Welcome one and all to this weeks UK Scene column brought to you by me, Goldy, for this weeks edition. Fresh from managing to get my tickets to see the live TV taping of Raw at the MEN Arena in October after a long lie in too, not quite the sell out we presumed, as yet…. But it’s the UK Scene you came here for and It’s been a very busy week on the ol’ UK front with lots of news to report. I will be paying tribute to the British wrestling legend and actor Pat Roach who sadly passed away this week, as well as discussing all the latest upcoming events and talking about the ‘Rebirth’ of Scottish wrestling…..

I’ll begin with the very sad news we never wanted to hear that being Pat Roach has lost his battle with cancer. Pat ‘Bomber’ Roach died in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Pat was a true British wrestling legend as well as being a very accomplished actor who starred in the hugely popular comedy Auf Weidersehn Pet as well as many others programmes and films including Life With Billy, Never Say Never Again and Robin Hood, Prince Of Thieves to name a few.

Born on the 19th of May in Birmingham, Pat Roach became British Heavyweight Champion in 1986 defeating Ray Steele. He vacated the title after a short time though, to follow his acting career with Auf Wiedersehn Pet, becoming immensely popular.

In the early 90’s Pat became the European Heavyweight Champion losing it and reclaiming it from Giant Haystacks in 1991. Pat was last seen in the wrestling circle working for the FWA as their commissioner a role he was stepping down from due to his illness.

Pat will be sadly missed, I think I can speak for everyone in sending our sincerest condolences to Pats friends and family, from everyone here at Wrestling 101 and Talk Wrestling Online.

Now onto some happier news for the UK scene. Doug Williams has become the new ROH Pure Wrestling champion! Doug who is also FWA champion defeated Alex Shelley to win the match after both men won a four corners match earlier in the night to get the chance to be in the final. He was fresh from wrestling for IWW in Dublin where Doug again continued his winning streak by defeating both Blake Norton and Scottie Mac in a triple threat match.

Doug will be competing for ROH until later this month where he returns to the UK to wrestle for the FWA live in Morecambe on the 31st of July and for Premier Promotions as well. Unfortunately this means that Mr.Williams won’t be at the FWAs Vendetta show taking place this weekend at the Broxbourne Civic Hall in Hertfordshire.

Which leads me nicely onto Vendetta 2004!

As everyone’s probably aware by now AJ Styles will be the US talent for this FWA show with both X Dream and Double C being the other foreign talent that’s being announced this week.

X Dream and Double C both represent Germany’s WXW, both men will face each other for the WXW Title! which has been held by some famous names including Chris Hero and Ian Rotten.

Styles will be facing the awesome talent James Tighe in a card that’s shaping up nicely. Also AJ will be holding his first ever European Wrestling Seminar at the Future Shock Wrestling School in Manchester on Saturday the 24th July. Here is how the rest of the card looks:

  • Gold Ringside Dark Match: Mark Sloan vs. Jack Hazard

  • Ricky Knight Vs The Zebra Kid

  • Hade Vansen © Vs Jack Xavier (All-England title match)

  • WXW Title Match: Double C vs. X-Dream

  • Aviv Mayaan Vs Mark ‘5 Star’ Mark Belton

  • Hampton court Vs Family © (FWA Tag-Team titles match)

  • AJ Styles Vs James Tighe.

  • Plus, the announcement of the new FWA commissioner.

FCW are also in action this weekend, presenting ‘Under Siege‘ on Sunday 25th of July at their regular haunt in the Baggeridge Social Welfare Centre in Lower Gornal, West Midlands. The main event has been announced with the FCW Champion “The Sensation Of The Nation” Rob Hunter teaming up with “Tomcat” Kevin O’Neil to take on the team of Laken Xander and respected UK wrestler “Wildcat” Robbie Brookside.

This is Brooksides first time in FCW and I’m sure he will be a great addition. I shall be in attendance as ever and am very much looking forwards to the show. Also on the card will be the excellent Party Boys who are up against Swift Justice! Tickets cost just £5 and doors open at 7pm. For more information check out FutureWrestling.co.uk.

In other FCW news this Tuesday July 20th several stars of Future Championship Wrestling will be invading the studio’s of 105.2 Kerrang FM. They will be discussing their upcoming shows in the area as well as a host of other things.

They will be guests on the “The Asylum” with DJ Tim Shaw which runs from 11pm Sunday to Thursdays. “The Asylum” is known for being a little crazy, so whose knows what will happen when the wrestlers drop by. You can tune into the show on Kerrang 105.2FM. Every bit of promotion helps and who knows where this could lead!

After Scottish Championship Wrestling closed their doors earlier this year the Scottish Wrestling Alliance (SWA) quickly announced themselves as one of the leading company’s in Scottish Wrestling but could they live up to their promise to deliver the same high quality shows previously seen by SCW fans?

All was revealed this weekend as SWA opened their doors for their debut show this past Saturday evening. They drew an impressive attendance of 200 plus fans which generated a very good atmosphere to wrestle in. All the wrestlers you’ve come to expect in Scottish Wrestling were on the card including Cameron Knight, Andy Hogg, Sabotage, Chris Charisma, Total Annihilation, Aidan Corrigan, Conscience, Falcon, Edgar Stryfe, Danny Oxmon, White Tiger amongst others and not forgetting Majik who retained his NWA-UK Junior Heavyweight Title against ‘The Pigman’ Andy Hogg in what I hear was a contender for the match of the night honours.

SWA have a new website for anyone wanting to find out any more news and information at SWA.t2u.com.

wZw are holding three back to back shows this summer featuring all your favourite wZw stars. After two previous sell out shows, they are returning to the place that wZw like to call home, Whitley Bay. No matches are booked as of yet but knowing wZw these shows are going to go down a storm.

WAW have had a busy week, with two big announcements from them! The first being that they are starting up their first ever womens training seminar. If you’re a female wanting to learn the skills involved in professional wrestling this is the place for you. Your trainers will be the original Superflys, Jimmy Ocean & Ricky Knight, Tony Barron, Sweet Saraya & Zebra Kid, who together boast a combined total of over a hundred years of experience in the British wrestling industry.

If you would like some more information, please email sweetsaraya@hotmail.com .
Remember you can catch both Ricky Knight and The Zebra Kid in action this Sunday at the FWAs Vendetta show in a father against son match up!

The other announcement from WAW was that twenty-five year ring veteran Jimmy Ocean will be the guest trainer at WAW’s training weekend on the 7th & 8th August. Don’t miss this chance to learn from one of wrestling’s greats. For more information and to book your place, email sweetsaraya@hotmail.com.

It’s good to see so many former wrestlers and not forgetting current wrestlers giving up their time to help teach and guide the current crop of youngsters ready to learn the ropes of professional wrestling.

It’s Saracens turn next week to bring you his take on the UK Scene happenings, have a good fortnight and thank you all for reading.
