Welcome one and all back to an on time edition of the UK Scene. So as things to return to normal there is lots to talk about this week. We have a new promotion with a very innovative name, more updates on IWW’s biggest show to date and news on one of NWA-UK’s first cross-promotion card. So sit back relax and enjoy normal service.

This week I am going to start by talking about NWA-UK or Hammerlock as some people know them. This promotion has been the backbone of the UK Scene for some time now, a promotion steeped in tradition. This promotion though has done it’s best to stay away from the Internet and not to come in to contact with any other promotion. Many say this was due to the FWA feud which started when a host of wrestlers left their training sessions to go and form the FWA some of the names included were Alex Shane, Jodie Fleisch and Dean Ayass.

NWA-UK have a strong base of fans around the Kent area but they have never tired to expand on this and seem to be content with what they have by every year putting on shows in the same venues, not that there is anything wrong with that. With many UK stars working for various promotions on a nightly basis NWA-UK have something different as many of their stars only work for Hammerlock or its affiliates which has set themselves apart from other promotions.

There has been a change in Hammerlock’s approach though over the last few years as they opened training schools in Ireland and Wales and then having a hand in setting up their own affiliate promotions like MPW. The latest news though is still a shock well at least to me to see them forming up with another sleepy hollow promotion IWF and producing a cross-promotion show. So far only Johnny Moss has been announced for team NWA-UK but with a host of IWF stars already signed up to make a name for themselves on February the 5th at the Consett Civic Hall.

IWW are doing their best to rival the big TWC show on the big March weekend (19th – 20th). It has been a while since IWW held it’s last big event but this big supershow looks set to even put those huge events in the dark. IWW have lined up a host of stars for their show some that are confirmed for the TWC Supershow in Coventry and some that aren’t so it means if you’re a true wrestling fan you can have an ultimate weekend.

Stars that aren’t confirmed for TWC which IWW have landed include Joe E.Legend, M-Dogg 20 and Vid Vain this is on top of Christopher Daniels, AJ Styles, Sonjay Dutt and Bill Apter. In my personal opinion this is going to make it the biggest weekend I am ever going to report on and IWW now have even a bigger buzz than their highly anticipated debut shows.

TWC have this week released further news on their big show “International Showdown” The first match which will see our UK boys compete against the US Stars has been announced which will see Spud and Jonny Storm competing in a fatal four way with Sonjay Dutt and Petey Williams. This is added to the already impressive card which will see AJ Style going against Christopher Daniels and CM Punk continuing his RoH rivalry with Samoa Joe.

A promotion has now formed in the UK which has got my favourite name ever. SBW which is short for Sliced Bread Wrestling have an event in Northampton this weekend (29/01) at the St. James Working Mens Club. The card includes Baxter Burridge and a main event which sees Jonny Storm squaring off against Rob Hunter so very worth the watch.

The first ever bus trip to a FCW event is happening this March. After successful bus trips arranged to FWA and GWF events this is another way of seeing how popular FCW is becoming. Their show on the 25th of March will feature Raven and Chad Collyer alongside your usual FCW favourites. At £20 all in for the ticket and bus trip with pick up points all over Birmingham you can’t go wrong. For more information email: [thesuplex1@gmail.com].

It looks like there is going to be a huge international encounter at IPW:UK’s next event after a successful “Best of British 1” event that was watched by over 200 people. The next event “Return of the Dragon” on March 20th will see the big winners from “Best of British 1” Stevie Douglas and Aviv Maayan squaring off against each other in a tag team match. The fun bit being they will both have an international superstar as their tag partner. Stevie Douglas has already announced he will be tagging with Super Dragon but who will Aviv get as his partner the only way to know is to keep your eyes open as the news breaks on the Internet.

Chingford will be playing host to a huge RBW event on February 5th which will be headlined by two incredible encounters. Jonny Storm and Jorge Costano will be going at it for the Middleweight title and Tex Benedict will be going one on one with Neil Faith who moved from England to Canada to train at the legendary Hart Dungeon. So be sure to be in Chingford for that one.

To finish off this week if you are going to an up and coming FWA event, rules regarding the FWA heavyweight championship have changed. The best out of three rule has been taken out so all heavyweight title matches will now be fought one fall to a finish. This isn’t all though as now if the FWA heavyweight champion is disqualified during a title defense he loses his title. So now that you are all brought up to sleep I can sleep a happy man.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
