If you have clicked this link, you are clearly interested in the world of Wrestling Video Games, and who can blame you, they are rather good. Well, unless you talk to a cynic like ex-Wrestling 101 head Craig “Russ” Russell. Stupid cynics. Anyway, if you have been out of the video game loop for the past month, I’m here to lasso you back in and bring you forcibly back into the loop.

This month we’ll be looking at WWE News exclusively because I have a lot to update about due to my slacking last month

WWE News

Day of Reckoning

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the WWE Video Games season is rapidly approaching, in fact, we are mere days away from the Gamecube Release, Day of Reckoning 2, because when you have a working formula you stick with it. Gamecube fans are very excited over this game, and who can blame them, I finally got around to purchasing a Gamecube about two months ago and got Day of Reckoning, and I have to admit, in comparison to the Wrestlemania series it really has come leaps and bounds and found its own niche if you will. The US Release date of Day of Reckoning 2 is the 29th of August, which is this coming Monday. With that in mind, I think I should give you fine folks the roster you can expect when purchasing this game:

  • Randy Orton
  • William Regal
  • Hurricane
  • Muhammad Hassan
  • Kurt Angle
  • John Cena
  • Undertaker
  • JBL
  • Carlito Caribbean Cool
  • Booker T
  • Rey Mysterio
  • Rob van Dam
  • Eddie Guerrero
  • Big Show
  • Heidenreich
  • Triple H
  • Batista
  • Chris Jericho
  • Christian
  • Edge
  • Chris Benoit
  • Shawn Michaels
  • Shelton Benjamin
  • Eugene
  • Kane
  • Tajiri
  • Ric Flair
  • Rene Dupree
  • Kenzo Suzuki
  • Chavo Guerrero
  • Orlando Jordan
  • Trish Stratus
  • Stacy Kiebler
  • Torrie Wilson
  • Gene Snitsky
  • Maven
  • Chris Masters
  • Christy Hemme

As you can see, the roster is slightly out of date, but it’s always the case for WWE games, the WWE really like to change their roster a lot in the lead-up to video games, mass firings, new hirings and what have you. Sometimes you honestly think it’s part of a master plan to get us to buy their next video game. It probably is to be honest. I must note I am pleased to see Hassan and Daivari are still on the roster because I’ll be honest I was a big fan of both men. Let us just keep our fingers crossed that Yukes has a good sense of humour and has included the Magic Carpet Ride. Expect a full review of Day of Reckoning 2 by a member of the Wrestling101 crew, possibly myself expenses willing, at some point next month.

Smackdown vs. Raw 2006

So the biggest brand name in Wrestling Video Games finally got its real title during my hiding from work in July, and now the first pictures, videos and information is surfacing, and I have to say, I’m excited. We’ve got the inclusion of a stamina system, something I was a big fan of in the Firepro series and hope it’s put to good use. For those of you unfamiliar with the system, basically what happens is the more effort a move would take to pull off in real life, the more stamina it will take out, the more stamina you use the less energy you have to pull off move in the match, you have to take breaks during matches to catch and breath and try and gain stamina again. Now if this is pulled off in the exact same manner for Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 as it was in Firepro, I’m already excited due to that one feature.

On top of that, IGN.com has brought out the final confirmed roster, although Legends have yet to named (the number being thrown about just now is ten) and once again, who shows up? Hassan and Daivari, honestly I’ve never been excited about an out-of-date roster, and yet, now I am. However, apart from a few misses and a few curious inclusions (I’M LOOKING AT YOU MICHELLE MCCOOL) the roster looks to be making up for the incredibly lacking roster that was featured last year. Bad news for tag team fans however, don’t expect MNM, featuring the legendary JOHNNY NITRO to feature in this game, as going by IGN’s confirmed roster, they ain’t there.

Speaking of IGN, if you’re curious how you’re favourite wrestler’s entrance will look in the video game, head over to IGN.com as they’ve begun their yearly countdown leading up to the release of Smackdown vs. Raw 2006, and every day, new videos on a featured wrestler, including entrance will be shown. Sadly, I’m only here monthly, so it’s best to try and stay in the loop without me. Expect a review for Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 when it comes out.

Bits and Bobs

If you head over to FireProClub.com you can see the latest trailer for the upcoming Fire Pro Returns game for PS2. Sadly as said before, it is a Japanese-only release so start brushing up on your Japanese now so you can enjoy the game later.

HUGE MAJOR TNA VIDEO GAME NEWS…

Just kidding.

Anyway, till next time, I’ve been Colin Gear and I’m actually excited for this year’s Video Games releases.
