Press Release

International American Rules and British Style Professional Wrestling

Some of the country’s finest athletes are in their final days of intense training before they make their way from all around the country to Loughborough this Saturday (19 February 2005) to take part in first round matches to crown the new British Heavyweight Wrestling Champion.

Loughborough was chosen as the venue due its international sporting
reputation and great facilities. Wrestling also has a considerable
history in Loughborough; in 1971 Gwynn Davies won his second British
Heavyweight Wrestling Championship there when he defeated Albert Wall.

The preliminary line up for the tournament includes ‘The Jaggernaught’
Jag Sing Sidhu (Southall, West London) facing ‘Full Contact’ Chris
Botherway (Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire), Adam Thorn (Nottingham)
squaring off against Jamie James (Leicester), Mr. E (unknown) taking
on Simon Cann (Loughborough) and the United Kingdom Wrestling Champion Steve Stryka (Lemmington Spar) against the British Junior Heavyweight Champion Kyd Flash (unknown).

The semi finals and final shall be held in March and April
respectively.

Also topping the card is an international showcase when the masked
foreign campaigner El Ligero (Los Sanchos, Mexico) takes on Scotty
Hexx (Sheffield) in a Mexican V England contest.

The venue for this bill is the Charnwood Social Club, Shelthorpe
Avenue, Loughborough. Doors open at 7pm and the first match commences at 7.30pm. Tickets are £3.00 for Children, OAP and NUS Card Holders and £5.00 for Adults. More information is online at
