Too Smart for his Own Good?
The eighth edition of WWE Main Event came to you from the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI. Three nights after surprising Randy Orton with a super kick en route to becoming the sole survivor for his team at Survivor Series, “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” would look to keep the momentum going as Dolph Ziggler would go one-on-one with former WWE Champion and self-proclaimed “Awesome One” The Miz.
- Dolph Ziggler def. The Miz by pin following the Zig Zag after sending The Miz chest-first into the exposed steel turnbuckle.
- Wade Barrett def. Justin Gabriel by pin following the Bull Hammer.
Before going one-on-one with Dolph Ziggler in the opening match of the night, The Miz begins to say that he is typically the most “must-hear” commentator in the WWE, but before Miz can even get a full sentence out, he is interrupted by “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler tells Miz that he is “Mr. Main Event”, reminding Miz that he was the sole survivor at Survivor Series, saying that Miz may have missed it because Miz was busy “losing”. Dolph continues that Miz is going to be “outclassed” because he is Dolph Ziggler and The Miz is not. The Miz responds, saying that everything about Ziggler is a “lie” and saying that Dolph hid behind four other Superstars at Survivor Series, just like he always hides behind Vickie Guerrero. Miz then reminds Dolph that he main evented WrestleMania last year as the WWE Champion, but Ziggler cuts Miz off, saying that everyone has heard Miz’s spiel before, asking Miz what he has done lately and saying that everyone has heard Miz say the same thing over-and-over again. Miz responds, saying that he continues to say it because it’s true, telling Dolph that everything that he has accomplished has been done on his own and, when he cashed in Money-in-the-Bank, he did it like a “man”. Miz continues, saying that Ziggler carries the Money-in-the-Bank briefcase around like a “blanky”. Dolph argues that Miz is the “past” and he is the “future” and, when people look back on the week he has had, they will be reminded that Dolph was the sole survivor at Survivor Series, took John Cena out on RAW, and finally shut Miz’s mouth on Main Event, cementing his spot as the “top Superstar” in the WWE! Miz responds, saying that Dolph will do what he always does and “choke” because Ziggler has blown every opportunity that he has ever had. Miz continues, calling Ziggler a “pit of failure and insecurity buried under a mountain of false bravado” and saying that Dolph is afraid to cash in the Money-in-the-Bank contract because Ziggler will fail to win the title and then all Dolph will have is an “old broad, an ugly teal t-shirt, and bad hair dye”, saying that will be Dolph Ziggler’s “legacy”! Ziggler responds by slapping Miz across the face, making Miz more than ready for the match!
After intense, personal insults against one another, the opening match of the night was sure to be a fight as “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” Dolph Ziggler went one-on-one with former WWE Champion The Miz. During the match, Dolph Ziggler would try every dirty tactic he could think of, from removing the protective turnbuckle pad to using the ropes for leverage in trying to pin Miz and, in the end, it would pay off as Dolph would send Miz chest-first into the exposed steel turnbuckle before hitting the Zig Zag on Miz to pick up the win. After the match, Dolph Ziggler would shoo Matt Striker away before saying that, every night, he backs up what he says and he is better than absolutely everyone on the roster and on the planet! Dolph then vows that he is “just getting started”, saying that he is not done with John Cena by a longshot and he will make “history” out of anyone who stands in his way.
“The Bareknuckle Brawler” was in action on Main Event as Wade Barrett went one-on-one with a former teammate and follower in the high-flying Justin Gabriel. In the end, it was Wade Barrett landing the Bull Hammer on Justin Gabriel en route to picking up the win.
“The Duke of Decency” Damien Sandow appeared on Main Event, saying that, next week, he will get the opportunity to rid the WWE of its most “offensive delinquit”, John Cena! Sandow continues that Cena’s hypocrisies know no end, saying that he will “purge” the WWE of John Cena next week, declaring Cena to be the WWE’s “ultimate false idol”. What will happen next week when “The Intellectual Savior” goes one-on-one with the ten-time former WWE Champion, John Cena, for the first time ever?
