FWA Morecambe News Update

WEEKEND HORRIBILUS PLANNED FOR DOUG?

There has been speculation ever since their heated confrontation at the last FWA Live show in Morecambe (see the footage available for download on this website) that ‘The Showstealer’ Alex Shane is determined to get revenge on FWA British Heavyweight Champion ‘The Anarchist’ Doug Williams .

Rumours that the nefarious Managing Director of the FWA is planning a punishing Hotwired weekend for the champ increased when it was leaked to www.frontierwrestling.com that Alex is personally searching for an opponent to challenge The Anarchist for the belt in Morecambe. There are also rumours that Shane is looking outside the boundaries of the FWA for this hired gun – and maybe even outside of Europe itself.

It is also looking increasingly likely that Doug will not discover the identity of his challenger until the night of the show itself. A source close to a member of FWA management told www.frontierwrestling.com that Alex Shane has been successful in convincing the board that having a surprise opponent will not only be a tantalising mystery for the Morecambe fans, but also create a fresh challenge to keep the champion on his toes. This was despite misgivings from FWA Commissioner Flash Barker, who we understand secretly believes the Showstealer is abusing his power as head booker in order to play mind games with Doug ahead of such a crucial title defence. Bearing in mind Alex’s hatred for Doug Williams and his determination to create plenty of problems for the FWA Heavyweight Champion, Flash could well have a point.

It is now for certain that Doug’s opponent on September 4 will be neither James Tighe nor Colt Cabana as they have been signed to face each other at Morecambe. This will be another tough test for Tighe and his new more aggressive ring style and a classic battle of styles between the serious technician and the fun-loving American. The signing of this match will surely also increase speculation as to how both Tighe and Cabana will fit into the picture at Broxbourne the following night and all should be revealed by our next news update.

In other news, Ross Jordan has asked FWA management for a match on the Morecambe show. Ross has never won at the Morecambe Dome, having lost back-to-back matches (to Stixx on June 26 and to James Tighe on July 31) and since then many of his friends and colleagues have apparently been ribbing the Little Dragon that the Dome is something of an unlucky venue for him. Refusing to believe in jinxes, Ross demanded an opportunity to break his duck. A suitable opponent was quickly found, and in his FWA debut it will be member of Alex Shane’s Personal Security, Leroy Kincade. This choice of opponent seems extremely convenient for the Showstealer, given his history of animosity towards Ross Jordan.

We also have some further developments regarding the final Morecambe Raffle of 2004. Remember, first prize will be a brand new DVD player and a DVD copy of episodes of FWA TV on The Wrestling Channel, starting at Episode 1. Frontierwrestling.com has learned that this DVD will include the best of the action from the FWA New Frontiers weekend, including the awesome impromptu showdown between Alex Shane and Steve Corino, the tremendous pre-show promo by CM Punk and his subsequent match with Raven , Mark ‘Five Star’ Belton ‘s upset victory over James Tighe and much, much more. ‘Hardcore’ John Atkins will be your host for The Morecambe Raffle and former British and European heavyweight wrestling champion-turned movie star ‘Tiger’ Joe Robinson will be the special guest Draw Master. Look out over the coming days on the website of Morecambe regional promoters www.wrestlingx.com for some further news regarding ‘Tiger’ Joe Robinson and wrestling’s answer to the National Lottery.

So the final card for Morecambe is as follows:

FWA British Heavyweight Champion ‘The Anarchist’ Doug Williams v Alex Shane’s mystery hitman

James Tighe v Colt Cabana

‘The King of Old School’ Steve Corino v FWA All-England Champion ‘The South City Thriller’ Hade Vansen

Jack Xavier v Alex Shane Security member Martin Stone

‘The Shining Light’ Stevie Knight and ‘The Specialist’ Mark Sloan v Dirk Feelgood and Dangerous Damon Leigh

Ross Jordan v Alex Shane Security member Leroy Kincade
