Welcome one and all once again to another weekly dose of the UK Scene column. This week I will be discussing many issues making the news including news on the latest promotion to champion themselves as “the next big thing” and the major signing they’ve made. On top of this I will be discussing upcoming events, The Wrestling channel and a few other items making the news this week. So which promotion am I talking about when I say the next big thing I hear you ask well it can only be NCW (National Championship Wrestling). This week after having a quiet build up to their first event they decided to make their intentions clear by signing Shane Douglas for the debut event in which I believe will be his first appearance for a UK based promotion and I can’t think of a better way of stating your attentions by announcing this signing.

This announcement was very much needed mind as although it only seems like we just heard about them forming a few weeks ago their debut event is little over a month away. This is the first US star they have added to the line up which keeps in line with the likes of promotions trying to hold big events this year including the likes of ICW and X-Wrestling. I think people will go to see NCW purely because of Douglas being on the card as this is one guy the fans in the UK have been wanting to see for ages and is one of the few big name US stars left that haven’t come to our shores to work for a UK promotion so I think they are on to a winner.

Now after this announcement NCW need to back this up with a good run up to the event and a brilliant event on the 13th of March. The strong card of UK wrestlers already assembled along with the news that more names may be added the event is really starting to take shape. UK wrestlers on the event include Scott Future, UK Pitbulls and Five Star Flash to name a few. This event will be seen as the measuring stick for big events to come this year as it will be one of the first big shows attempted this year. For more information on how to get tickets for this event go to: NCWUKco.uk

Speaking of announcing foreign imports ICW have revealed this week that German sensation X-Dream has been booked to take part in their round robin tournament to declare a World Wrestling Champion. All of this added to the big Lo-Ki vs. Steve Corino fight this has the potential to be another good event. The event takes place on April 24th from the Darwen Leisure centre in Lancashire for more information please visit: ICW.org.uk

Now normally February 14th is the day to celebrate love well not this year as I doubt there will be much love on display at the two big wrestling events that weekend. The first big event will be WAW’s 2nd annual St. Valentine’s Day Massacre from The Talk in Norwich. This event is normally a highlight of the year’s calendar for WAW and this year will hopefully be no exception. I am yet to have a card for the event but the prospect is mouth watering with the likes of WAW regulars Ricky Knight, Zebra Kid and the UK Pitbulls all of these will be joined by the FWA’s Alex Shane. For further details on this event log on to: WAWwestling.co.uk

The other big event on February the 14th will be happening north of the border and will be the first event of 2004 for SCW two years on from their debut show. Lions Rampant II will take pace at SCW’s regular venue Greenock Town Hall. The card is looking very impressive with the likes of Majik, The Nattrass boys and Andy Hogg all in action to name just a few. The event will also feature an intriguing fly the flag ladder match between Saltire and Aidan Corrigan. For more information on this event log on to: ScottishCW.com

So remember February 14th maybe the day of love but this year it’s a night of hard hitting action, why not treat your loved one to a ticket to one of these great events which will be doing something spontaneous instead of another candlelight dinner.

This week has seen the start of the second run of test broadcasts by The Wrestling Channel on Friendly TV. After a successful run at the end of last year The Wrestling Channel are running again with a new set of programmes for you to watch which is a treat for you UK Scene fans as this time around you get to see FWA Vendetta and another brilliant IWW event.

The latest test run will fill the gap and keep the anticipation mounting to the big launch on March 15th. This will then be the test for the station as it goes on its own without working through other channels. If this proves to be a success it could mean big news for some UK Scene promotions as it puts British Wrestling in the shop window and what better promotion to have representing Britain than the FWA. So it’s a case of toes and fingers crossed that the launch goes off without a hitch as after months of waiting I think the wrestling fans of Britain don’t want to be let down like they have been many times before.

The UK Pitbulls this week officially announced their list of sponsors for 2004. The impressive list includes LA Muscle, misterwrestling.com (wrestling gear supplier), Wild West beef jerky and Inkwork Tattoos. Hopefully it will be another successful year for one of the most dominant tag teams in the UK in recent times and with all these sponsors lined up I’m sure it will be.

Thanks once again for reading guys, before I go would just like to thank Carl Smith who most of you guys will know from previous sites he has run and his general knowledge of the UK scene for all his help sending in results for the newsboard it has been very appreciated.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
