UK Scene #101

We enter a new era today as the column goes over the 100 mark. Since the interview Pabster did with myself last week to celebrate the 100th column I have been in contact with many guys involved in the UK Scene and they have all left me some very nice messages which I will share with you in the column. You will also get all of this along with me bringing you up to date with the latest news as well as me exclusively revealing another new columnist to join Wrestling 101’s UK Scene.

Ok so let’s start with getting the 100th celebrations done and dusted. Like I said at the top a lot of people I respect within the UK Scene have been in touch this week and had this to say about reaching my 100th:

Adam’s UK Scene column is one of the first places we look for all our British wrestling news. What we like the most is the fact that Adam brings a freshness and enthusiasm to his reporting that make even a dull night in Felixstowe seem like a WWE main event!”

Lilsboys – Sun online wrestling journalists

Hi Adam, congrats on your 100th column (from someone who’s writing number six right now!), and here’s to the next ton. I do genuinely always read your column, and it’s good to read an article written by someone knowledgeable and respectful to the wrestlers and the business. It’s informative and insightful. Keep up the good work!

Dean Ayass – FWA worker and fellow columnist

“Adam Sibley is one of few Internet writers who actually researches his stories and shows genuine integrity in his reporting – Happy 100th!”

Scott Future – RBW wrestler and trainer.

We spend a lot of time on the road and do not have much time to catch up on the events going on around the country. It’s great to checkout UK Scene so we can get up to date info and some exclusives- sometimes they know where we will be working before we do! The reviews and interviews Adam does are always informative and he doesn’t take the piss or ask stupid questions like some people! Congrats on 100 columns – here’s to many more – cheers!

The UK Pitbulls – Top UK tag team

I have personally been taken a back by the response from last week and am very thankful to everyone for their kind words and for the thread that got started on the UK Scene forum wishing me well. It has meant a lot to me and has given me even more motivation to try and improve the column even further.

Now back on to UK Scene news:

X-Wrestling have been busy once again in the recent weeks announcing more details about the big event in 2004. This week they have announced more details on the VIP package and confirming yes you guessed it more American stars to add to their card for Revolution. This week they have announced Buff Bagwell as the latest addition to their roster. The venue has also been announced and it is none other than the Dome in Doncaster. For more information on the event go to http://www.xwrestling.co.uk

Speaking of US stars in the UK after a very successful showing many years ago at Evil Intentions in Halifax Sabu is coming back to headline a UK promotion tour this time for UCW. He will be appearing at Salisbury and Frome on the 8th and 9th of April…could we see him added to the X-Wrestling roster I wonder?

We will have to go cold turkey from FWA I am afraid for 8 weeks as they take a rest period from promoting shows to get everything in order behind the scenes and hit 2004 running. It may be a rest period for the fans but it certainly won’t be for the hard working team at FWA as they plan ahead for 2004 as well as making sure all the video releases are up to date and put on general release. With the new company they have got in to produce the videos you can expect even better production values and after speaking to many inside the FWA they say it is looking mainstream TV ready which is good to hear.

All Star have moved in to the Southampton Guildhall taking over the reigns from TWA with their latest event last night (11/12/03). The event was an all British card with many so called old school wrestlers on the card. So it looks like All Star are following on the TWA tradition and I hope it does well for them as it is a good wrestling venue. I am unsure how well they are drawing there at the moment though as it would be interesting to see how well they are doing in comparison to when TWA use to run it. David Flair and Gangrel have been announced to be working on upcoming All Star tours in 2004.

As you may have read on the newsboard after extending their facilities in to Ireland NWA-UK are now moving in to Wales in 2004. The new training facility will be in Cardiff but it is unsure yet if they will be a branch off promotion like NWA-Ireland has turned in to. All NWA-UK need to do now is grow in to Scotland then they would have all the local countries covered.

Due to my celebrations over the last few weeks I haven’t had chance to formally welcome FCW to the UK Scene forum. Yes that’s right they now have their own sub forum all to themselves within the UK board. So if you are a worker or fan you can chat about anything FCW related. Got a question or query about them and that is the best place to start and to chat with people involved in the organisation.

Now I have left the best news story to last which is the news you have all been waiting for, the announcement of the latest addition to the UK Scene team. Now last week I announced Baxter Burridge this week I am proud to announce we will now have two of my favourite wrestlers working for this site. The man in question can be none other than RBW wrestler and trainer Scott Future.

Scott has been involved in the UK Scene for years now although he still seems young. Scott has a wealth of experience working for various promotions in the UK and across the world. Scott has caught the eye of many wrestling fans and is widely talked about and tipped for bigger things. Everyone at Wrestling101 would like to welcome Scott and we look forward to reading his columns.

I have been in contact with both Baxter and Scott and they are beavering away on their first editions as we speak.

If you have not done the FWL yet – you only have until Sunday night (just before WWE Armageddon starts) to get your entries in.  Lets see if any of you can beat my team! 🙂

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
