UK Scene #137

Hey everyone! It’s Goldy back with you this week, all fully recovered health wise and rested up after a lovely relaxing Bank Holiday weekend in the capital. It’s taken me an age to catch up with all the latest goings on in the UK wrestling world this week as we head into September with a very full weekend of shows ahead of us to look forwards to. With BCW in Scotland, Hammerlock in Wales and FWA, FCW, WAR, UWA, MPW, amongst others in the UK putting on events, there’s never been a better time to get yourself down to a show near you!

As you’ve probably guessed from the introduction I have so much to talk about so where to begin? Well with so much news coming out of the FWA regarding their ‘Hotwired‘ weekend, we’ll start there.

Unfortunately, Brian ‘Spank’ Kendrick has pulled out of this weekend due to personal reasons, he will no longer be fulfilling his obligations with both FWA and BCW. This is a blow to the companies mentioned and FWA have given everyone the opportunity for a full refund if fans had already brought tickets on the basis of seeing Spanky. Now hopefully fans won’t be taking up this offer as FWA still have a fabulous looking card for both their shows this weekend in both sunny Morecambe and Broxbourne. Here is the full cards for both shows:

Morecambe – Saturday, 4th September

  • The Anarchist’ Doug Williams v Alex Shane’s mystery hitman
  • James Tighe v Colt Cabana
  • The King of Old School’ Steve Corino v FWA All-England Champion ‘The South City Thriller’ Hade Vansen
  • Jack Xavier v Alex Shane Security member Martin Stone
  • The Shining Light’ Stevie Knight and ‘The Specialist’ Mark Sloan v Dirk Feelgood and Dangerous Damon Leigh
  • Ross Jordan v Alex Shane Security member Leroy Kincade.

Broxbourne – Sunday, 5th September

  • The Showstealer’ Alex Shane v ‘The King of Old School’ Steve Corino
  • Colt Cabana v Mark ‘Five Star’ Belton
  • Johnny Kidd v Steve Grey (World of Sport Guest Match)
  • Simmons v ‘The Specialist’ Mark Sloan
  • Special guest appearance by heavyweight boxer – the man who beat Mike Tyson, ‘The Legend Killer’ Danny Williams
  • FWA All-England Champion ‘The South City Thrilla’ Hade Vansen, Stixx and Martin Stone v Jack Xavier, Aviv Mayaan and Ross Jordan
  • The Hardcore Icon’ Paul Travell v Raj Ghosh
  • Dark Match – competitors to be announced on the night.

I’m sure you’ll agree me with me that you probably won’t see a better looking card all year. With Colt Cabana (who I want to touch more on later in this column) and Steve Corino in the house as well as boxer and celebrity Danny Williams on hand plus the usual FWA athletes it’s going to be an awesome weekend! Ticket details are as follows:

Ticket prices are £35 for Gold ringside, £25 for silver and other tickets are available for £20, £15 and £10. Gold and Silver ticket holders and Fan Club members (Fan Club members can bring one guest each) will be allowed into the arena early (at 5.40pm for a 5.45pm start) to see a special bonus Dark Match at FWA Hotwired. The doors proper will then open at 6pm and the main show will commence at 6.30pm. Fans are advised to book their tickets for Hotwired in advance after FWA Vendetta was sold out and standing room only. The box office number for Hotwired is 01992 441946.

Tickets are also on sale for FWA Live in Morecambe at the Dome on Saturday September 4, priced at £15 front row ringside (Sold Out), £9 for adults, £7 for ages 16 and under and £28 for a family ticket. Doors are at 7pm and bell time is 7.30pm. The box office number is 01524 582803.

Stephen Ashfield has a preview up for Hotwired, click here to have a read.

As Saracen touched on last week and I myself want to mention, everyone’s favourite highflier SpUd has now been given a spot on the FWA card, not in the dark match as first announced. This is a wonderful opportunity for Spud and knowing what he can do in a ring I’m sure he will go on to fully impress the FWA faithful as he impresses the rest of us fans for various federations all around the country on a weekly basis! Good luck Spud.

Before I finish up with my FWA news, a quick reminder that FWA TV has been moved to Friday nights now, starting at 9pm on The Wrestling Channel (Sky Digital channel 427). I’m pretty sure this is to avoid a clash with WWE’s RAW which moved to Thursday nights. The episode will be repeated on Saturdays at 2pm, Sundays at 9am, Tuesdays at 8pm and Thursdays at 8pm.

BCW have brought in Joe E Legend to fill the gap left by Spanky! Joe a former WWE, WWA and TNA worker is an excellent ‘replacement’ for Spanky and is one of my favourite heels in the business today. I’ve been lucky enough to watch Joe a couple of times for All Star Promotions and it’s fair to say he stole the show on each occasion. The details for the BCW show, also featuring some of your favourite FWA stars including Colt Cabana, Jonny Storm and Alex Shane, is as follows:

September 3 – BCW at the Grand Hall, Palace Theatre, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.Tickets and more information available by calling 01563 554900.

FCW are on a role at the moment, at their last show in Baggeridge they made the announcement that they have secured the services of both Colt Cabana and Super Dragon for their next Baggeridge show! Cabana will hopefully be working a fair few dates for FCW, which is excellent news for us fans in the Midlands! What with D’Lo Brown also appearing for FCW in November we really are being spoiled!

Whilst on the subject of Colt Cobana he will also be appearing for All Star Promotions Butlins events from next week and throughout September. All good news for our UK shows as I know I’ve mentioned before but I really do love Colts style, in and out of the squared circle!

Super Dragon will also be wrestling for IPW’s debut show. IPW have now announced a venue for this very show, which is Orpington Halls, in Orpington, Kent and takes place on September 25th. IPW seem to have a decent roster which includes many of your favourite UK wrestlers, I’ll keep you informed on this promotion as soon as I have more information regarding tickets and matches etc.

Keeping with FCW though they have a show tonight, the 3rd of September, at the Collingwood Centre in Great Barr, Birmingham. This is the card so far:

  • “Tomcat” Kevin O’Neil vs Dragon Phoenix vs A-Star Athlete
  • Handicap Match – Devil’s Advocate vs Laken Xander
  • Marc Hogan vs The Bouncer
  • The British Connection vs Spud/Morales
  • The Mailman & Ashton Brown w/Athena Gold vs. Van Wicked & Exodus
  • FCW Title Match – “The Sensation Of The Nation” Rob Hunter vs Jack Storm.

This is a very good card and for just a fiver a ticket you can’t go wrong.

Now something of a breaking story for you! FCW and WAR are to hold a joint show, cleverly entitled FCWAR!! I’ll be bringing you more details of this event nearer the time but it will be held on October the 23rd at the Stockingford Allotment Association, in Nuneaton, which is handily between both WAR and FCW’s usual venues!

Speaking of WAR, they’re holding there biggest event of this year entitled ‘Anarchy’ tonight at Lawrence Sheriff School, Clifton Road, Rugby. I’m hoping to be at this show now I know that the trains are all up and running again on this line! Which must be a huge relief for the WAR boys!

The doors open at 7:00pm for a 7:30pm start with tickets costing just £5 for adults and £3.50 for the under 15’s. Matches include:

  • SpUd defending his newly won WAR Title against The Judge.
  • The WAR debut of one of the best BIG men working today – The Great British Hero GBH!
  • A very special RIOT match: for the first time ever in the U.K see six of the best wrestlers in the Midlands battling it out, including The Spindoctor, FCW Champion Rob Hunter and Jack Storm, in a no-holds-barred elimination match
  • Plus much more including the 7′ tall Colossus, former convict Felony and the hottest new tag team in the U.K – The Murderers!! as well as an FCW match involving Laken Zander!

Please visit WARUK.co.uk for further details.

Now onto WAW! WAW are due to celebrate their 10th anniversary! Next week they have a show called “The War of 2004” at The Talk in Norwich on Saturday, September 11th. It’s a huge achievement to last ten years in any business but especially the wrestling business. In this day and age we see so many new federations start out with huge expectations only to run a couple of shows and fold pretty quickly afterwards, so with that in mind I’d like to congratulate WAW for their services to British wrestling with their quality shows and excellent workers. That is something they can be very proud of. This is the card for next week’s show thus far:

  • The Superflys v “The Showstealer” Alex Shane & Aviv Mayaan.
  • The Zebra Kid v Paul Tyrell.
  • Sweet Saraya v Klondyke Kate.
  • “Superstar” Mal Sanders v Steve Grey.
  • “The Wonderkid” Jonny Storm v Justin Starr.
  • Bash V The Kraft
  • Steve Morocco will face Britain’s youngest professional wrestler, Zak Zodiac.

Tickets for the show can be reserved by telephoning either 01603474693 or 07979302203.

wZw had a very busy weekend putting on three shows no less over the Bank Holiday. Lucky fans were treated to the debut of wZw’s eight foot video screen, which gave the wrestlers full entrance video’s and projected the nights matches onto the screen via our ring side camera. This took the show to whole new level increasing entertainment value.

wZw are really pulling in the crowds and putting on some excellent shows with fans who attend raving about and looking forwards to their return visit. I still haven’t managed to get down to a wZw show but this is something I hope to remedy before the end of this year. The results for these shows and all the rest of last weeks events check our weekly TWO newsletter. (cheap plug!)

Whilst on the subject of wZw, they have secured the services of Spinner McKenzie who will be coming down to wZw’s Nu Breed Wrestling Academy on Sunday 26th September to take a training session and seminar. Spinner who has done everything involved in the UK wrestling scene will be there to offer assistance to any type of trainee that comes along. If you are a manager, masked man, traditional wrestler, or even a comedy wrestler Spinner has worked in that capacity and more. One not to be missed!

If you wish to book a place for the seminar and session then please email [gary@nubreed.co.uk], this is open to all persons from any promotion, training school, or even if you just want to make the first step into the ring. As always this session is limited to 30 people.

Venue: Ray Gray Community Centre, Stotts Rd, Walker, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Date & Times: Sunday 26th September – 11am – 6.00pm
Price: £10.00 16yrs + £8.00 15yrs and under.

Hammerlock also have a show this weekend. This is going to be in Cardiff, Wales at the The Cathay’s Community Centre. I don’t have many card details except for this match:

  • Tag Challenge: Jon Ryan &?? V’s Tank & KFK a Rumble and Superfight.

For advance tickets sales please call the Box office on 07729-045845. Hammerlock have plenty of upcoming shows for the autumn which I will be adding to the events calendar and which are also up on the 101 News board.

That’s everything for this week. The main man Adam Sibley should be back from next week!
