FWA News Update

THE ZEBRA KID v CHRIS HERO ANNOUNCED!
FWA management have responded to The Zebra Kid ‘s request to face “the toughest opponent available” at New Frontiers on Saturday February 26. They have matched him against the FWA debutant from America, Chris Hero, in what should be an absorbing match-up between two experts in the hard-hitting ‘strong style’ of professional wrestling.

The Zebra Kid v Chris Hero is added to a card that already includes the first FWA British Heavyweight Title defence in the FWA by ‘The Showstealer’ Alex Shane against the number one contender ‘The Wonderkid’ Jonny Storm, FWA All-England Champion ‘The South City Thrilla’ Hade Vansen defending against his number one contender Spud and the first ever Open Door Invitational. And there’s more to come….

TWO TAG MATCHES SET FOR NEW FRONTIERS

Also just signed for the show at Broxbourne Civic Hall on February 26 is what should be a heated tag team match pitting James Tighe and Mark ‘Five Star’ Belton against Aviv Maayan and Ross Jordan.

If you recall from a previous news update, Tighe had demanded another shot at Aviv after failing in his quest to make the youngster tap out at Gold Rush. But FWA management wanted to give the fans something slightly different to a straight rematch and instead decided to give both competitors the opportunity to pick a partner for a tag team encounter. Tighe, unsurprisingly, chose his partner-in-crime Mark Belton while Aviv plumped for a man he has gained tremendous respect for after their recent exchanges at British Uprising and Gold Rush, ‘The Little Dragon’ Ross Jordan.

Despite the addition of tag team partners to this match, Tighe has remained steadfast in his un-nervingly obsessive determination to make Aviv Maayan tap out at New Frontiers. We shall see if he makes good on his threat.

Also at New Frontiers, FWA Tag Team Champions The Duke of Danger and Simmons will be in non-title action.

This came about after Hampton Court approached FWA management this week, asking for a ‘tune-up match’ to ease Simmons back into in-ring competition following his recent health problems. FWA matchmakers have agreed that Simmons should be placed in a ‘low-risk’ environment at Broxbourne so are currently considering suitable opponents for the blue-blooded duo. It is thought they will look outside the main FWA roster for opponents, in keeping with the new Open Door Policy.

YOUNGSTERS CLIMB THROUGH THE OPEN DOOR

The first batch of entries into the first ever FWA Open Door Invitational have been received and already two non-FWA wrestlers have been selected to participate in this brand new concept.

The first of these is ‘Superstar’ Tony Sefton. This confident performer has been making waves for various promotions up and down the country. Equally at home in the air and on the mat, the Superstar clearly thinks a lot of himself. But at the FWA Open Door Invitational, it will be up to the fans to make or break Tony Sefton’s FWA career.

The second to receive a chance of a lifetime at New Frontiers will be Carbon. A regular for north-east promotion WZW, this muscular and serious competitor is well-known for his combination of power and technical skills. But will they be enough to impress the audience at the Broxbourne Civic Hall on February 26?

FWA officials are currently scouring videotapes from several other promising young wrestlers who compete for other UK promotions, who have already replied to our advertisement in a recent news update and applied to be part of the Open Door Invitational.

Remember – the FWA Open Door Invitational works as follows: On the night of New Frontiers, all the non-FWA talent will come down to the ring and the FWA fans – through volume of cheers – will get to choose which two of them compete in an actual wrestling match. The remaining wrestlers will go home. An independent adjudicator will be assigned to determine which two wrestlers receive the loudest ovations from the Broxbourne crowd. We at www.frontierwrestling.com understand that this independent adjudicator/host for the FWA Open Door Invitational has been selected and will be revealed on the night of New Frontiers.

This Open Door Invitational will be a great chance for two young UK talents to impress FWA scouts and also a truly interactive experience for FWA fans, who can select for themselves which two exciting up-and-comers they would like to see compete in an FWA ring.

The FWA is still inviting applications for the FWA Open Door Invitational. So if you are a UK wrestler, with four years of professional wrestling experience or less, and you would like to be considered for the FWA Open Door Invitational on February 26 at Broxbourne Civic Hall, then please send an e-mail entitled ‘FWA Open Door Invitational’ to info@frontierwrestling.com stating your name, your age and the promotions you have worked for. The closing date for applications is Friday February 18.

Of course, as soon as we at www.frontierwrestling.com get wind of any more names of entrants for the FWA Open Door Invitational, we will announce them in a news update.

STEVIE LYNN TO GET HIS CHANCE
One up-and-comer whose recent performances have been so impressive that he has been bypassed for the FWA Open Door Invitational, and instead given a direct opportunity to make his full debut on a main FWA show at New Frontiers, is Stevie Lynn.

The high-flying Lynn caught the eye of watching FWA scouts for his contribution to a six-man tag team dark match at British Uprising 3 and has continued to show his in-ring prowess since then for his home promotion WZW and further afield.

As of yet, Stevie Lynn’s opponent for New Frontiers has not yet been announced but we understand that several regular members of the FWA roster have put their names forward as possible adversaries, so eager are they to give the youngster a baptism of fire. FWA management are currently considering their options.

STARSEARCH REAPS REWARDS

The FWA would like to publicly thank everyone who attended the recent Starsearch at the Red Rose Comedy Club in Finsbury Park, North London.

The standard of auditions was extremely high for the most part, and the panel of judges were extremely impressed with many of the candidates.

Already, one Starsearch find has been appointed as the new FWA ring announcer. Chris Brosnahan impressed both at the Starsearch and during a try-out as MC for this past weekend’s FWA-affiliated Future-Shock Wrestling event in Manchester. Congratulations to Chris who will make his main show debut as ring announcer at New Frontiers, replacing ‘ Hardcore’ John Atkins who will now move across to become part of the full-time commentary team both on FWA TV and DVD releases.

Several of the other Starsearch auditionees will also be present at New Frontiers in backstage roles, having suitably impressed the panel with their enthusiasm and skills, and others are expected to be given opportunities in the future.

Starsearch also uncovered several potential FWA referees and therefore a training seminar is being planned to take place within the next two months so these possible future ‘men in the middle’ can learn the ropes.
