The WWE Tagged Classics have always been a favourite of mine, mainly due to the fact you can view Attitude Era PPVs with no edits to the company name, no blurring on turnbuckles, t-shirts, titles, etc and that the atmosphere just seemed better. Sure, rose-tinted specs are worn when watching these events, but since that isn’t against the law (yet), I will continue to look back with fondness.

Releasing the old classics from WWE’s back catalogue is a fantastic idea and this double-set continues that great tradition. 2000 was one of the best years WWE has had from a creative and in-ring standpoint and these two PPVs are filled with great wrestling matches and guys at the peak of their career.

The Royal Rumble is my favourite WWE PPV, so this Tagged Classics collection was one I looked forward to reviewing. The first disc takes us back eight years to 2001 and the beginning of the “Road to WrestleMania”. This era was brilliant and little things like the Attitude Era opening to WWF programming, cutting to WWF New York, Earl Hebner in a WWF’s referee shirt and the wrestlers who were around at the time all add up to a nostalgia trip that never gets old.

Welcome back to my new series of columns reviewing past WWE shows, and we move on from WrestleMania to Backlash, still in the year 2002.

Welcome back to my new series of columns reviewing past WWE shows, and as its WrestleMania week, it seems only appropriate for this column to be based around WrestleMania X8.

Welcome back to my new series of columns reviewing past WWE shows, hopefully you read and enjoyed my review of the 2002 Royal Rumble, and you join me again to read about the PPV that followed on from the Rumble, No Way Out 2002.

Welcome to a new series of columns reviewing past WWE shows, heading back in time to days when Triple H and The Undertaker were the top names, Chris Jericho was putting over main event talent, and the Big Show turned heel to face and back again within the space of a few weeks.

In Your House started as a response to WCW adding to their PPV schedule. The first In Your House event actually saw the WWF run a competition to win a house in Florida and drew the winner’s name live at the event. The shows usually ran around 2hrs in length, thus were cheaper than normal PPV shows at the time, feeling more like Saturday Night Main Event specials than actual pay-per-view showcases.

Quite obviously the best thing about the ‘Tagged Classics’ series of DVD’s is that for a inviting price you get to relive and bask in some decent nostalgia from two back to back PPV affairs from consecutive years, or if not enlightened by the featured events before gives you the chance to experience what either your youthful self regrettably missed, or for other reasons you weren’t tuned to the TV set or setting the VCR the first time around. When you couple this with the inclusion of an event featuring one of the defining moments in the World Wrestling Federations history, and a crux point in the Monday Night Wars of way back when; then it makes this package doubly exciting. Of course that event is the heel turn of the Goldust, shunning his countries needs and more importantly a tag from Vader to walk out and set foot on a new trail to glory. Yes I kid, but this review does seem to be a minefield waiting for the words ‘screw’ and ‘job’ to rear their heads and it to cloud over the rest of what is on offer here.

There have been a ton of better matches. There have been a great deal of better under cards. Better wrestlers have existed and plied their craft. Hell, there have been better wrestling events as a whole if we were to get nitpicky. But as a spectacle, few nights can beat the third annual Wrestlemania.

Its Wrestlemania time again folks, time to dust of the Wrestlemania Videos (or DVD’s) and satisfy yourself with some great ‘Mania nostalgia in the build up to the big event. Wrestlemania has provided so many great moments and matches in its 20 year history, I always find it hard to pick a definitive moment that I can truly say is my favourite. However, one of my top ten ‘Mania moments came right here at this Wrestlemania, so without further a do, lets look at Wrestlemania VII.

This is my first review for Wrestling101 and I’m going to be taking a look at Silvervision’s Tagged Classics release of the first two Survivor Series, which took place in 1987 and 1988.

Since it interception in 1988, Summerslam has provided wrestling fans with some of the best matches and moments in WWE history. Who can forget Summerslam ‘91 when Bret Hart defeated Mr. Perfect for the WWE Intercontinental championship, or at Summerslam ‘95 when Shawn Michaels took on Razor Ramon in a thrilling ladder match. Even in recent years we have seen some quality matches, for example Shawn Michael’s triumphant return match at Summerslam 2002 against Triple H. But, out of all the Summerslam events, there is one that sticks out in my mind as my personal favorite, Summerslam 1992, Why? Well read on to find out.

Its classic review time yet again here at Wrestling 101, and this month I decided to dust down the WWF Backlash achieve and select the best Backlash PPV in its short 5 year history. Now I wanted to actually review Backlash 2000, in which the Rock took on Triple H in a good match, and Chris Benoit fought Chris Jericho is one of their classic matches from 2000, however , as usual things didn’t go to plan as I couldn’t find the Backlash 2000 tape anywhere, so you’ll have to do with Backlash 1999, which all in all, isn’t a bad PPV at all.

1992 was a pretty lousy year overall for WWE and Vince McMahon; the first rumblings of the forthcoming steroid and sex scandal was brewing, and numerous workers were on the way out by WrestleMania VIII. Indeed, this show was the swan song for Roddy Piper, Sid Justice and Hulk Hogan, who would be off WWE television for most of the rest of the year.

For most fans of the WWE, this time of the year has to be the most exciting as we all wait in anticipation for one the biggest date in the wrestling calendar, Wrestlemania! Since 1985 Wrestlemania has been the jewel in the crown of the WWE, providing some of the most memorable matches and moments in wrestling history. As the WWE celebrate the 20th Wrestlemania, I have decided to go back 10 years and look at Wrestlemania X “10 years in the making” and look at how that event shaped up…

Crazy, you’re driving me crazy, with your sweet little smile, you’re heartbreak eyes, see right through me hypnotise me, ……………take me, hold be close, but don’t break me ………….blah…..blah, my sweet Valentine” That’s right folks, its Classic WWE review time once again, and this time we are not delving too far back into the wrestling past, only a few years or so, as we go back to February 1999 to look at WWF St. Valentines Day Massacre.

Hey Ho folks, welcome to another Video Vault review, now I know its been a while since I last delved deep into the archives of the wrestling world, but in this installment I intend to make up for lost time by reviewing one of the best WWE events ever. As the countdown to this years Royal Rumble starts, I thought it only right to take a nostalgic look into the history of Royal Rumble events and try find the best Royal Rumble ever. The task wasn’t hard at all, its one of my personal favourites and easily the greatest Royal Rumble ever.

Royal Rumble 2002 was billed as being one of the most star studded Royal Rumbles ever, with the likes of Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Undertaker and Kurt Angle all being included in the Royal Rumble match, plus the return of some old WWE faces in Goldust, Mr. Prefect, Val Venis and The Godfather, the Royal Rumble should have been something spectacular. Find out if it was.
