Welcome one and all once again to another ramble through the latest happenings in the UK Scene. After a week away travelling the country I am back at my desk finding out what has been happening since I have been gone. So this week I will be discussing Lee Butler taking over the big ICW Hostile Intent show, the big FWA Crunch weekend and the new additions to the UKPW roster.

After months of waiting and anticipation for ICW biggest shows ever the event has taken another turn. It has been announced this week by GPW owner Lee Butler that due to personal reasons ICW promoter Kev Iddon can no longer promote the Hostile Intent card so he has taken over the running and promoting of the show. So if you have tickets for the big show on April 24th in Darwen don’t panic as the event is still going ahead.

GPW will be bringing their high production values to the show including the huge Garagetron, strobe lighting and pyro. The aim is to bring you a show to the same or better standard that advertised already. To do this they have kept the main announced matches as they were but added a few of their own. The card currently looks like this:

  • Chris Hero vs. B-Boy (2 out of 3 falls for the GPW international title)

  • Jonny Storm, X Dream and Jorge Costano will face off in a round robin for number one contender to the GPW international title.

  • Pippa le Vin vs. Shelby Beach

  • Damon Leigh vs. Joey Hayes

The card promises to bring you the best of American Indy wrestling, British wrestling and up and coming GPW stars. More matches will be announced closer to the date. The event is now less than two weeks away so it was brave of Lee to save the day and keep this event going and I hope it pays off and is a big success.

What does all this mean for the future of ICW. I first heard of them before I started writing this column. Nothing ever seemed to go past having a website, no events or training sessions were announced. During this time Kev Iddon continued to be well known in the UK Scene for one reason or another and finally in the last year decided to announced that he was going to be putting on regular shows.

He then got people talking as he secured the services of Steve Corino and Low-Ki for the Hostile Intent card and booked them against each other in a match that got people talking and that people wanted to see. The dram of bringing this match to the UK was ended when due to other bookings they couldn’t appear on the show. With this Kev scrambled another top notch main event booking Chris Hero against B-Boy keeping the hype about the event up. Let’s just hope now Lee can keep the hype up and put on a top notch show everyone here at Wrestling101 would like to wish him well in his latest venture.

This weekend FWA have taken to the road hot off the heels of the Frontiers of Honour weekend. Their vow when they took their winter break was to come back and put on more live events than ever and they are living up to the promise. The weekend started on Thursday with a show at the Morecambe dome and ends on Easter Sunday at the Broxbourne Civic Hall for Crunch weekend.

The card for the big Crunch event that ended the weekend of action looks like this:

  • Doug Williams vs. D.Lo Brown for the FWA title

  • Jonny Storm vs. Sonjay Dutt for the XPW European title

  • Zebra Kid vs. Hade Vansen in a ladder match for the All England title

  • Jack Xavier vs. Alex Shane in a last man standing match

Stephen has a full preview of FWA Crunch which you can read by clicking here.

Also happening this weekend is the first ever FWA Unsigned event which is being filmed for a new series on The Wrestling Channel. This sees stars from other promotions doing showcase matches for their prospective promotions. The card for the event looked like this:

  • FWA Bonus Match
    Doug Williams Vs Sonjay Dutt

  • WZW Match
    Domino Vs Spitfire

  • GPW Match
    Damon Leigh Vs Joey Hayes

  • AIWF (GB) Match
    Johnny Phere Vs Dirk Feelgood

  • Tap Match
    Spud Vs Jack Storm

  • FWA Academy Match
    Eamon Shrahan Vs Max Voltage

  • Future Shock Wrestling School (Manchester)
    Mike Bishop Vs X

  • RBW Match
    Sammy Ray Vs Ethan Hayze

  • EWP (Germany) Vs FWA Academy
    Murat Bosporus Vs Stixx

UKPW have been busy this week adding some more talent to their already impressive roster. UKPW have acquired the services of one of the most promising groups of wrestlers in the UK that is of course the Natrass Boyz. On top of this they have added Tom Stevens and Ian Logan who has wrestled against many up and coming stars of the FWA academy. These stars could make their debut as early as UKPW’s event in Southampton on the 23rd of April.

To end with this week I must announce that due to demand not being there WZW have been forced to cancel their B-Boy wrestling seminar that was planned for April 25th in Newcastle. Anyone who has already booked will receive a full refund.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
