Hey everyone, welcome to this weeks UK Scene column, It’s Goldy with you this week in what’s been a very hectic period for UK wrestling! I myself have been to two shows this past week, with many more events taking place around the country! I’ll be bringing you all the latest IWP news for tonight’s ‘Supershow’ in Hull, as well as the latest FCW, FWA, SWA and MPW news amongst others! So please sit back, grab something cold to drink and enjoy.

Let’s begin with the FWA who’ve had a particularly busy schedule this past week, hot on the heels of Vendetta 2004 where we saw Phill ‘Flash’ Barker become the new FWA commissioner, Hade Vanson remain the All England Champion and James Tighe turn heel after defeating the phenomenal AJ Styles. I am thoroughly pleased that Flash Barker is continuing in the wrestling business as he’s been very much missed!

FWA put on by all accounts another excellent show last night in Morecambe Bay. Nice to see FWA using wrestlers from other federations including AIWF wrestlers Johnny Phere and Dirk Feelgood as well as FCW regulars Jack Storm and Spud and WAW’s Sweet Saraya.

The best news of all though was the announcement by John Atkins that Brian ‘Spanky’ Kendrick will be over for the FWA Morecombe show on the 4th of September as well as Hotwired the following day! I know this is a UK column but Spanky is one US wrestler I seriously mark out for and I’m sure this news will make the show a sell out! I’ll be there for definite and if FWA are listening, please put Spanky against Jonny Storm! Pretty please?! Seriously, who ever he faces it should be a damn good match.

Whilst AJ Styles was in the country he found time to visit IwW “Lock-Up” students, AJ talked to the students and showed them a few tips, tricks & techniques. Some pictures from this event can be found on the TWO UK Scene forum.

You can catch the FWA in Enfield this Saturday at the Southbury Leisure Centre. Tickets are currently on sale via the box office on 07930 218 243 or by buying them direct from the venue. There will be a Round Robin Tournament. There hasn’t been a Round Robin tournament since Season Beating’s 2002 which was a huge success. Names announced for this match so far are James Tighe, Jack Xavier and Spud, who will be the fourth? Keep your eyes peeled to FrontierWrestling.com for all the latest FWA news.

To complete this weeks FWA news, before it becomes the FWA column! It’s been announced that the first ever Future Shock Wrestling show takes place on Saturday 14th August. Matches announced so far are:

  • James Tighe versus Damon Leigh
  • Alex Shane versus Declan O’Conor (formerly X)
  • Nikita versus Minx
  • Plus Doug Williams will be in action.

This show takes place at the Stockport Guildhall in Stockport no less lol, doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Tickets cost £14 front row ringside, £9 Adults & £5 for under 14’s. You can phone 07749 420283 to get your tickets.

Dam promotions are also running a show this Saturday the 7th of August at the Weybourne Village Hall, Norfolk, doors open at 7pm for a 7.45pm start. Tickets cost £7 on the door or a fiver in advance. The card has this week been announced as:

  • Title Match: Ricky Knight vs Zebra Kidd
  • Big Dave vs Sabotage
  • Bulk vs a Mystery opponent
  • Battle Royal
  • A guest match still to be confirmed

Now onto one of the shows I went to watch last weekend that being FCW’s ‘Under Siege’. This was a brilliantly entertaining show and for just a fiver it’s a complete bargain! FCW sold out Baggeridge which was no mean feat considering it did clash with a couple of other UK shows, making for a fabulous atmosphere!

Again ‘The Party Boys’ were wonderfully entertaining, they have to be seen to be believed! Swift Justice made for great opponents as both teams are excellent at the comedy routine that accompanies their wrestling.

It was also nice to see Robbie Brookside have a good match in his FCW debut, ‘Desirable’ Danny D was another making his debut, Danny owner of AWW Promotions and former K-Star wrestler decided to focus on Marc Hogans career and installed himself as Marc’s ‘manager’! I’m sure Danny is going to be a huge asset to FCW as his heel mic work and charisma, or should that be lack of charisma? was very entertaining! Not forgetting it’s always nice to see Cameron Knite on a show! If you haven’t yet been to an FCW event it is well worth the journey.

This week FCW have announced their next Baggeridge show details, its going to be called ‘Redemption’ featuring a ladies match between “Sensational” Shelby Beach and Pippa L’Vinn. The show takes place on the 29th August. For more information on FCW check out FutureWrestling.co.uk.

Tonight see’s the debut of IWPs ‘The Gathering’ Supershow as it’s been billed as. Featuring a host of your favorite UK wrestlers, matches include:

  • Alex Shane V Stevie Lynn
  • James Tighe V Aviv Maayan
  • Doug Williams V Zebra Kid V Burchill
  • Team England (Team Captain: Paul Tyrell, Spud and Kev ‘O’ Neil) V Team Scotland (Team Captain: Spinner McKenzie, ‘The Highlander’ Colin Mckay and ‘Thee’ Drew Galloway w/Charles Boddington)
  • Also on the cars is Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts and the UK Pitbulls. Phil Powers has unfortunately pulled out of the show so now Ricky Knight will be facing Dirk Feelgood.

This show happens at the Vulcan Arena, KC Stadium, Hull. The box office is now closed for this event with alot of tickets already being sold out, remaining tickets on the door will be limited so it may be wise to get there early. Door Opens 6.15pm, Show time starts At 7.15pm and tickets cost £10 Adults and £6 children.

Speaking of Jake’The Snake’ Roberts he competes for WAW this Monday, going up against “Flying” Phil Powers. Roberts and Powers have had a long-standing rivalry that stretches back to the beginning of the year, and they have fought each other all over the country. At the Summer Sizzler, they’ll be bringing their war to WAW.

Tickets for the shows are £8 for adults and £6 for children and can be obtained in one of the following ways, by telephone on 01493 844447or in person by visiting the Atlantis Resort on Marine Parade in Yarmouth.

The other show I went to see was K-Stars Deadly Alliance II show. This was the first time I’ve seen K-Star in action and my fellow columnist Saracen who did very well in his match. I’m sure Saracen will want to tell you more about the show and how it went down in this very column next week so watch this space…

SWA’s next event will be called Retribution. At Rebirth, Majik accepted Aidan Corrigan’s challenge for the NWA UK Junior Heavyweight Championship, but due to a serious ligament injury, Majik will not be able to defend his title. This doesn’t mean Corrigan will get away with making the challenge, however, as Majik will be at Retribution with a replacement for Corrigan. So instead of Aidan Corrigan versus Majik, Aidan will have to prepare for a mystery opponent.

Majik is unfortunately out of action for three months from this injury, everyone here at Wrestling 101 would like to wish him well in his recovery. Also scheduled to appear on the show are ‘The Pigman’ Andy Hogg, Karl Harker, White Tiger, Jonny Milla and CJ Hunter and all your favorite SWA stars.

Retribution takes place at the Sir Matt Busby Sports Centre, Bells Hill, date to follow! Doors open at 6pm and tickets can be purchased directly from the venue. Alternatively, they can also be purchased by emailing events@swa.t2u.com . Tickets are also available through SWA staff and members of Area 52. Ticket prices are: £7 for adults, £5 for under 14’s or £22 for a family ticket which allows two adults.

On a side note Wrestling101 columnist Eddie Murdoch has done a very good review of SWA’s debut show ‘Rebirth’ which is now up here.

Last weeks MPWs show was by all accounts an awesome show, I am determined to get down to Coventry for their next event there. Unfortunately Peacekeeper lost a contract match and has now left MPW, this is a shame and I’d like to wish him good luck with all his future endeavours.

IwW is having an All Irish Wrestling show featuring Lee Butler, Joey Cabray, Alex, Red Vinny, Galldubh and many more. The venue is: Peaders, Rathdowney, Co. Laois this Sunday, August 8th at 4pm.Tickets cost €5 on the door.

It was very respectful to see several shows having a minutes silence and 10 bell salute in memory of actor and former wrestler Pat Roach. This was a nice touch and I’m sure it’s appreciated by Pat’s friends and family.

Before I finish up I have a couple of bits of interesting news regarding TWO and Wrestling101. The first being that I am going to be reviewing some of WARs quality DVDs/Videos for Wrestlig 101, so look out for that which will be coming soon!

Also the TWO Newsletter will from this week be appearing in your inbox on a Wednesday instead of the weekend. This is good news for us fans of UK Wrestling especially with most shows taking place on a weekend, meaning that all the show news and results will be bang up to date!

That’s everything for this week, I’ll see you again in a fortnight, now I can go eat my ice lolly! Let’s hope this good weather continues and thank you for reading.
