UK Scene #121

Welcome one all to another exciting slice of news, views and opinions on the UK grapple game. The column comes to you in a week that has been full of controversy in the British wrestling scene as allegations spiralled out of control, giving a rather bad impression to non wrestling related people looking in. I will try and steer things back on track as usual by trying to talk about the positives in the UK Scene right now…

The column comes to you in a week that has been full of controversy in the British wrestling scene as allegations spiralled out of control, giving a rather bad impression to non wrestling related people looking in. We are now less than a week away from the resurrection of one of my favourite all time UK promotions that being of course Extreme World Warfare. Their return has been a long time coming but hopefully on Friday they will show us all that it was worth the wait and that they are back better than ever with their comeback event at The Palace Nightclub in Witney, Oxford.

With all the new promotions starting and with some established groups falling by the wayside I think now is the time more than ever for a dominant force from the past to comeback and re-establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with. After attending many of their shows the first time they were around I think EWW are the people to do just that. If they are successful with their comeback this could be the shot in the arm that the UK Scene has been crying out for as of late.

Their comeback show entitled “Resurrection” has a lot to live up to especially after the sign off show EWW put on before they went on their hiatus from the UK scene that of course was the highly acclaimed “Castled.” The card for the event is looking very strong top to bottom and with EWW now under the sole leadership of Stu Allen it will be interesting to see which way he decides to take the company. All of which will be unveiled this Friday in Oxford. The card currently shapes up like this:

  • Barbed Wire Death Match
    Overlords vs. Flatliner & Madcow

  • Falls count anywhere
Justin Richards vs. Cyclone vs. Ashe vs. Phil Bedwell

  • Number 1 contender match
    Francisco Capone vs. Jonny Storm

  • Stevie Knight vs. Phil Powers

  • Necrosis vs. Psycho Silvera

I have had a lot of emails this week regarding wrestling training in the UK I thought I would talk about it a bit this week as it is obviously a subject a lot of the readers are interested in. There has been a lot of big news this week on the wrestling training front which should find something to please everyone.

If you like in the Stoke-on-Trent area I have some brilliant news for you. One of the top British female wrestlers of recent history Klondyke Kate has decided to open her High Impact Wrestling academy in the area. The school is set to open in six weeks time and will be partnered by top British Wrestlers Justin Starr and Phil Powers. If you want more information on the academy email: high_impact@btinternet.com.

British wrestling great Robbie Brookside will be holding a wrestling clinic this June. Yes that’s right if you want an insight in to the world of professional wrestling from a guy that’s has been in the business since the World of Sport days and has competed all over the world you don’t want to miss this. The event take place on the 19th and 20th of June at the Littlemoor Community Centre in Weymouth. The price for either day is £50 and you can book a place by ringing John on 07960299690.

To add to this it has been announced during the week that Stevie Knight will be holding a six hour training session for 3CW on May 30th. The training session is a very affordable £10 and will take place in the Sandhill Centre in Sunderland. For more information please email: training@3cw.co.uk.

So I hope that little training round up has helped everyone find something that might appeal to them. Don’t forget to check out the UK Wrestling Training Schools Links section at Wrestling Directory for more links.

The FWA put their troubles behind them this week and put on another card from the Winter Gardens in Cleethorpes, one of their regular stops on their tours across the country. The all British card put on a highly entertaining show from all counts to send the fans home happy. Saying this though the event was not without trouble as a lot of the set and equipment didn’t show up so they had to rally round and do the best with what they had. You can read the results in the Newsletter this week’s thanks to our star reporter and journalist Goldy.

Doug Williams has added a whole host of new foreign destinations to his world tour this summer. He has confirmed he will be working for NOAH in Japan from the 14th of May through to the beginning of June. He has already made a title defence for ACW in Germany this month and after Japan he will be off to France to perform for 2PC in June which I mentioned about last week finishing it all off with running training sessions for IWW in Ireland this July. Looks like Doug has a busy summer ahead of him and everyone from Wrestling101 would like to wish him every success on his travels.

Lastly, if any of you UK wrestling promoters didn’t receive an email from Wrestling 101 last week about how the website can help you (getting events listed in the calendar, news on the newsboard and lots more) please contact me and I’ll get the information to you.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
