat (from the tubes inserted to keep him breathing at the hospital) and sore ribs (from the CPR), he feels fine. Lawler reveals that the heart attack occurred due to two small blocked arteries at the bottom of his heart, one of which required a stent. Lawler credited the WWE medical staff (most notably, Dr. Michael Sampson, who performed the life-saving CPR on him) and the EMT’s that were present for saving his life and preventing any permanent damage to his mind or body. As far as a return to competition goes, “The King” commented that it will be several months before he can even think about wrestling again.
