UK Scene #156

Welcome one and all to a very belated edition of the UK Scene. After a few days holidaying in Scotland I am now back reinvigorated and ready to go. So this week I am going to talk about the expansion of the FWA, news coming out of the big TWC show, an ingenious project that our very own Saracen let me know about and much more, so please do forgive me for my lateness and enjoy…

Welcome one and all to a very belated edition of the UK Scene. After a few days holidaying in Scotland I am now back reinvigorated and ready to go. So this week I am going to talk about the expansion of the FWA, news coming out of the big TWC show, an ingenious project that our very own Saracen let me know about and much more, so please do forgive me for my lateness and enjoy.

So it’s with the FWA we start this week and their continuing strides towards world domination. For years now the FWA academy in Portsmouth has been seen as the premier training facility in the UK. Well now it has a group of sister sites as FWA take over training facilities around the UK and Ireland. The FWA have taken over the former IWW training facility, The Future-Shock wrestling school and is setting up new facilities in Croydon and Hull. So now all you people that once complained about not being able to get down to Portsmouth there is something much closer to your doorstep.

Now yes the FWA do need to get out and do more shows but this is a very big step in the right direction as they hopefully develop pockets of talent around the UK and Ireland. In line with these openings the FWA will be starting its very own training syllabus which will be taught at all FWA schools as standard. So hopefully we will see lots of new stars coming through FWA’s open doors very soon.

Now as you may or may not be aware there is a new show coming to ITV this year called Celebrity Wrestling where celebrities will battle each week to become the best wrestler. As long as a host of recognizable celebrity names and wrestling superstars Alex Shane has secured himself a spot as an advisor on the show. So hopefully Alex will be able to work his charm and start getting some dialogue open about getting British wrestling back on mainstream TV. At the very least though the FWA have said this week that they are in the midst of planning their biggest show to date which could be hopefully off the back of this new ITV show.

The Wrestling Channel has this week added Alex Shane and Bill Apter to the ever growing list of talent scheduled to appear at International Showdown. They also announced match number 2 for the big card which will see Christopher Daniels square off against AJ Styles. So with March 19th drawing ever closer will this be the end of the new names announced or is there yet more to come I wonder? Just hopefully with the WWE shows that went on sale this week being so popular they may be able to sell some more tickets off the back of that.

Now after giving out a plea for information regarding the current state of EWW the UK Pitbulls have been in touch. They inform me that EWW is still very alive and their next big show will be on April the 8th in Witney. They will both be appearing on the card which has the main event of Frankie Capone vs. The Dominator.

It’s been another busy week for our Brits abroad over the last 7 days. Jonny Storm competed for ICW in Italy whilst Robbie Brookside was in Norway for NWF. This was all capped off though by Doug Williams who has yet more title success on international soil this time for NOAH. Well done guys keep it up.

Now we have all heard of the websites extreme bookings and indy bookings where US promoters can book a multitude of US stars from, well now we have our very own UK version (thanks for the tip off Saracen.) Yes that’s right there is a one stop shop to book UK workers from www.ukworkers.net. What’s even better is that this isn’t even an agency so you have no middle man to deal with as every wrestler on the site has their direct contact information so it couldn’t be simpler.

Now I have been behind an idea like this for some time as I think to help keep and track and organize the UK Scene better it would be good to get everyone’s details on a central database. Ok not every wrestler is listed yet at UKworkers but hopefully in time as this site gets more attention more and more names will add themselves to the site. So if you a UK worker and want some publicity be sure to contact the website or if you are putting on a wrestling event in the UK what a good place to start to assemble your card.

CSF and Rebel Pro Wrestling have announced their first dates for 2005 this week seeing them both in to another year of existence. CSF Outrage 2005 will be taking place in Melksham with a card including a rare appearance from Justin Richards. Rebel Pro Wrestling will kick start the year in Sheffield with Johnny Kid.

And finally another new link up has been announced in the UK Scene this week as Livewire Wrestling team up with RBW for a night of wrestling in Peterborough. The card is looking good with Tex benedict vs. Johnny Kidd as one of the main attractions. Andy Simmonz will also be on the card so well worth a look.

Once again sorry for the tardiness this week but I promise you normal business will be resumed next week.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
